    I just heard the Katch G2 this morning at a hifi store. As a lover of DALI speakers (currently have the Oberon 3) I was so disappointed with the Katch. It's sounded horrible. Not just for the money - it was easily beat by the charge 5 and the soundlink flex both of which cost a quarter the price of the Katch! Of course the Katch sounded bigger because it is. But the sound was too pushed towards the treble range and the low end was non existent. But considering I can buy 2 soundlink flex for half the price of the Katch G2 (in Australia) and have real stereo, the Katch is a solid no.

    FWIW, I have the original Katch and it is terrible, even at low volumes. Thin, boxy and lifeless - no room, no soundstage. I’m not a boom bass bro, I know what ‘analytical’ is about, and analytical it is not. I recently got a single Minirig 3. It blows the Katch out of the water, also and particularly at low volume. Listening to piano concertos right now, and thought I’d give the Katch another chance because it was at hand. It was unbearable, had to turn it off and find my Minirig. It’s actually fun listening in mono on this thing, I don’t know how a tin with a single driver can have so much ‘room’.

    I have both Katch and the Audio Pro C3. I agree with everything mentioned here. I do want to add something that is not mentioned here. The Katch is kind of picky about the location you put them because of its unique sound dispersion. Once you find the right space for it, it performs much better than the C3. Very balanced sound and the resolution is insane. You can literally feel the music hanging in the air. If you just want a speaker that you can put it anywhere and always sound the same (decent), you can’t go wrong with the C3. I think the Katch is more a niche product. People who appreciate its sound will like it more than any other portable Bluetooth speaker on the market.

    The first time I ever saw “designed in…” was when I was shopping for a bike in the fall of 2020. I can’t remember the brand but their bikes had stickers that said “designed in the USA”, in decent sized font, in tandem with a 2 inch in diameter American flag. Then right below that, in tiny tiny tiny font, was “made in China”. So tiny you needed reading glasses to read it 🤓. Deceptive, much?
    Btw, the Mifa Wildbox is $89 on Amazon, which seems like a steal. Would it be redundant in copping if I already have the Motion Boom?

      thats about where the price should be, in line with the boom. for some they will prefer the more neutral sound of the wildbox along with its lights and aux. for me i prefer the fuller sound of the boom over 50%.

    The Dali Spektor, Oberon, Opticon, Menuet and all the way to the flagship Rubicon series have never measured flat. All of them possess the Dali house sound, you either like or you dont. I for one hate it. They are top end orientated for that 'audiophile sparkle'. Ive never met a Dali owner of any series that sits on axis, mostly zero toe in for that matter. I see they are trying to do the same thing here, a big fail on their part. Im sure this is one speaker that would sound better listened to way off axis, but it still wont be my cup of tea. The way the FR changes from volume to volume is just unacceptable.

    • @alanrossreviews
      @alanrossreviews  2 года назад +1

      i get your point but i tried it all angles and it sounded best for me on axis where you still a sense of a decent soundstage. audiophile sparkle maybe but for me simply over bright.

      @@alanrossreviews it is a darn bright speaker if you look at how they shaped the entire spectrum, all that uneveness will make you percieve as sharp, especially with that dip in the mids and a sudden spike. This will give the wow factor when people first listen to it, in fact it sounded good to me initially when I heard the 40% volume test. After taking a second and third listen, I started to sense some shrillness, at 50% volume up it sounded bad and at 100% I had to the volume down. Lol!

    • @alanrossreviews
      @alanrossreviews  2 года назад +1

      oh yeah agree 100%, if you only listen as really low levels and 40% is where you will be then its a decent old listen. i dont know why they couldnt just reduce overall loudness and give consistent tuning all the way up.

      They axed the A2 as it too fell over so easy and the battery was awful but when placed in a corner it sounded big with deep base .
