The Allman’s transcend “southern rock.” I’m an old man and I’ve seen them live. They combine jazz, blues, rock, country and blend them into something so much greater than the sum of its parts. Skynyrd is southern rock (and I love them too) 🫡👍🏼🤟🏽
2 drummers (Butch and Jaimoe), one bassplayer/vocalist (Berry), one keyboardist/lead vocalist (Gregg Allman), two guitarists -- one who was also a vocalist (Dickey Betts) and the other who was the bandleader and the older brother of the keyboard player (Duane Allman). I don't want to say more than that. If someone wants to really learn about the Allman Brothers Band, there is all kinds of research material out there. They were around with their classic lineup for only 2 years, because Duane, the heart and soul of the band, was killed in a motorcycle wreck in late 1971. He was only 24.
I'm a 63 yo female who still doesn't go on a road trip without bringing my Allman Brothers Fillmore East CDs. Fantastic musicians. Gregg is only 19 to 21 yo in this video, unbelievable how he has such a seasoned voice. ❤
Gregg was 23 at the time this was recorded, and yes, the whole band sound like elder statesmen here even tho they were only 22 to 26 years old inj 1971 and had only played together for about 2 years.
In my humble opinion, not before or since has rock witnessed a more formidable twin guitar attack, or maybe assault is a better descriptor, than that of Duane 'Skydog' Allman & Forrest Richard "Dickey" Betts. The way their playing complimented each other, even when they would go off in different directions for long stretches at a time was incredible. Tip to tale, top to bottom, perhaps the most talented American rock band ever.
And to think all that the original lineup accomplished (2.75 (roughly) studio albums and the greatest live album ever) was over by the time Duane passed at the age of 24 in 1971. The few times I saw the original lineup are absolutely musical highlights of my life!
Dont forget bassist Berry Oakley, probably the best of his era, who died in a motorcycle accident (like Duane) just a couple blocks from where Duane crashed, I think one day short of exactly a year later. Imagine what they'd have done w/ more time. Like Skynyrd. sigh. Can you imagine Duane jamming w/ Stevie Ray Vaughan? double sigh

One came over from a famous jazz band.The singer plays keys and organ. Extremely talented band - great live. Looked at as one of the best live bands ever. ‘One way out’is a very cool song. You’ll hear more of Gregg’s voice. Duane Allman is looked at as one of the greatest guitarists of all time. I could go on and on. You need to read up on them.
yes, you'll find so much 60/70 music history thru them. Gregg's autobiography is a history lesson in itself. All these guys were YOUNG, in their early 20's. Jaimo played with Wilson Picket, a great blues singer and Duane did studio work with Aretha and other greats cause they asked for him "SKYDOG". lol
The Allman Brothers are a national treasure. A perfect blend of American roots music; rock, country, jazz and blues, If the band Govt Mule ever performs in your area, y'all should go check em out. A similar type southern rock jam band, with a harder edge to their sound. Definitely influenced by the AB band. Some of the Govt Mule members were actually a part of later incarnations of the Allman Brothers band. Enjoyed watching y'all's reaction so much you just got a new subscriber.👍👍
I'm 73, saw them in 1970. I came away changed by the experience and feeling way cooler. I still feel that way 54 years later. Do a deep dive, guys. You'll be cooler too. Stormy Monday, Jessica, One Way Out, Soulshine - you won't be sorry, you'll be changed.
Saw them live at the San Francisco Cow Palace New Year's Eve 1973 also the Grateful Dead played. Nice way to start out a new year. PS Grand funk railroad. Inside looking out.
Iin 1960, Gregg and Duane Allman attended a concert in Nashville with Jackie Wilson, Otis Redding, B.B. King, and Patti LaBelle which had a profound affect on them. Blues, Soul ,Jazz, Gospel and Rock all part of the Allman Bros material. BTW 2 drummers

