Thank you for these helpful tips! I am planning to go on my first international travel solo later on this year and while its super exciting its also equally nerve racking in making sure I have everything in order.
Good to see someone do something as simple as this, people need to know the basics and generally not covered. I got caught out by the global roaming charges, I knew it would be a tad expensive but not as bad as it was calling back to Aus from Cambodia, never again, get a local sim. Again thanks.
I like videos that are impersonal like this. Some videos get caught up just narrating their life too much that the info I came here for is lost somewhere in the middle of their life novel. Thank you for very organized tutorial.
This has a lot of good advice! I just started the whole travel vlogging and living abroad thing, but since I never travelled a whole lot before, it's good to be reminded of some of these things that are easy to forget!
Also food for thought: you can port your US number to google voice(costs a one time fee of $20 dollars I think though) if you are gonna be gone for a longer period of time but still want your US number when you return. I have mine just linked to my gmail and can still send/receive texts from that number while abroad. Doesn't cost anything for me or anyone who texts me. Phone calling won't work on it though, but the texting is nice. You can always port the number back to whatever carrier you want when you return! I think google maps offline maps also will reroute you if you miss a turn or something, so handy!
Good preparation is key to all the travels. Especially overseas. The phone is a good tip though. Although, I’m using WiFi most of the time as that becomes easier and easier and cost nothing. Happy journey! Rachel
Expanding a little on comment 14; I would learn how to count to ten in the foreign language. I might add point 15: Be polite and respectful to people in foreign countries. A version of this could be "When in Rome do as the Romans do." Respect other people and their cultures in their country; this should be obvious.
Great useful video! One thing we don't think you mentioned is to check if the country requires proof of onward travel. It's good to get that sorted out at home so you don't have to frantically buy a ticket off your phone at the airport haha
uuuugh i cant wait to be done with school (one and a half years left) and start working up a budget to go to New Zeeland. your videos keep awakening my interest and i wish i could bring out my suitcase already
Great videos this month - keep up the good work. Btw, I met up with a friend the other day who runs waka tours & thought of you & your love of the water. If you are planning to come to Wellington at some point and are interested, get in touch in advance for a place; they may even sponsor a video.
Very helpful. Thanks for making this video. I am traveling to Canada in less than 2 weeks and this is my first int'l travel! Excited but nervous as well! You gave me several things to think about and check on, so I appreciate it!.
Good Advice (Although do they even make non chip/pin cards anymore?) One thing I would say is see if your Bank has a reciprocal agreement with banks in the country you are going to. For example Scotiabank/Tangerine here in Canada I can use my card at Westpac in Aus/NZ or Barclays in the UK ect. and there are no fees.
dammmnnn !!! i was in chch all week and i totally forgot that you were here. now at the airport for a flightto sydney, but regretting that we didn't meet ! ugh :(
Mari you've inspired me to wanna travel and see the world. I'm currently trying to plan my first big trip backpacking out of the country these tips will help. Manalo from Hawaii 🤙🏽🍍 you should visit Hawaii I'd love to show you around some cool hiking spots 😊
Yes, Polish currency is called the złoty. łodz is also not pronounced "loads" it is "woods" since the ł makes a "wuh" sound. I still don't know what number combination to press to make the ł. ¿ (alt+168 for Spanish interrogation marks) σ (alt+229, etc. can be used for Greek Letters) é (alt+130) «Alt+430 and alt+431 are used for French quotation marks.» If you don't learn to speak the language, at least learn the basic layout of the city or country you are visiting. ç (alt+135)
I just searched "plan for trip"...and happened to click on this video first. Coincidentally, my trip is for NZ! Hah. Must be at the right place. Thanks for the tips!
I, too, scan all my travel documents, but I user Evernote. I can also webclip sites and maps to my travel destination folder. I can access my folder offline, but in Evernote you have to be a Plus or Premium member for that feature. And you can access Evernote from any device. You can also share that folder with family members.
I blogged about it on WordPress. Evernote is not for everyone considering you have to pay for Plus & Premium features, but they do have a free basic subscription. Love your tips, by the way. cafeandjournal.wordpress.com/2017/02/15/using-evernote-to-plan-a-trip/
Good info! Eventually I plan to travel to Norway to see my girlfriend, which probably won't be until a while from now. Now she said "Hey maybe I could help you pay for your ticket from the U.S. to here, just gimme your debit card number & I could deposit some helpful money". I'm not sure if that's okay, what's your opinion on that?
@ Americans - please try to downplay it when you're abroad because you can be construed as arrogant by the locals and remember its their territory, not yours.
All I know everything has it beginning and haters like you will always be around no matter what so I don't care what you think or say what I post becomes my business and I'm not asking you to come and watch my videos on my Chanel nonsense

Be sure to go to your bank and get an ATM card. Leave your Debit Card at home - ITS NOT A CREDIT CARD!!!!!! While at the bank delink your checking account from your savings account and leave only enough money in your checking account to take care of petty cash requirements. That's so if thieves somehow get access to your ATM card they cant get any more money than whats in your checking account. Also when overseas you a little common sense. If there is an area, street district of a city you wouldn't go into at a nearby city then why in the world would you go into a similar area in a foreign country! The result will be the same plus a ruined vacation.
Also tell your bank where you are going and for how long. They will monitor the activity on your cards and may freeze your account if it is used in a country not on your list.
Thanks for the heads up! You would sound more intelligent if you didn't use "Vocal Fry". this type of annunciation makes intelligent women sound like idiots. No more "Up Sweeps" within the sentences...it drives me nuts..lol. God Bless
I'm traveling to norway alone for my first trip outside the us. This is really informative thank you 😌

Looking at Polish Restaurant menus I genuinely thought I would have to pay €130 for my food. It was actually zł so ~€30

Contrary to popular belief that we are all a bunch of loud, ignorant @$$holes, most of us are actually decent human beings.
