We call ours birdie on a nest…I own a Breeo with an Outpost and have used the Outpost system to cook over my friends Solo Stove. It worked out just fine, my preference is to put a large cast iron skillet on the outpost for most of my cooks. It’s easier for cleanup and I find most things taste better when cooking on cast iron. Just how I do it…great videos with plenty of detail, keep up the good work.
Birdie on a nest - nice. I haven't heard that one yet, but totally makes sense! I haven't tried a skillet on the outpost yet, but that's a great idea. I have no doubt it'll hold it. That thing is sturdy. I can imagine cleanup is much easier, and the fire pit doesn't discolor as fast I'm sure. Thanks for the comment!
Great video!! I started with the Solo Stove and loved it! Would just throw a grill grate on top to cook steaks. Then came the Outpost to grill on. Would stick it in the ground and swing over the Solo, enjoyed it. Was so impressed with the quality of the outpost and the fact that it was made in the USA that I sold the Solo to my neighbor and bought the Breeo because it has a mounting system for the Outpost. Love it! Like the ability to swing the grill out of the way and move it up and down. Then I add Cast iron on top when I want. The Breeo is much better made but heavier to transport. Hard to decide but I think the Breeo will last longer and has a better grilling / cooking system. But the Solo was easier to transport because it was lighter and came with a bag to carry it around in. They are both awesome as firepits though!!
I like the idea of the outpost grill with a cast iron skillet vs the Breeo griddle.
I've been considering the Outpost for my Bonfire (Solo Stove) for awhile. This was very helpful and the visuals were great! I have a lot of cast iron I could use on the Outpost, so it wouldn't make sense to buy more. PLUS, the outpost would be easy to take camping and use over their firepits without bringing my Solo Stove
I agree with your assessment of the griddles for both units. It would be impossible to cook the fajitas on the Breeo sear plate griddle without losing food over the side. Interesting that Breeo hasn't come up with a better system. Placing a griddle on the Outpost will be the solution for me. Thanks for your videos, they are very informative and helpful!
You can put a cast iron pan on the outpost. Or, what I like to do is wait for the fire to go down and put a wok on the Center hole. Then you can sauté to your hearts content and warm up the wraps on the edge of the griddle.
Thank you for this!!Excellent info. I have been looking at both
Good review! I have the solo stove bonefire! I call it an Egg-in-a-nest
When Melissa reads this comment, she's going to be so happy. It's her family that calls it Egg-in-a-nest, so she's going to feel so justified. A family friend taught it to us and called is Texas Toast, but I don't think that rings true anymore for this dish. Thanks for watching!
Yeah, I know this is supposed to be about the grill quality, but the food looks amazing. 😋🍴
Good video. I just got the solo stove Yukon with the griddle top and wok. It is pretty hard to cook because of the fore management. I am going to look for a side post adjustable grill to have the flexibility to adjust distance from the heat. New sub here.
From experience cast iron is easier to clean well it's warm. I throw my griddle on my gas grill to warm then I use hot soapy water and even the burnt on food comes off with little effort.
Awesome video! Breeo all the way!!
Ok. So hear me out. Can that Breeo Grill be installed on the post upside down and still slide and lock into place? If so, any size cast iron/carbon steel skillet/griddle will work on that thing. I got a 15 inch Lodge carbon steel pan that is just begging to be used on that thing. If you already have cookware to use on that Breeo, sounds like that's the way to go. You'll be able to slide it up and down to control temps better.
Wish he’d reply to your question. Great ask!
Did you ever find out if it could be turned upside down?
Hi David I have learned so much from you product reviews and how you go in detail! As a subscriber and given the luxury that you have both products with all the accessories I would like request a video of the accessory compatibility with primarily Breeo accessories used on solo stove. I’m am really interested because the build quality on the accessories looks A++ and I happen to own a solo stove and only came to know the Breeo from the videos you posted.
Hi Eduardo, thanks for watching! Let me talk with Melissa and see what we can fit into the content calendar. Are there any accessories that you’re interested in over others? A lot to choose from out there, so give me a little more detail and I’ll see what we can do.
So, seeing if the sear plate is compatible with Bonfire. I have a ranger, which I've already cooked using the 24" outpost grill. I did my own setup since I last commented. I'm planning on selling my solo stove bonfire new in box and upgrading to Breeo. I was primarily considering keeping the bonfire 2.0 and just buying the Breeo accessories.
Love the commentary voice ❤
You could set up a Wall Control peg board with one of their hooks to hang the Breeo pieces & Solo Stove pieces.
I'm going to have to look into Wall Control. That's new to me.
Would it work to set the Solo griddle top over the opening of the Breeo? Just a thought. Great video from a new subscriber. Cheers
Just bought a kadai. Just fancied camp fire type cooking and heating. Hopefully it won’t be a waste of money
I haven’t heard of that brand, but let us know how it goes!
Breeo all day!
I would try a garden hose mount-the kind that you wind a hose on manually. Just need one that can support the weight and small enough for the top to slide over it.
Can you use the Yukon large skillet and grill grate on the solo stove?
Love my solo stove! Fantastic little fire pits.
Right on Bill! Does it go over-landing or camping with you?
An idea for getting rid of the grease. Wipe it out with a paper towel and throw it into the fire. Will help keep fire alive.
Can you burn regular charcoal in the fire pit instead when cooking ?
Thank you for this video - I will stay loyal to my Kamado Joe for cooking instead of trying this nonsense cooking with a high heat fire pit.
The cast on iron griddle if seasoned correctly, will not rust! And please don’t use soap and water cleaning it.
Solo stove all the way!!!
If you prefer Chinese products over American!
How would the Burch Barrel compare along side these?
I’m not sure Dan. I haven’t ever seen a Burch Barrel in person, so I can’t really add anything here.
Breeo has a storage rack
can you use the cast iron on the breeo
Do you mean put a cast iron pan on the Outpost Grill? If so, then yes. It'll hold that weight no problem.
@@TheBarbecueLab I was thinking could you use the solo stoves cast iron pan you used. By the way thanks for this comparison I have been going back and forth on these great job!
@@Vashtstamped Thanks J N. Using the Solo Stove Griddle top or the Grill top on the Breeo would be challenging I think, simply because it would be so close to the fire. The Breeo SearPlate sits right on top of the lip of the Y-Series, and it's too close for comfort for me. The one think that the SearPlate does though is allow heat and flames to escape through the middle, which the Solo griddle wouldn't do. I think the Solo griddle would probably mess up the top of the Breeo and stifle the fire by basically making it so heat and exhaust have nowhere to go when that top is on there. I haven't tried it, but that's what i'm guessing would happen. I do think that you could put a large cast iron pan or griddle on top of the Outpost Grill and use that as a griddle. That would be an interesting idea.