I was blessed to see the Allman Brothers Band my 1st semester at New Mexico State in Las Cruces, NM in October of 1971. Some buddies and I were recruited by our RA to hump the equipment from the trucks to the stage for the roadies to set up. As payment, we got to stay while they did their sound check, got into the concert for free, and got to watch from stage left. They played the next night in San Diego, and then returned to Macon where Duane Allman, one of the guitarists was killed in a motorcycle accident two weeks after they got back home. So we were blessed to have seen and met Duane Allman at the next to the last performance he ever gave.
That's Gregg Allman on vocals. In 1970 shortly before we lost Duane Allman (lead guitarist) in a motorcycle accident. The Allman Bros. are one of the greatest bands of all time. You might also check out the album Derek and the Dominoes which includes Duane Allman and Eric Clapton. A fantastic album.
Gregg Allman was the lead singer of the Allman Brothers, although sometimes guitarist Dickie Betts sang (very easy to tell them apart). The Allman Brothers began in Macon, Georgia in 1969 and they officially retired in 2014. They had two drummers and two lead guitarists. Duane Allman was a legendary guitarist but he died on October 29, 1971 while in surgery after a motorcycle accident. Gregg Allman had a solo career aside from being in the Allman Brothers Band (he was also married to Cher at one time) and was a legend for his voice as well as his drug use, although he did eventually get clean. He died in 2017 from liver cancer. You really can’t go wrong with any Allman Brothers albums, and there are many. You should also listen to Gregg Allman’s solo albums which he began in 1973. He had a monster hit in the late 80’s with “I’m No Angel” which you certainly have heard if you listen to the radio.
A lot of times I’m pretty sure people have heard the song before but these guys couldn’t get the extraordinary 3,3,3,2 that changes to plain old 333 waltz rhythm. Almost no one can which makes this song sooo amazing.

Singer/ keyboads is Greg Allman, lead guitar is Duane Allman. Greg wrote this song when he was 19, it was recorded 2 years later in March 1969. Duane Allman died in a motorcycle accident on October 25, 1971; on November 11, 1972 bassist Berry Oakley died on the same road from a motorcycle accident.

One of my best friends, Rick Durrett, went to Emory in September 1969 and brought home this album at Christmas and turned my other best friends and me on to the ABB. He had been catching them Sundays in Piedmont Park. So Mike, George and I, who were still in high school, were fortunate enough to have gotten a jump on the rest of the music world when it came to the Allman Brothers. I will fill you in: Yes, they were heavily influenced by the blues. Duane Allman founded the group. Gregg Allman (Duane's little brother) is the organist and vocalist...so yes, you heard keyboards. Duane Allman and Dickie Betts are the guitarists. Both are leads, but Duane (the blond) plays slide, as well. There are two drummers - not one: Jaimoe Johanson and Butch Trucks. They make it look easy, don't they? Yes, there is a bassist: Berry Oakley. He's located between Duane and Dickie. Two lead guitars and two drummers were unheard of before the Allman Brothers. Their concerts at the Fillmore East were important because they were just catching on bit by bit outside the Southeast. I went to Europe for the first time in 1971. There was one guy in my group from Michigan and one day we struck up a conversation about music. He was "Little Feat, Little Feat, Little Feat." I was "Allman Brothers, Allman Brothers, Allman Brothers." We argued from Italy to London, when I ran across one of those "various artists' compilation albums" in a record store. There was one song by the Allman Brothers..."Black Hearted Woman" from the first album. I had the album at home, but I bought it anyway, took it back to the dorm where we were staying, found some guys who had a stereo, pulled Hasbrouck into their room, put on the song and played it for him. I had to keep holding up my hand and telling him, "Wait! There's more!" every time he thought the song was over. I converted him that day and he went to every Allman Brothers Concert he could find after that until the band finally broke up. I absolutely agree with you that the band wouldn't really work if you took away any one member. That's why I don't listen (as a rule) to any ABB recordings after Duane died. Also, if you're Eric Clapton fans and have been marveling at his guitar work on Layla...that's not Clapton. That's Duane Allman. Allman Bros had a 1972 album entitled “Eat a Peach”. The album title was in memory of Duane Allman who was killed when his motorcycle struck a truck hauling peaches. Thus, “Eat a Peach”.

