The repetitive, deep-deep bass is hypnotizing! You Want it to keep going even after the song is over. It just builds and builds, it conditions the listener, takes you deeper and deeper into the guitar, into your thoughts. It provides a dark background to David's soaring, soul-piercing solos.

Pink Floyd was one of the most creative bands in history and their sound is unique. The talent level of the members of this band was off the charts. This is real music performed at a level that will never happen again. They combined their incredible music with spectacular theatrical and lighting effects that made it a unique experience for the audience. The people were mesmerized. They were one of the best live bands you can ever see. It was not just a concert..it was a sensory experience. This particular album (the dark side of the moon) is iconic. every song leads into the next and is one incredible experience...smoke a blunt...put on your headphones and sit back and close your eyes..it takes you to another place....lol

My darling pickled herring, you smiled throughout the entire length of a song about war, rape and murder. It never hurts to witness a smile, I suppose. Nice to go to the Human Zoo today and see a happy person. About Keith and this song: he plays ALL the guitars on Gimme Shelter, in fact he plays nearly all the guitars on the entire record, Let It Bleed as well as Beggars Banquet. NOW…you admit to knowing little about The Stones, however, you have something called ‘rockmusicpodcast’? It should be noted that The Stones are well regarded as the very foundation of modern Rock n Roll, you know that which you have a podcast about? And, they have always been a group of five until Bill Wyman, the traitor, left and Charlie died. Of course, Mick and Keith are pivotal. Ron Wood joined in the mid 70s to fill in for chicken shit Mick Taylor who ran off squealing like a stuck pig into the night. It should be noted that Taylor has a ‘purdy mouf’. Thank you for your time.

Thanks for supporting your son Mom. I knew this music would stand the test of time and I can't tell you how happy I am to see your son go against the grain in this age of intense peer pressure. You did a great job. Not to discount your character Son! lol. You and I would get along just fine despite our immense age difference. Keep up your drive and stay true to your heart...nothing but success will come to you. God Bless.

I bought my first Pink Floyd album in 1969 (Ummagumma) and saw them live in 1971 and 4 more times after that. For me This is the BEST band of all times. Now I'm 71 years old and still listen to them everyday.

It is spiritual...2 paths to choose, piper to sway you, good vs evil, to be a rock (stand tall) and not a roll (go with the flow) trees will then echo with laughter (angels) celebrating your new awareness...choose wisely, God be with you.

The Golden Age of Rock which I lived through is sacrosanct. I was one of the lucky ones to live through it. I am 81 year white chick who is still 27 years old inside my head. When you see older in the stores don't judge a book by its' cover. That will be you someday.

I am enjoying your reaction as I am on the same trip at the moment :) Have just discovered them in my 46 and hell I´m enjoying it... Live performances are the best imo. So glad there are live records available. For example to see the sounds in the middle are produced by Jimmy Page playing his electric guitar with a violin bow. Incredible... Not mentioning Robert Plant´s vocals and the whole sex act the band was performing with their instruments on the stage.... simply fabulous.

Led Zeppelin (and the Cream to give credit where the credit is due) is a proto-heavy metal. Black Sabbath sound is a Zeppelin/Cream sound. They have basically defined the whole soundscape of the heavy metal genre while still being considered as "hard rock". Anyway, they never played the same song twice the same. That´s their power. Improvisation, synergy, raw talent explored to its boundaries and brought to fruition. Check live versions of some of their songs, you will appreciate them even more knowing there is a lot of on spot improvisations in them. I have discovered LZ just a few weeks ago being 46 and listening to rock, punk and metal of all genres. Even hip hop, rap and other stuff. My personal music archive in my head is pretty vast and now after avoiding LZ for 30 years I finally know why. I would not enjoy all the heavy metal songs that much. None of them is better than their perfect prototype. Not that music is football, anyway. Like LZ being Pele or Messi of music :) Thanks heaven it does not work like that, lol. Even though if you took all 300 million sold LZ albums on a vinyl record they would make it more than twice round the Earth :) Just saying. Anyway, LZ reminds me how music is all about live performance in the first place. Harmony of artistic passion and skill. There are more bands and artists like LZ and I feel like exploring them is now my new direction :). Music of all genres is fun and Led Zeppelin are great.

It was mostly teens and people in their early twenties listening to this music, searching for an alternative to the lives they were expected to conform to. Teen boys Knew that soon after they graduated highschool, they would go to Vietnam, and many of us Feared Losing Our Souls...the music offered alternative lifestyles, some good, some bad, but at least they were Our Decision....

Loved your reaction. This song is at the pinnacle of Rock. Suggestion: LIsten to the recording of Like a Rolling Stone by Dylan---and look over the lyrics BEFORE you play it. Great song as well.
