- His familiar work as a screenwriter goes all the way back to Freejack in 1992. More recently, Reel Steel and The Bourne Legacy. But now he's put on the writer/director hat with the remarkable Nightcrawler, which stars Jake Gyllenhaal as a true creature of darkness, created by business as usual in L.A. Gilroy spoke to David Poland about the film and the soul.

Nightcrawler will always be one of my favourite films of all time. Dan Gilroy is such a good writer, the dialogue in Nightcrawler and Velvet Buzzsaw was unbelievable. I'm looking forward to seeing him and Jake work on something else together
[SPOILERS] It's great that they didn't show the sex scenes. Somehow, not showing, but alluding to it, makes it so much creepier. Especially the latter scenes.
I read that this movie only cost 8 million dollars to make. Holy crap! I t looked more like 80 million. Beautiful work.
Great interview. Gilry is great at expressing his ideas, and Nightcrawler certainly shows as much. It's one of my favorite movies of the year.
You have to interview Riz Ahmed if you haven't already. That kid can act.

and for Gilroy's first directorial debut i cant praise this one enough. really , really excellent work.
Nightcrawler was a great movie. Gyllenhaal played a believable creepy video journalist. The camera work was excellent and reminded me of the movie Collateral, which also showed LA at night.
Does anyone think Gilroy sounds like Zach Braff?