The concert at the Beacon in the on St Paddy's day in the 90s, I happened into tickets. Dickey Betts was acting like an arsehole, sorry to say... just before he left them. Kinda put a stain on the show... but they were still brilliant!
Excuse me sir... Duane passed in '71. The live second set album was 1996 and it was Warren Haynes along with dickie Betts on guitar and Allen woody on bass since berry Oakley died shortly after Duane.

The ABB played two concerts at Fillmore East where this was recorded over a two day period. The better performance of this song is on the live album. The ABB at this time was Greg Allman on lead vocals and organ, Duane Allman on guitar and slide guitar, Dickey Betts on Guitar and vocals, Barry Oakley on bass, Butch Trucks on drums, and Jai "Jaimoe" Johnny Johnson on drums. They are considered by many to be one of the early bands that created the Southern Rock genre. Two other albums you should check out are The Allman Brothers Band Live Fillmore East and Eat a Peach.
The vocalist , also on Hammond organ, Gregg Allman, wrote this in his teens! Two drummers!!! This was in 5/4! His bro, Duane, on lead guitar along with Dickey Betts on the other lead. The progenitors of Southern Rock.

there were 2 drummers . Duane hadn't played a slide much and brought one to the studio to try it , picked it up amazingly fast. They had jazz undertones especially with ' In Memory of Elizabeth Reed' some bands at the time would play in the streets of SF. Duane would play all night long if he could . Since youre doing Southern Rock lets name a few more awesome artists from the South: Marshall Tucker, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot, and the Outlaws are all Super Southern Rock bands definitely worth listening too!

I visited my sister in California many years ago, and her boyfriend got us tickets to see The Allman Brothers Band, my first time, and I was stunned and amazed. I’ve seen The Grateful Dead, The Rolling Stones, Kinks, Dire Straits,… Allman Brothers Band was the best live.
Well- Butch Trucks’ nephew, Derek has a mighty fine blues band in this tradition with his wife , Susan. Every top blues artist jams with them. Derek is the best slide guitarist alive today. Even Rick Beato’s devoted an entire show to him. Tedeschi- Trucks Blues Band.
The lead singer is Gregg Allman on keyboards and the first lead guitar is Dwayne Allman who unfortunately died in a motorcycle accident sometime in the 70's.
New Haven College. That goes back a ways. I didn't even know they had a hall that could do a concert back then. It was mostly SNET employees getting degrees paid for by the company. Now they are University of New Haven. My dad graduated from New Haven College and my daughter graduated from UNH.
Back then for $2.00 I got to see J Geils, Brewer and Shipley (One toke over the line, sweet Jesus) and McEndry Spring. A friend knew the piano player for J Geils and we got to sit under the piano, on stage and passed a pipe full between us and the piano player. What a great concert. This is the music I grew up on in the south ,the Allman Brothers, C.D.B, ZZTOP, SRV, BBKING, Janis Joplin, Lynyrd Skynyrd will take you to church and made you testify that you received music you can feel !
I NEVER got so High at a concert ever... jus'sayin... as soon as the lights went down... there were joints passed around and anyone that didn't smoke hot high too 😉 You should listen to the studio versions and than live, and then you'll see TRUE ARTISTS at work!!!
The Fillmore East was legendary for great rock concerts AND lots of stoners. My father grew up on Long Island and he and his friends went to see an unbelievable amount of great shows there (Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane, The Who, The Doors, the Allman Brothers and on and on), and the party started while you were standing in line outside with people openly toking or taking acid. I went to see the Allman Brothers every time they played at the Beacon Theater on Broadway, which they did for several nights in a row from 1992-2010. Some of those shows I can’t recall too well because I was so baked, the cloud of smoke in that place looked like a smog alert. People would also hand out acid. I only tripped once when someone dosed my iced tea at a birthday party and didn’t tell me, it was so horrific I never wanted to do it again. Acid wasn’t really necessary at an Allman Brothers show because it was already a psychedelic experience, especially with the light show they always had. My father saw the Allman Brothers one time in the 70’s and Gregg Allman passed out two songs into the show and had to be carried offstage, Dickie Betts took over vocals and it was still one incredible show.
Greg Allman(vocals, organ) was a force of nature. It's great to see these reactions and watch the music I grew up loving being found by a new generation. Keep it up! P.S. I was also a rapper for 25yrs, but rock never left me.

