My name is Matthew and I live in a van. I lost my job due to "cut backs" from the pandemic of 2020 and decided to seriously restructure my life. I am also a single dad who needed to find a solution that would allow me to remain in my daughter's life and plan for her future. After tons of research into #vanlife, I knew it was for me.
From March 2021 until October 2021 I spent my days building out my Chevrolet Express 2500, which came to be known as "Lucky" and as of October 18, 2021 I have been living in Lucky full time.
The build was done with almost no experience on my end and I used the one incredible tool I had at my disposal - the internet - to learn what I needed to build Lucky into a very comfortable tiny home.
I have always had a bit of a passion for being in front of the camera and really enjoy capturing the world around us. This really played into how I was feeling after almost a year of working from home when I "commuted" from the bedroom to the couch. I was starting to feel extremely unhealthy, unmotivated and despondent. I HATED that, and that's not a word I like to throw around. This new lifestyle gives me opportunities I just didn't have before and I am so excited to be able to share it all with you.
I truly believe we all have the capabilities to turn our lives around, should we choose to do so - and if I can inspire you to shoot for something better then I have done a decent job and that will keep me going.
There is more to life than the consume, consume, spend, spend lifestyle I feel we have all been conditioned to follow and I just want to do the best I can for myself first and foremost. Our time is limited and I do not want to waste another second on a lifestyle that doesn't bring me joy!

Reading some of the squawks here about 'clickbait'. Am I the only one who realises these types of titles are just 'in-jokes' for those of us who follow Matthew regularly. Lighten up folks and just enjoy the tongue-in-cheek humour Matthew has.

Watching your videos has inspired me to take my yet unnamed converted cargo van, on a trip through the B.C coast next summer. Been to Vancouver and the island twice. But quick trips. So, hopefully no fires next summer and I'll make the trip.
I'm 70..and still learning . And my beautiful 27 yr old daughter wants to come with me. I didn't even ask her...She's well I'm coming too Dad.
So, easy to get caught up in negativity today.

Looking forward to eventually transitioning to Van life and getting rid of my house. I did take the time to buy a lot of the stuff I’ll use on the future van since I have the space. This will allow me to build the van out and then decide what to keep. Definitely bringing my switch and steam deck along for the ride.

I have vivid memories of driving through rural Tennessee, the last 50 miles "on the red line," because I forgot that in the boonies the stores close on Sunday nights, and small rural stores with gas pumps were the only thing happening, the last 50 miles to my house. Ok, maybe 40. But I know I got the last, LAST 10 miles strictly on prayer.
I don’t know if this was one of the types of hotel rooms or not. But some of them are going to to a device by the door to slide the room key into to be able to to turn the lights on.
Anyone paying attention would know this isn’t click bait, technically he did leave the van life - he didn’t say it was permanent, and on the drive out to his parent’s place, he did say that he had to take the pirate princess back to her mom and was going to use Grace, not Lucky as he was going back. Keep on doing you and roaming around our beautiful country, no matter if you do it in Lucky or in Grace. 😊❤

I disagree, as soon as I see sensational misleading titles the channel starts descending down the ladder of doom. I like Matt’s personality and his sense of humour, just hope he doesn’t go dow that rabbit hole. I’m not unsubscribing yet, but it’s now on my radar.
@@ivank196 wasn’t a misleading title though. I left Vanlife behind and I didn’t say forever. People get upset because they immediately define what the title means for themselves and if the content doesn’t fit in that definition they think they were taken for a ride or some other such nonsense. At the end of the day, titles shouldn’t matter to those that like and enjoy the content.
And if we want to get really technical the REAL titles of my videos are at the beginning of the actual video - the ones people would assume are “normal” titles. 😁
To get upset about a title and say “that’s it I am unsubscribing and never watching again” only makes sense if the titles are outright lies - such as MY VAN CAUGHT FIRE - and then there was no ban on fire in the video 👍
@@VanlifePLUS as soon as I saw the title, I knew he was taking his daughter back to her mom in Grace - he shared that he would be doing that when he had picked up his girl and was heading out to his parents place. I never thought he was leaving forever, but then I don’t watch based upon the title because I follow him and just like watching his videos regardless. 😁❤️

Nope, my mom 90yo still wants hard copy photos. The walls are, photo albums, and dresser tops are filled with photos.
Please do not ever stop filming the beautiful scenery and relaxing music. As a person who is legally blind and can no longer drive to escape and do solo camping, the vlogs I love the most are inclusive of those two things.

@007nadineL Either I print them out on my printer using photo paper or I gather all photos sent to me for her from my brothers and nephews, uncle, aunts, or cousins and upload to her Walgreen's account for processing. Usually ready within a couple hours for pickup or delivery. She updates her photo boards constantly and keeps the older ones. She has four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

We have an off brand smokeless wood/pellet fire pit and LOVE it! We’ve had it for a couple of years now & use it often. The Solo stove is nice but I’m too cheap! Ours came with the grill top & carrying case. With Solo Stove almost all the accessories are sold separately.

If you follow this channel with even some slight regularity, you really don’t care what the title of it is. You’re going to watch and follow no matter what. Us regular viewers know Matt and know his sense of humor. Never considered his titles as clickbait. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Another fabulous video. I love Brooklyn's voice...her grumpy, sleepy voice. Her pleading voice. Her matter-of-fact voice. She's delightful. Penny's photo from your Mum was awesome. And I have to say, I was getting major anxiety when you were driving Grace AND THE GAS LIGHT CAME ON. I'm okay now though, thanks for asking. I love the Carriage House Hotel. I've stayed there a couple of times, and will be there again soon. I'm hoping you got the dark room thing sorted out. That would be disconcerting, to say the least. and I AM afraid of the dark. Yikes!

Hi Matt, love your channel. Watch every one. Yet confidentially wanted to express often your vlogs are too long for me to watch the whole thing. Just don" have that much time. I had heard (don't know if it is tru tho) that if people watch the entire video, the creator gets more credit one way or another. I always of course hit "like" because i do, yet the long ones (over a half hour) I cannot watch in their entirety.
