Cary Grant and Irene Dunne could do it all -- romance, comedy, drama. And pure class from start to finish. And loved the costuming!
Man, I MISS these kind of movies !!! 😍😍😍
Irene Dunne has impeccable comedic timing 🧡🧡💛💛💚💚
Irresistible, and Irene Donne is magical.
I adore Irene Dunne! She was a very talented actress. This movie was great!
His charisma and seance of humor with people makes him attractive.
Whoo Whoo that Cary Grant. Love that man. His movies are always good.
I find these movies to be wonderful I love them they are better than today's junk ❤❤❤
The truth...
You can’t beat an old black & white movie. Looking forward to this one.
You are so right...❤❤❤
I can't believe that we can watch this classical old movie by RUclips. I like Cary Grant very much. He was an amazing actor. Thanks for uploading it.
Very well said ❤
I'll suffer the bad syncing just to enjoy a Cary Grant I had never seen. Thanks
Cary Grant....what a man love his movies
YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT ABOUT CARY GRANT!😉😊🥰😍🤩😘😗☺️😚😙🥲😋😛😜🤪😝🤑🤗🤭🤫🤔😏🥳😎😮😯😲😳😺😸😹😻😼😽RIGHT AFTER RUDY VALENTINO!😊😏
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It was very witty, super cute.
"Marriage is a beautiful thing" what a good line, with wonderful sentiments. After he tells his wife to shut up 🤣😂🤣.
Ahahaha‼️
Yea just got that‼️
@@jacquelinejanz5792 THE SAME HERE!😂😅
In the Wikipedia summary of ''The Awful Truth,'' it was said that when Columbia previewed the movie, the audience ''roared with laughter'' as the lawyer told Lucy ''Marriage is a beautiful thing'' after bawling out his wife. Classic screwball comedy stuff.
This cast is worth the watch: Cary Grant, Irene Dunne and Ralph Bellamy, all in their prime. That dog looks like Asta.
It is Asta!🦮
"Asta'' was on loanout from MGM for this film.
It is!!!

I love all of Carey grants films.!!! Wonderful actor .!!! And handsome .!!! Xx
An Absolute Classic!
Love Irene Dunne! ... and Cary Grant, and they were Perfection in a Comedy !
Loving that dancing scene. Amazed how wonderful is cinematography from those years. Thanks a lot a lot for spreading.
I love Cary! What a handsome and funny gentleman actor. They don't make them ANYMORE. PERIOD.
He had a many years live in relationship with another actor....offputting
Did you notice Irene Dunne? She was so fantastic in the film and such a great comedian !!

This movie is hilarious! Cary Grant and Irene Dunne were great in this. Treat yourself to this delightful comedy. You'll love it!
I agree. Irene is a hoot.
Have been hoping this would pop up! Saw some time ago & love it! Too funny
I'm sure I would - if the voices weren't so badly out of sync.
@@Skylark_Jones yes, disappointing. I tried but can't watch it.
Great line
PUT YOUR FOOT DOWN
One of my favorite movies of all time. So witty and with two of my favorite actors. They were always great together!
Cary Grant is in a league of his own .
IT'S CARY🤵♂️ GRANT!IS IN LEAGUE OF HIS OWN!
Yes. Even he wanted to be Cary Grant.
Leo McCarey was a genius of a director. He really knew how to get the best from his actors.
Indeed. A lot of this feels a bit like a Robert Altman film; the ensemble acting is so natural feeling.
My opinion, Irene Dunn was a genius comedian and excellent at a great many things!
Think of all the greats that were NEVER filmed 😮
Imagine, she set out to be a teacher..
Irene Dunne is wonderful!
Bringing Up Baby is an awesome flick too
This is my favorite screwball comedy, or comedy in general actually. I have it on dvd and I've seen it at least a dozen times, it gets me every time. 'Here's your diploma!' 🤣🤣🤣
Thank you so much for a wonderful video. I’ve loved Carrie Grant all my life. He is such a fine actor and he always makes everything so much fun to watch.
This is an absolute gem of a movie! Loved every minute! ♥
Audio-synch issues aside, this is a great example of true Screwball comedy…..when movies were funny without being gross or loaded with profanity. Just pure talent on display. Witty script and wonderful performances, especially Dunne and Grant.
Locate an in-sync version of “Awful Truth” and you can enjoy it as it was meant to be enjoyed (especially the scene where Irene Dunne crashes the gathering of Grant’s new girlfriend’s family-it’s the purest gold!) 😊
Like the sound in a large stadium, takes too long to get to your ear.
I didn't like the character of the wife. Too stupid and immature to be believable
Talking of profanities, I was sickened when I watched this new film 'Nobody'.
The film begins with the sentence 'Who the 'FK' are you?" I just saw it twice to count the FK term. It has been used 186 times .. besides other profanities.
{Lots of love 🥰from India.}

I’ll bet that’s the same dog they used in “Bringing Up Baby.’’ Another FABULOUS movie with Cary Grant ❤❤❤

At first I wasn't going to finish watching this but I just kept on watching. Irene Dunne showed her acting "chomps"when she came in as the "sister" Lol! It was so funny and a little ironic at the end when they fought over Mr. Smith but ended the movie with a cat! Enjoyable!
I just got off my duff to clean my floors, and mostly only listened to the movie. Loved the dialogue, and the sound is remarkably clear with a decent volume!
Thank You for Irene & Cary! Perfection❤️
I still rock with laughter at this 86 yr old screwball comedy. Cary, Irene, Cecil Cunningham and Joyce Compton are pure delights.
Wow, so close to being 100 years old 😆 that's simply amazing.

