Awww I'm Nigerian and I love our weddings but I'm not a big fan of big weddings lol. My wedding is probably going to be super super low-key, without all the fanfare. Plus, I don't wanna spend a lot of money on a big wedding 😂.
If you come from a rich family, you can't avoid a big 9ja wedding. If you come from a large family, you can't avoid a big 9ja wedding. In 9ja weddings are not for the couple, so you have no say in the matter. @@muadline5989 the only way to achieve low key wedding as a nigerian is probably to wed on mars. Nigerians don't require invitation cards and seeing the bride is some kind of a rush for most people 🤣🤣🤣

I’m African American. I took a DNA test and it revealed that I’m mostly Nigerian. I’d love to embrace the culture I never knew and have a traditional wedding. This wedding was absolutely beautiful and very informative!
Listen you can't just call yourself Nigerian because you saw in a DNA test because of your ancestors, Nigerians are very tribalistic and unless you are a direct descendant like from your great grandparents or grandparents you are very much American take pride in that. I'm tired of seeing black Americans want to lay claim to a culture that they are very far removed from it is insulting to the people. You don't see white Americans stress over their European roots so why stress over your African roots? Enjoy being American and the culture blacks have created over there.
author nikkih How is it her fault her ancestors were slaves? Sorry that she wants to learn where she came from...you’re acting like Nigerians aren’t whitewashing themselves anyways
author nikkih I understand your point of view. Thanks for your comment, but how can I call myself “African” American and not embrace the African part? I’ll never do anything without educating myself. I am Nigerian by blood. I’m connecting with my roots. Therefore, I am still African American. I’m just embracing the African part.
@@user-mh2gb2mo1m well slave trade has the word trade in it so who do you think sold her ancestors? Whites or blacks? And I'm pretty sure her ancestors were among the people that fought alongside Martin Luther King Jr for their rights in America! America oh not Nigeria! So please enjoy your American culture it is not a bad thing to enjoy the freedom your ancestors fought for you all earned it and like I said unless you are a direct descendant you will never be accepted as an African that is just the honest truth our people are very tribalistic.

You can start from your lineage. The marriage rites is very simple. You can start from your family and elders coming together to instill this practice and dowry for your young women in your family. As for African clothes, thank God you can get that in your country too. I would do the same if I were you because I'm first African. Just look at some Nigerian and Ghanaian weddings to see how it's done and what part of the culture you want to infuse into yours. It will work. Shalom!

I wish i wasn’t stripped of my heritage because I’d love to have a wedding like this! I used to say that I only wanted to marry an African man just to experience this type of union with so many family and friends.
Or try learning about west African countries, odds are you come from many of those places. You have your pick of the culture. It’s unfortunate that African Americans were stripped of their African heritage, but the culture that arose from it is truly something to be proud of. Everyone copied black culture, even in Africa, black culture is everywhere. Black Americans truly are a special group of people. I have never seen another culture have such a global impact the way black culture does.😊😊

That's our culture in Africa but especially in Nigeria lol. There's also a tradition where the husband hides and the bride is holding a marriage wine and she has to find him in the crowd. When she does, she kneels in front of him and serves him the cup. When he drinks it it kind of shows he accepts her.

You don’t need an invitation to a Nigerian Wedding...if you show up; you’re family! Join the party!
I'm Guinean and Malian, but sending love to all y'all Nigerians out there👑
Your culture is absolutely beautiful . Lots of ❤️

Adhi thank you
Let us know each other!
It's a union of two families (including but not limited to the families' friends, neighbors, coworkers etc, that's just how we roll in 9ja regardless if the ethnic group. We are rich in people, we never lack people.
@@muadline5989 the only way to achieve low key wedding as a nigerian is probably to wed on mars. Nigerians don't require invitation cards and seeing the bride is some kind of a rush for most people 🤣🤣🤣
@@limelyte5390 lmaooo too true! But my family is pretty low key for Nigerians lol. And I'm very stubborn when it comes to getting what I want. I can compromise but ultimately it's my wedding...I'd like to save money for better things. A long marriage is more important than a big wedding ( in my opinion) but to each their own.
Me too
Who loves The Wedding Party series???

I’m Nigerian and Yoruba as well and I’m soooo looking forward to having a traditional Nigerian wedding
This was so beautiful. The inclusiveness of the families is incredible. Beyond all of that her dress is the most beautiful wedding dress. I’m not girlie by any means, but I’d wear her whole wedding look. She looked absolutely stunning and regal.
Thank you for this beautiful depiction of Yoruba weddings.
Beautiful as always! Ps: The fabric is "Aso oke" not Ashoke. If you are going this mile to show off beautiful cultures, it's also good to get the proper spelling/names of things so people learn the right things.
It's the British accent that spoilt it
I was thinking the same as well. Especially with the hyphen on the é that definitely changed the whole pronunciation and spelling of the word
@@victoriaemmanuel3105 very true. That sign on the e is so off.
Her parents look so young and good looking. Good genes
I am a proud Nigerian 🇳🇬... And I love when my country is represented.... I love this... Thanks @Refinery29
So telling that this rich African history is told with a British accent. History is complicated and messy, but strangely beautiful.
What is very interesting is that there are Nigerians who have never been to the UK before but they have a British accent.