The two drummers put powerful drive into the music. The singer was Greg All man and he was on keyboards. His brother Duane Allman was a guitar god and Dickie Betts was a fine player in his own right.
This band was one of my Dads favourites growing up. Of course I didn't really click with this band until actually their 1990 album Seven Turns which was considered their comeback album, still what a great band even though I started with their later material I went back to check out their 60s and 70s work and boy those are classics and untouchable. As someone who saw the original band live and has been listening to them for 50 plus years, I can tell you your next choice should come from their live album called,"at Fillmore East". It is considered by many as the best live blues album ever recorded. Whipping post which you just heard is also on that album and in my opinion considered the best version. The album I'm talking about was recorded between March 12th and 14th 1971. I believe most if not all of the songs on the live album that I mentioned came from the 13th and 14th. It's a double album that carried over to the next album,"eat a peach". The band had six members: Duane Allman, lead guitar and slide lead guitar plus unofficial leader of band; Richard "Dickey" Betts, lead guitarist, songwriter, singer; Gregg Allman, singer, songwriter, Hammond B3 organ; Berry Oakley, bass player (x lead guitarist), Jai Johansson, drums and percussion and Butch trucks, drums. During the three nights of this concert at the Fillmore East they had a 7th player, a good friend on harmonica, Thom Doucette. Well, there's a brief history. Now, may I make a suggestion for your next Allman Brothers song. My choice would be "you don't love me" off of the live album, "at Fillmore East".

SOME RANDOM FACTS: At the time this concert was recorded, singer/organist Gregg Allman was 23 years old and big brother Duane on lead guitar was 24. The show seen here was released as the double LP set _At Fillmore East_ in August 1971. That album catapulted the Allman Brothers Band to immediate superstardom and was certified gold just a few weeks later on October 15. Exactly 14 days after that, a month before his 25th birthday, Duane Allman died in a motorcycle wreck in Macon, Georgia 10/29/1971. Bassist Berry Oakley, who was 22 in this video, died a year later in a motorcycle wreck on the same street. Not positive but I believe the two drummers were the oldest members and both were 26 in this video; Butch Trucks, the long-haired drummer, is the uncle of present-day slide guitar master Derek Trucks.

Another vote for "One Way Out". There are *plenty* of incredible recordings of these guys. They were another seminal jam band and they were taped a lot. Don't make the mistake of trying to pigeon hole this band either. They're not just "Southern Rock". They're not just "Blues". They incorporate a lot of different influences in their music.

Just caught your 25 or 6 to 4, live at Tanglewood review, now the Allman Brothers...making some good picks. Dig deeper in to Duane Allmans story, playing and the early days of the band. Duane Allman and Boz Skaggs "Loan me a dime" is a good example of his talent.
I love me some Allman Bros. In the mountains I grew up with them. You should check out Lynyrd Skynyrd as well. The singer/writer is outta this world good. Try a standard like "Simple Man"; "Sweet Home Alabama"; or the more obscure "Mississippi Kid". Keep the journey going, dude. They're not Pink Floyd, but Southern Blues Rock with a killer piano player (Billy Powell) 5 lead guitar players, they are an experience you need to have. You won't regret it.

