    Nice video but I’m surprised you did not mention RRK and the D-RTK 2 base station as part of the DJI mapping/modeling ecosystem because it is a very important component even if it is not mandatory to use. I hope for your 3D will mention it. Thanks and keep up the good work!

      He left out a lot. It wasn't exactly true when he said...
      "That's pretty much it, that's everything you need to know about making a map from start to finish".
      Mapping/ photogrammetry is a whole lot deeper than this quick overview.

    Hi Billly, interesting video. I do recreational 2D & 3D mapping using my DJI Mini 3 and Air 2s for very low to no cost. I use Map Pilot Pro to do the missions and then use WebODM to do the photo stitching and mapping. What's nice about using the Mini 3 with Plus battery is the long flight time without needing to switch out batteries.

    Hey Billy thanks for showing us a bit of your work, and helps us to understand the process behind the project.
    I just have one question, do you need to have any base station to do that? liike Emlid? or DJI RtK 2? Or other brands?
    Or you have used a free or paid NTrip in your area?..As you haven’t mentioned about the accuracy,
    Or this type of job it’s just high quality photos to inspect the site, and see daily updates?

    Hi Billy
    I'm kind of beginner in search and rescue team.
    We have DJI M30T drone and I was wondering is it possible to do mapping with it.
    We used it before only for search and rescue training and missions, but couple of day before we had a landslide in nearby city and we would like to map the all that pile of material that collapsed on the properties of some people.
    Is it possible with M30T?

    We do a lot of 3d and 2d for clients. Recently though a realtor asked if we could make it work for MLS. Which is the program that all realtors in Minnesota upload to. There cannot be any links to outside sites ie dji 3d viewer etc. Do you or anyone else know how to share a model with no outside links?

    The DJI eco system makes it convenient and there is no compromise in quality, the only drawback is cost. Starting with the online/desktop version of the pilot 2 program and cost of Terra puts it just out of reach for average users and many small businesses.

    • @londenard
      @londenard 6 месяцев назад

      $4000 Dray? That seems like a reasonable investment to me... I'm pretty sure the Pilot2 app is free... Terra used to be free, so I downloaded it back in the day. Never used it though... hahaha!

    • @londenard
      @londenard 6 месяцев назад

      @@RecoveryoneDrone Okay... We are obviously discussing different things. I downloaded everything when it was free. I just pulled up Flight Hub 2 on my computer. No charge. DJI Terra- No charge. So I guess I'm not sure what you mean when you say "Pilot 2 desktop version"... I can't even find that. However, you're kinda talking from both sides... Is that software "necessary" to do mapping missions? It is not. It's easier to set them up on a computer, for sure. I just did one as a trial. It's not necessary though. My point was you could buy the M3E and a year of Terra for $4000. That's not a lot of money to start a business. That's my only point. I have no idea why you and some others are trying to make it seem like it is. I know guys that have spent FAR more money to become mechanics in schooling and tools. It costs more to become a certified welder...

    I saw this one it came out and then I dug into the specs. I don’t have the money to buy an Enterprise DJI drone. I have an Air2S that works pretty well. But like you said… You have to go through hoops to make it work. In my opinion, it sucks both ways. I can’t even use my MAVIC Pro 3 to do mapping. I just want pretty pictures… I could care less about mapping.
    I wonder if DJI’s mapping software works on an M1 with BootCamp?

    Hey Billy is there a way to get GPS coordinates from the Air 2s ?

    • @Quickcat21MK
      @Quickcat21MK 6 месяцев назад +1

      I asked chatgpt and this is what it wrote;
      Yes, you can get GPS coordinates from the DJI Air 2S. The drone records GPS data for photos and videos, which can be accessed in several ways:
      ### Using DJI Fly App
      1. **Flight Records**: After flying, you can check the flight records in the DJI Fly app, which includes GPS coordinates for the entire flight path.
      2. **Photo/Video Metadata**: GPS coordinates are embedded in the metadata of the photos and videos taken by the drone. You can access this information through the DJI Fly app by viewing the details of each media file.
      ### Using DJI Assistant 2
      1. Connect your DJI Air 2S to your computer using a USB cable.
      2. Open the DJI Assistant 2 software.
      3. Download the flight logs from the drone, which include GPS coordinates.
      ### Accessing Metadata
      1. **On Your Computer**:
      - Transfer the photos/videos from the drone to your computer.
      - Right-click on the file and select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac).
      - Go to the "Details" tab (Windows) or "More Info" section (Mac) to view the GPS coordinates.
      2. **Using Third-Party Software**:
      - Software like Adobe Lightroom, GeoSetter, or similar photo management tools can read and display GPS metadata from your photos and videos.
      By using these methods, you can easily retrieve the GPS coordinates recorded by your DJI Air 2S.

      The GPS and consumer devices is not very accurate. Could be off by 10 feet.
      This is why people who do mapping use RTK, PPK and other GNSS tools that cost a lot of money.
      The driving apps in our phone are deceiving. They know where the roads are and they just assume that since we're driving in a car, we're on the road.
      At times I've noticed that when I take a fork the app will show my location on the original road for quite a while before it realizes that I'm a 100 feet away on the other road that forked off.
      The accuracy can vary a lot depending on several factors but consumer devices don't even bother consider accuracy.

      Have you seen the prices of competitors like DroneDeploy? You’re looking at spending $4,000+ per year just on software.

    • @londenard
      @londenard 6 месяцев назад +1

      Yea, how dare a corporation endeavor to make money! I'm guessing you donate your services for free, right?
      Dji Terra is $450 per year, and the Mavic 3 Enterprise is about $3600. Compared to Drone Deploy, you could get both the drone and a license for around the same money. Not to mention that you also get "Care Refresh-ish" included in the price of the drone. For awhile, Terra was free when you purchased the M3E but you snooze, you lose! If you can't invest $4000 in a turn key business, you aren't really serious.
      Frankly speaking, just a few decent mapping jobs will pay for this combo.

    • @RecoveryoneDrone
      @RecoveryoneDrone 6 месяцев назад +1

      @londenard the point is what is cost effective, not every mapping job will require you to provide the end product. Most often you are the data collector uploading the photos to a client's server for them to process. But you still have to pay for the subscriptions monthly. DJI's pricing is right there with everyone else's, bur again from a business stand point you go where things are cost effective. I just spent 7k on a GNSS setup, it will pay for itself by the end of the year as I secured a bi-monthly assurance of work that it will be needed. That is how cost effectiveness works, not spend and see.

    • @JAerialServices
      @JAerialServices 6 месяцев назад

      @@billykyle Yes I have seen them and I'm not a fan of the subscription based model although I'm sure it works ok for some. Those fees are outrageous! I would rather spend my money on great software that I can use to process my images in house.