🗣😳🙃 Watched it anyway because it was such a funny, delightful, heartwarming movie.
The sound was out of sync, but STILL worth watching! The glamour of the late 30's was magnificent! Irene Dunn and Cary Grant, what a handsome duo!
It should read Cary Grant and Irene Dunne. The greatest couple of all time for me. You don't type in Spencer Tracy and forget Katharine Hepburn. Irene was nominated for 5 Oscars. Also, My Favorite Wife and Penny Serenade,
Grant and Dunne at their finest. Style and wit and McCareys direction make it a pure delight. No wonder that Cary Grant is regarded to be in the top five list of greatest movie stars of all time.
In my list he's number ONE! And the #1 sexiest man ever!
As great as Cary Grant was as an actor and leading man during the golden age of Hollywood, he never won an Oscar He was nominated for his work in Penny Serenade and None But the Lonely Heart,

Love the opening titles and music. Pure class. When America was great.
And when the heck wss that? It never was.
How about it STILL IS
I just searched old Hollywood movies and got introduced to the charactor played by Carry Grant. So lovely and melodious.
PLAYED BY CARY🤵♂️ GRANT!
Surely you know his name was Cary, not carry. Actually it was Archie Leach, but that's another story.
If only we could make movies 🎥 like this today. We have too much technology and not enough of the natural effects of everyday life in film today. Just the crashing of the mirror and the antics of the dog 🐕 🙃 make me laugh. 💘
Amen.
Tech trying to pass for talent. And failing.

Yes out of sync, but seen this gem several times before. Back in the late 1980s I met and had lunch at my friend 's house with the debonair Irene Dunne's Lucy's voice teacher, actor Alexander D'Arcy. He was as charming as his movie roles. Remember him as Marilyn Monroe 's date in "How To Mary A Millionaire"?
I forgot to ask him about his experience on The Awful Truth, though he did talk about Marilyn Monroe.
I just can`t believe that I have never watched this movie before.
What a treat!!
Irene Dunne and Cary Grant are two of my favorite actors and they are just wonderful together :)))

See them costar in My Favorite Wife (1940), remade in 1962 as Something's Got to Give. And in a circa 1940 American domestic tragedy film Pennies from Heaven, where they play a couple whose marriage falls apart after the death of their little child.
@@JudgeJulieLit I think that's called Penny Serenade, not Pennies From Heaven. They move to an apartment above the office of the small town newspaper that he runs, and that is constantly failing. It's on several channels here on YT.

Some info about this that you may not know. The script wasn't complete & many scenes were done (made up) as they were acting. Cary Grant was So handsome. He looks like the kind of man I'd like to marry. Especially, if his personality is or was what it seems to be. Calm, clever, easy going and nice sense of humor.
They don't make like they used to.
Sorry Beva, he was gay.
@@bj7057 Bi, not gay. Not that it makes an iota of difference to us, who will never meet him anyway, so why on earth do you care?
He’s bi
There’s no evidence Cary Grant was gay or bi. He had five wives and gave up acting to be a stay-at-home dad at aged 62. The idea that he was gay came from the fact that he lived with Randy Scott for 12 years and that photos of them living together in the ‘30s look a bit intimate, but they were publicity shots. As a huge star and a very handsome one, Cary had lots of Hollywood friends including some who were gay.
He wasn’t easy-going and calm though, he was very troubled and difficult to live with until his later years.
It’s a private matter and if society wasn’t so homophobic in the first place actors wouldn’t have had to pretend
I have this movie I remember when I found it I was so happy it makes me laugh so much my side's hurt love it
I don't mean to be a wet blanket, but I find watching a film disconcerting when the audio and video are so out of sync ...

When movies had social decorum and moral decency in every way possible
Greatly overrated. I hate that word, but here it is 100% accurate. Who gives a hoot about decorum or phony morals? Not me, that's for sure.
Moral decency ? It starts with Cary saying that he went to Florida for a week, when in reality, he was in New York holed up in a Hotel with who knows who. Then he questions his wife when she comes home after being out all night with her singing coach. He doesn't believe anything she says, and it turns out she was telling the truth.Moral decency...😮
Witty and charming. And, oh, the dog was to die for.