Think about this for a minute........countless studio credits to your credit in Muscle Shoals with the likes of Aretha Franklin, King Curtis, Boz Skaggs, Wilson Pickett, Clarence Carter, and many others, having the vision and organization to put together what would become the ABB and getting them out on the road, recording 2 excellent studio albums and most of a third with the band plus the greatest live album ever, more studio work including recording the "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs" album with Eric Clapton, Bobby Whitlock, Carl Radle, and Jim Gordon, also one of the greatest albums of all time, and tragically dead at the tender age of 24.........That's Duane Allman! Long history of this great band that lasted until the final curtain went down at the Beacon Theater in NYC in 2014. I encourage you to dig VERY deep into this wonderful band!
Welcome, wait till you listen to the studio versions of your Allman adventure..this is a great song but sometimes the technology on older live performance doesn't capture the magic.
Great who was the Lead singer was playing the keyboard. Older music is so good a lot of the rappers sample a lot of it to make their song sound better.

Did you actually see this video? There were obviously 2 drummers and you say THE drummer. You say you heard some keyboards, they showed Greg Allman playing the keyboards. Like your reactions but??? (they also showed the bass player)

This performance was recorded for a PBS special that never aired for some reason. As for rock vs. rap. Way too many of my fellow old people are utter hypocrites about it. We were constantly told by our elders that our music was nothing but noise. How dare they say the same thing about the music of today's kids. I remember being told over and over that the Beatles were "noise" and that they had "no talent."

And to think all that the original lineup accomplished (2.75 (roughly) studio albums and the greatest live album ever) was over by the time Duane passed at the age of 24 in 1971. The few times I saw the original lineup are absolutely musical highlights of my life!
Dont forget bassist Berry Oakley, probably the best of his era, who died in a motorcycle accident (like Duane) just a couple blocks from where Duane crashed, I think one day short of exactly a year later. If the band Govt Mule ever performs in your area, y'all should go check em out. A similar type southern rock jam band, with a harder edge to their sound. Definitely influenced by the AB band. Some of the Govt Mule members were actually a part of later incarnations of the Allman Brothers band.

Saw them live at the San Francisco Cow Palace New Year's Eve 1973 also the Grateful Dead played. Nice way to start out a new year. PS Grand funk railroad. Inside looking out.
Iin 1960, Gregg and Duane Allman attended a concert in Nashville with Jackie Wilson, Otis Redding, B.B. King, and Patti LaBelle which had a profound affect on them. Blues, Soul ,Jazz, Gospel and Rock all part of the Allman Bros material.

I was blessed to see the Allman Brothers Band my 1st semester at New Mexico State in Las Cruces, NM in October of 1971.
Some buddies and I were recruited by our RA to hump the equipment from the trucks to the stage for the roadies to set up.
As payment, we got to stay while they did their sound check, got into the concert for free, and got to watch from stage left.
They played the next night in San Diego, and then returned to Macon where Duane Allman, one of the guitarists was killed in a motorcycle accident two weeks after they got back home.
So we were blessed to have seen and met Duane Allman at the next to the last performance he ever gave.
Very, very few bands pulled off the two drummer combo successfully, and none came close to the Allman Brothers.
That's Gregg Allman on vocals. In 1970 shortly before we lost Duane Allman (lead guitarist) in a motorcycle accident. The Allman Bros. are one of the greatest bands of all time. Gregg Allman was the lead singer of the Allman Brothers, although sometimes guitarist Dickie Betts sang (very easy to tell them apart).
The Allman Brothers began in Macon, Georgia in 1969 and they officially retired in 2014. They had two drummers and two lead guitarists. You really can’t go wrong with any Allman Brothers albums, and there are many. You should also listen to Gregg Allman’s solo albums which he began in 1973. He had a monster hit in the late 80’s with “I’m No Angel” which you certainly have heard if you listen to the radio.
A lot of times I’m pretty sure people have heard the song before but these guys couldn’t get the extraordinary 3,3,3,2 that changes to plain old 333 waltz rhythm. Almost no one can which makes this song sooo amazing.