As an Nigerian from the Yoruba tribe living in America, this wedding really does represent the Nigerian culture in the colors for each side of the family to making sure everyone enjoys the food and is filled #NIGERIA 🇳🇬
Please do a Sudanese wedding!😍
Hanin Hyder yes! That would be amazing
I'm Nigerian and I've always felt like I would never, ever do a traditional wedding because I'm not interested in that pomp and paegantry, but now I'm rethinking that idea

This made me tear up. I love how much it means to the whole family. The beautiful shots of the bride and her mother were priceless ❤
+leahcontreras It was so beautiful!
Imagine! That is the baby she brought home from the hospital not so long ago!
If Disney will have a movie inspired from an African princess this woman would have been the muse...what a beautiful gown, makeup , everything looks so beautiful!
As an African American I wish that I could find out my culture😔
Aww. I hope you do. I'm hausa and igbo. Which means northern Arabic Nigerian cultures and eastern Nigerian cultures. Gl
@@annalovelove3269 I'm igbo as well, but Igbo people are in the southeast.
If you want find out your ancestry you can take a DNA test (African Ancestry), and they give you the tribe you descended from.
I think this is the most beautiful marriage I’ve ever seen. I never wished I knew where I was from more.
As a Nigerian with both Yoruba and Uhrobo heritage.... I can say yes there are difference in our traditional marriages but there are also similarities. The fact the a Yoruba marriage was use to portray our culture shouldn't make anyone mad. it a celebration of love ( with a few different scenes and events) and that's what matters
@Black To Grace If someone is still ignorant enough to think Africa is a country in 2019 there no fixing to that. And I still stand by my opinion Yoruba or not it's still Nigerian, it's about love so picking offence is the problem
right. I'm igbo and it's not that deep
I live In Iceland Reykjavik raised here but am Kenyan and my African heritage has no boundary..I feel warmth watching anything from Africa, food, music,...thanks for uploading this...Blessings guys..🇮🇸🇰🇪
@@Correctgistlover that was unnecessarily mean
author nikkih I understand your point of view.
Ugh Yoruba women are so beautiful 😫😍
This is a traditional Yoruba wedding, different tribes have their own traditions ✨ love seeing my culture being represented
Proudly Nigerian and proudly Yoruba, I'd never wish to be of another nationality.
This really reminds me of our big fat Punjabi weddings... They are very similar in ideology to this but just different customs. I loved this and would definitely want to see one in person ❤️
My stepdads mom (She is Jamaican) remarried into a Nigerian family and they had a Yoruba wedding. It was by far the coolest wedding I had ever seen (I am Jamaican, ans for some reason Nigerian and Jamaicans are always competing). It was such a fun time
So truw
I'm a Nigerian teen and I've always looked forward to my weddings (traditional and white wedding)! They look great. IM NOT CRYING BECAUSE OF TRIBAL TRADITION AND BECAUSE IT WAS SO BEAUTIFUL. I'm cutting onions.
What a fascinating culture! We Africans in the diaspora(I’m from Guyana 🇬🇾) have lost 😞 so much!
Shalom!

Beautiful traditional Yoruba wedding 🇳🇬💖
I love the importance Nigerian culture puts in marriage and the sacredness❤️❤️❤️
I wish I still had traditions like this. Unfortunately since Italy became one Nation many (most) of the local traditions were put aside... We only have local languages/dialects
I'm igbo but I love Yoruba culture (sometimes even more than mine) cuz I was born and raised in Lagos, a predominantly Yoruba state.
BEST wedding I've ever been to was an Nigerian wedding. Yall know how to party 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾😍
Geez I love it when people really stick to their culture. This was a lot but it was also beautiful.
Well Nigerians weddings are big lol
It's known as spraying money, but I think it's more like touching/placing. Others spray proper, but it's like Yoruba people have to get close and personal to ensure you received the blessing or something 😂
Such rich culture and beautiful people 😍💗💕💖💗
I wish i wasn’t stripped of my heritage because I’d love to have a wedding like this! I used to say that I only wanted to marry an African man just to experience this type of union with so many family and friends.
Maybe try a DNA heritage test and whichever one you match with more try to learn more about that explore and have your wedding this way if you want!
I have never seen another culture have such a global impact the way black culture does.😊😊
My naija people!! Igbo kwenu!! ✊🏾❤️ beautiful wedding!

Yess I am Nigerian our weddings are the best
I love the outfits, especially the aspect of the bride wearing a veil though its a traditional wedding.
And did you guys see how those gentlemen laid flat on their stomach infront of the bride's parents? Yuroba people are so respectful and i love that.
Am a Cameroonian but i envy this culture 😍
That's our culture in Africa but especially in Nigeria lol. There's also a tradition where the husband hides and the bride is holding a marriage wine and she has to find him in the crowd. When she does, she kneels in front of him and serves him the cup. When he drinks it it kind of shows he accepts her.
*Yoruba not Yuroba
Thank you 🥰🥰
The veil is traditionally part of the Yoruba Bride's costume for the traditional wedding.
I am Somali but I love how Nigerians dress and I can’t wait to wear their cultural dress on my wedding day. 😍
Are you marrying a Nigerian? You do you sis but Somali attire is just as beautiful & vibrant with color!!! Paired with intricate Henna designs and a beat face, you'll make a gorgeous bride. This coming from a Congolese familiar with the African diaspora.
