      +MovieLover Hito lol u serious? what was thrilling about this turd of movie? certainly not the story because it has none. the acting? except a lot of a list actors the movie hast literally nothing to offer.

    • @EagerSnake
      @EagerSnake 9 лет назад

      +degree7 exactly, but people didn't like it, as simple as that. It's a real shame, but I bought the Director's cut edition anyway. I'm really close to complete my collection, and from all of his recent movies, The Counselor was one of the best in my opinion, amazing dialogue, amazing cast. Extremely elegant. I love it. Really mature and real in my opinion.

      That's one of those rare films where I am genuinely completely puzzled by the critics of it. I seriously don't get it at all. Other than being extremely depressing and harrowing I don't understand why people hate that film at all.

    He knows his shit: effects work, cinematography, editing, everything! A complete auteur. Will always, because of Alien and Blade Runner particularly, have this guy in a special spot in my heart. It will be a sad day indeed when the inevitable happen.. I think people like Villeneuve and Nolan owe a great deal to him, like Scott, Lucas etc ows lots to Kubrick.

      I did suffer through it multiple times and it was still the disaster most people claim it is. It had all the elements for it to be a great film but the script was an absolute mess with terrible, half baked, wannabe noir dialogue that makes every actor look and sound stilted. I'm glad you enjoyed it but most people consider it a disaster and I think that's an understatement..

      +dkwookies I respect your opinion of course. Alien is pretty good, but my favourites from Scott would be Blade Runner and The Gladiator. This guy is genius, even though he still thinks a boring mess like The Counsellor was actually good.

    • @EagerSnake
      @EagerSnake 9 лет назад +6

      +Thorfinn The Counsellor was absolutely brilliant. I don't really know why people didn't like it. It was easy to follow, it had some of the best lines of dialogues ever in a movie and the cast was tremendous. But anyway, people can dislike it if they didn't like it.

    The Counselor got some pretty unfair reviews, which amounted nothing more to clickbait. It's by no means up there with his best work, but it's not bad at all. It's almost excessively bleak (and probably the darkest of his entire filmography), but I can think of many worse examples of that, usually by less talented and experienced directors than Mr. Scott. I'm glad to see him carry the flag for it and that he is proud of it despite the harsh reviews.

    • @xsmooth5707
      @xsmooth5707 9 лет назад +12

      +Bryan8329 i think Counselor is one of the most important movie of the decade. Nihilist, Neo-noir, well acted, brilliantly made. Plus it's a McCarthy script, so it's very very interesting!

    • @ejkk9513
      @ejkk9513 9 лет назад

      +pickselartz i love grim movies and i think The Counselor is one of the most mis-guided movies ive seen in years.. it had a great director, at times, great author, amazing cinematography, one of the best casts of recent years buut.. the script was a mess. it had no structure, no story, no nothing just a bunch of b-movie dialogue written by a legendary author who doesnt understand a book and a screenplay are too different mediums. i heard the novelization of the counselor reads great but as a movie its a disaster with no form or function. i was in disbelief how this script got green lit. there is some good ideas in it but needed a REAL scriptwriter to come in and put the pieces together. just my personal opinion but i think alot of people would agree

    What a great guy. Man you guys are critical! He uses VFX for a film like Prometheus because its a different playing field. Its not a laod of clostrophobic sets filled with smoke where a practical effect can look great. Imagine Prometheus (which I think is visually awesome) with all practical effects and how much that would limit things. Technology is evolving and smart people like Ridley Scott know when to use one or the other. Thats what his answer was!
    And to compare different film makers work is always a pointless comparison. Film is so driven by taste. I like Prometheus. Its by no means a perfect or incredible film but I really like it. Others I know really hate it. I love David Fincher but I have friends who really don't like many of his films. Its all taste! Even when it comes to stories.
    Good on you Ridley Scott. Keep making films because you love it! Thats what gives films heart and why The Martian is no doubt going to be awesome!

    As a production sound mixer, come on guys. You gotta step up the game here. You're interviewing one of the great
    and not only are the mics over modulating, you didn't even mix the tracks in post (leaving Ridley's mic on the left, interviewers on the right). The picture is worth crap when the CONTENT suffers because of bad sound. Also, to the interviewer..quit making "uh huh" sounds constantly throughout his answers. This is 101 stuff here guys.

    As much as I liked Ridley Scott Im just not bothered about The Martian, its just 1 astronaut's survival on Mars, and sorry but to me thats just painfully boring. I'll give this a miss and just try to wait patiently alittle more for the Prometheus sequel.

    • @RaikenXion
      @RaikenXion 9 лет назад

      Wat But its Mars, 1 lonely red planet right on our door step, Id rather explore the ideas of what could be out there.
      If they're planning on going to Mars, why the heck havnt they established a jump-off base on the Moon already!?
      I mean you'd think journeys to the Moon and bk would be a common thing by now in this era, as in like practice to get into the idea of fairly long space travel and all that.
      Whats more interesting is thinking about what they may have already interms of technology right now, and what may have been held bk from the public, same with the academic level of scientists.

    • @RaikenXion
      @RaikenXion 9 лет назад

      Wat Yeh I know its about the whole humanistic survival of man's challenge to explore Mars, "very realistic" cause we may actually get to Mars one day huh.
      I want to like scream out stop falling for just the whole academic level of things when it comes to Issues of space, what is out there and what we have at our disposal in-terms of technology, but I guess theres no point on here, so I'll just say this. Have your Martian movie, enjoy that toned-down level of "mind opening" sci if, and I will enjoy my Paradise Lost sequel when it comes along next year.

    • @RaikenXion
      @RaikenXion 9 лет назад

      Wat Well I wish I could get you to feel the same about Ridley's other sci fi movie, but ofcourse you wont be, we are just at opposite ends of the spectrum here.
      My thing is sci fi psuedo science fiction, but even this whole Idea of journeying to Mars is sci fi itself, its not really completely realistic cause its only a work in progress, how do we know they havnt already got bases on the dark side of the moon? technology that they have held bk from the public, even science academics.

    • @hishamkaissi8771
      @hishamkaissi8771 8 лет назад

      +Raiken Xion just watch it lol it won't hurt.

    • @RaikenXion
      @RaikenXion 8 лет назад

      ***** Nah lol, infact the more hype The Martian generated, the more its actually greatly put me off the movie. Now it just feels totally overrated.
      But I totally get why its garnered much success. Its story of "human struggle" to reach the stars, all that. But the truth could be much deeper than most mainstream would like to think, I mean what if they actually held a top-secret mission to mars, arnd the sametime as the supposed "Moon Landings" happened in the 60s??
      While everyone was glued to their Tvs thinking man had made great leaps into the unknown, all that could have been a cover all the long and they had really got to the moon long before, by much advanced methods.
      Yeh sounds all conspiracy theorist stuff, but just think about it, watch things like Transformers 3 - Dark of the Moon, the opening scenes, where it shows the two astronauts, on the moon and the signal to earth cuts out purposefully, and the Pres (of that time), tells them they got something like couple hours to find it.
      Things like that make me laugh, cause what if something like that actually did happen, they cut the live-feed transmission off, from people bk on earth, and the astronauts were instructed to find something in a very short time-frame window. All the while the public are led to believe they have actually lost signal with the Apollo team.