One of my best friends, Rick Durrett, went to Emory in September 1969 and brought home this album at Christmas and turned my other best friends and me on to the ABB. He had been catching them Sundays in Piedmont Park. We argued from Italy to London, when I ran across one of those "various artists' compilation albums" in a record store. There was one song by the Allman Brothers..."Black Hearted Woman" from the first album.
I had the album at home, but I bought it anyway, took it back to the dorm where we were staying, found some guys who had a stereo, pulled Hasbrouck into their room, put on the song and played it for him.
I had to keep holding up my hand and telling him, "Wait! There's more!" every time he thought the song was over.
I converted him that day and he went to every Allman Brothers Concert he could find after that until the band finally broke up.
I absolutely agree with you that the band wouldn't really work if you took away any one member. That's why I don't listen (as a rule) to any ABB recordings after Duane died.

Allman Bros had a 1972 album entitled “Eat a Peach”. The album title was in memory of Duane Allman who was killed when his motorcycle struck a truck hauling peaches. Thus, “Eat a Peach”.
That album is such a backdrop to my early childhood!! My dad cranked it every weekend til the game started😂👍

The concert at the Beacon in the on St Paddy's day in the 90s, I happened into tickets. Dickey Betts was acting like an arsehole, sorry to say... just before he left them. Kinda put a stain on the show... but they were still brilliant!

The ABB played two concerts at Fillmore East where this was recorded over a two day period. The better performance of this song is on the live album. The ABB at this time was Greg Allman on lead vocals and organ, Duane Allman on guitar and slide guitar, Dickey Betts on Guitar and vocals, Barry Oakley on bass, Butch Trucks on drums, and Jai "Jaimoe" Johnny Johnson on drums. They are considered by many to be one of the early bands that created the Southern Rock genre. Two other albums you should check out are The Allman Brothers Band Live Fillmore East and Eat a Peach.

there were 2 drummers . Duane hadn't played a slide much and brought one to the studio to try it , picked it up amazingly fast. They had jazz undertones especially with ' In Memory of Elizabeth Reed' some bands at the time would play in the streets of SF. Duane would play all night long if he could . Well- Butch Trucks’ nephew, Derek has a mighty fine blues band in this tradition with his wife , Susan. Every top blues artist jams with them. Derek is the best slide guitarist alive today. Even Rick Beato’s devoted an entire show to him. Tedeschi- Trucks Blues Band.

I had the pleasure of seeing the Allman Brothers in 1970 at New Haven College, for the whopping cost of $2.00. They played for hours.
I have a friend in Maryland who got to see them 3 times. He's played guitar for 55 years and Duane is his all-time favorite.
New Haven College. That goes back a ways. I didn't even know they had a hall that could do a concert back then. It was mostly SNET employees getting degrees paid for by the company. Now they are University of New Haven. My dad graduated from New Haven College and my daughter graduated from UNH.
Back then for $2.00 I got to see J Geils, Brewer and Shipley (One toke over the line, sweet Jesus) and McEndry Spring. A friend knew the piano player for J Geils and we got to sit under the piano, on stage and passed a pipe full between us and the piano player. What a great concert. The Fillmore East was legendary for great rock concerts AND lots of stoners. My father grew up on Long Island and he and his friends went to see an unbelievable amount of great shows there (Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane, The Who, The Doors, the Allman Brothers and on and on), and the party started while you were standing in line outside with people openly toking or taking acid. I went to see the Allman Brothers every time they played at the Beacon Theater on Broadway, which they did for several nights in a row from 1992-2010. Some of those shows I can’t recall too well because I was so baked, the cloud of smoke in that place looked like a smog alert. People would also hand out acid. I only tripped once when someone dosed my iced tea at a birthday party and didn’t tell me, it was so horrific I never wanted to do it again. Acid wasn’t really necessary at an Allman Brothers show because it was already a psychedelic experience, especially with the light show they always had.
My father saw the Allman Brothers one time in the 70’s and Gregg Allman passed out two songs into the show and had to be carried offstage, Dickie Betts took over vocals and it was still one incredible show.
Greg Allman(vocals, organ) was a force of nature. It's great to see these reactions and watch the music I grew up loving being found by a new generation. Keep it up! P.S. I was also a rapper for 25yrs, but rock never left me.
The original is legend... Also again in 1990 when Warren Haynes joined... Then again in '99 when Derek trucks joined. Sad Duane passed so young.

The two drummers put powerful drive into the music. The singer was Greg All man and he was on keyboards. His brother Duane Allman was a guitar god and Dickie Betts was a fine player in his own right.

Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd are the epitome of the BEST SOUTHERN ROCK. Unfortunately, music like this doesn't exist anymore.
This band was one of my Dads favourites growing up. Of course I didn't really click with this band until actually their 1990 album Seven Turns which was considered their comeback album, still what a great band even though I started with their later material I went back to check out their 60s and 70s work and boy those are classics and untouchable. ONE WAY OUT has to be your next song from them. Live in Fillmore East 1970. This song had kinda bad audio. One Way Out, Greg Allman the singer really belts out that raspy gritty voice.

As someone who saw the original band live and has been listening to them for 50 plus years, I can tell you your next choice should come from their live album called,"at Fillmore East". It is considered by many as the best live blues album ever recorded. Whipping post which you just heard is also on that album and in my opinion considered the best version. The album I'm talking about was recorded between March 12th and 14th 1971. I believe most if not all of the songs on the live album that I mentioned came from the 13th and 14th. It's a double album that carried over to the next album,"eat a peach".
The band had six members: Duane Allman, lead guitar and slide lead guitar plus unofficial leader of band; Richard "Dickey" Betts, lead guitarist, songwriter, singer; Gregg Allman, singer, songwriter, Hammond B3 organ; Berry Oakley, bass player (x lead guitarist), Jai Johansson, drums and percussion and Butch trucks, drums. During the three nights of this concert at the Fillmore East they had a 7th player, a good friend on harmonica, Thom Doucette.
Well, there's a brief history. Now, may I make a suggestion for your next Allman Brothers song. My choice would be "you don't love me" off of the live album, "at Fillmore East".
I think I'd go with "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" next. All are worthy of review though.

SOME RANDOM FACTS: At the time this concert was recorded, singer/organist Gregg Allman was 23 years old and big brother Duane on lead guitar was 24. The show seen here was released as the double LP set _At Fillmore East_ in August 1971. That album catapulted the Allman Brothers Band to immediate superstardom and was certified gold just a few weeks later on October 15. Exactly 14 days after that, a month before his 25th birthday, Duane Allman died in a motorcycle wreck in Macon, Georgia 10/29/1971. Bassist Berry Oakley, who was 22 in this video, died a year later in a motorcycle wreck on the same street. Not positive but I believe the two drummers were the oldest members and both were 26 in this video; Butch Trucks, the long-haired drummer, is the uncle of present-day slide guitar master Derek Trucks.
And Derek is a genius and he and his wife Susan Tedeschi form their own band today, the Tedeschi-Trucks band. NOT TO BE MISSED.

Another vote for "One Way Out". There are *plenty* of incredible recordings of these guys. They were another seminal jam band and they were taped a lot. Don't make the mistake of trying to pigeon hole this band either. They're not just "Southern Rock". They're not just "Blues". They incorporate a lot of different influences in their music.

I love me some Allman Bros. In the mountains I grew up with them. You should check out Lynyrd Skynyrd as well. The singer/writer is outta this world good. Try a standard like "Simple Man"; "Sweet Home Alabama"; or the more obscure "Mississippi Kid". Keep the journey going, dude. They're not Pink Floyd, but Southern Blues Rock with a killer piano player (Billy Powell) 5 lead guitar players, they are an experience you need to have. You won't regret it.

Did you actually see this video? There were obviously 2 drummers and you say THE drummer. You say you heard some keyboards, they showed Greg Allman playing the keyboards. Like your reactions but??? (they also showed the bass player)

As for rock vs. rap. Way too many of my fellow old people are utter hypocrites about it. We were constantly told by our elders that our music was nothing but noise. How dare they say the same thing about the music of today's kids. I remember being told over and over that the Beatles were "noise" and that they had "no talent."
