Nice, I enjoy seeing ways people are using drone data. There is so much more to do with drones than media, would be fun to watch a larger scale, longer term mission.
Billy, a subscriber and a fan. Just ran across this on UAV Coach. Given that this relates directly to your work, what do you know and think about this, it's potential for spreading, and the potential major impact? "Surveyors in North Carolina are worried about drone pilots encroaching on their work. So much so that they say any georeferenced image or output made using a drone and sold to a client-whether it’s a photo, a 2D map, or a 3D map-would be considered surveying without a license."
Great allround introduction to using this mapping software. I've been asked to create an ‘orthomosaic’ image of a conservation scheme here in the UK & DroneDeploy seems the best choice albeit a tad pricey for a one off project. Thanks for explaining how to use this software - even that the drone returns to home for a battery switch if the flight needs more than one battery, I couldn't find that info ANYWHERE!
Even if you showed up at the mission site with your phone, and then setup a map plan, using dronedeply on your mobile device, wouldn't you still be looking at the same map views that you would see, if you created the map plan with your desktop computer back at the home office? Just making sure I am not missing something.
Hey Billy, thank you for this excellent overview and tutorial for using DroneDeploy. Yes, DroneDeploy need to get on top of their programming for the newer drones. I'll be looking out for your next Mapping video in 3D. Thanks again!
This is def more tailored towards business aviation than individual/ personal use. 399/month is (yes a tax write off) but waaaay too steep for the average user. Glad there is a 14 day trial.
Geez, why isnt the Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced compatible with Drone Deploy? Its better than the M2EZ and the M2ED, and is a great alternative to the M3E and M3T. Its an iconic enterprise drone, but isn’t compatible with Drone Deploy? It seems like it should be.
How do you cycle back and see how piles have changed over time? I've flown my soil property twice 1 week apart and would love to know how to do this. Thanks!
@@billykyle Thank you Billy. I found out I was uploading my flights as separate maps/projects instead of uploading new flights within my existing one so once I did I was able to see the comparison images from week to week. Great tool!
@@billykyle Thanks for the info! Which drone model this year 2024 meets the following requirements In order not to pay many thousands for it. A 3 x 3 Km2 area can be mapped stably (during the day) and to create maps without any problems. So that the control takes place with the head display (perhaps I don't need it, but when I'm in the meadow it's troublesome for me to look at my phone or tablet.). With the ability to broadcast the screen to a partner in real time? I ordered a Chinese drone, but I see that it has a control distance of 1.2 km. And I began to doubt whether it would be able to map the area in reality. Are those Chinese semi-rigid drones capable of mapping anything?
Just curious about using the Drone Deploy app and having an issue with the drone either flying away or just getting carried away by wind. The reason I ask is in my area we have coal mining and the local mines has a guy come around and use his drone to map out the area. And he lost his drone it was an Air 2s he said the wind just carried it away. Which the day it happened I didn’t fly because the UAV forecast was showing winds at 20 mph and gusts of 35 mph. So I don’t fly in severe weather conditions. But he was on top of the mountain which would’ve been much worse with the strong winds. So if you are using the drone deploy app and lose your drone can you track it in the app or will the find my drone still work in the dJI fly app? It’s been over 2 months since the incident and he never did find the drone. I didn’t speak with him directly I have friends and family members who also work at the mine site. I told them I would bring a drone down and see if I could spot it doing a fly over. But I was just wondering what could be done when using a 3rd party app?
Question: I’m trying to upgrade from my Mavic 1 Pro (yikes, I know). I am totally stuck between the Air 2S or the Mavic 3 Classic. The Mavic obviously has the upper hand in flight time, camera quality, and obstacle avoidance, but to have the option to do autonomous mapping with the Air 2S just feels like it is potentially worth having if I decide to do so. I want to start in real estate photography/videography but can't decide if the slightly decreased camera is worth leaving the possibility to pursue photogrammetry if possible. Please help!
I use the Air 2S for construction videography and stills photography here in the UK. I upgraded from the Mavic Air. It's a great drone, the images are pin sharp and the 4K video usable for my clients in their productions. The 1" sensor is outstanding. I've even been holding off buying the Mavic Air 3 pro because I consider the Air 2S still suitable for what I'm asked to produce. When you factor in the cost of filters and extra batteries, it sometimes is not worth upgrading for the sake of upgrading.

He Billy,
any good alternative for Dji Mini 4 Pro? Like a software doing the flying automatically with DJI mini 4 pro
Great video! I used Drone Deploy 20 years ago and I have to say they have a come a LONG way!
Cool
Great video. Is it free for personal use? $329 individual subscription is high for just messing around.
Yeah - most mapping software is fairly pricey. They have a free trial if you want to give it a swing.
Hey Jason, I thought the same thing when i first looked into it, I found some free options if youre interested in finding out what they are.
@@PhoDro1which they are I’m interested

Am I reading their site right? The cheapest pricing they have is $329 a month billed annually so roughly $4,000 a year?
Yup its a commercial piece of software
Hey Billy, first of all great Video. Secondly have you used the RTK module and the base station, if so can you make a video. Thanks

I loved Drone Deploy but it got to be way too expensive for individuals!
Yeah it has gotten a bit pricey. Although they have added a lot of great functionality to justify it if you use it for business.
Great video! Would Mavic 3 Consumer series ever have SDK released? Filthy DJI forces us to go for Enterprise versions which costs far more 😑
Unfortunately DJI has made it clear, only Enterprise drones will have SDKs released. It also appears DJI may be slowly leaving Apple product support.

Thanks Steve! Always look forward to your comments and insight 🙌🏼
Great video Billy. I’ve had fun playing around with Drone Deploy but as others have said, it’s very expensive.
Yeah the price certainly has gone up
my question is, is there any jobs available?
Question for anyone. It might sound funny but what exactly are you loading the mission to?

What if you are in the middle of the desert and no cell data available? How do you send the flight plan?
Home run Billy! Any idea if more DJI models will see a SDK released?
Thank you! I don't think we will see SDK support unfortunately 😔
Billy should I use this to capture just one top down image for Client [ not larger than 10 acres plot] - for Real Estate work?
Hi Billy how to use drone deploy on Dji rc controller
You can’t install 3rd party apps on the RC

I would like to know how you make the air3 get sufficient pictures for upload and how well It turns out
It works really well. I just fly manual and upload the photos later.
How do you cycle back and see how piles have changed over time? I've flown my soil property twice 1 week apart and would love to know how to do this. Thanks!
At the top of the map there is an arrow to cycle between dates (when in the explore section)

This works only with DJI Mavic 3?!
All enterprise drones

Nah I haven't experienced a flyaway. It is good software.
What version would you say I should get a small shop just starting?
Just start with the cheapest option.

Which DJI drone? Some dont work with 3rd party apps like the DJI M3C.
Seems i asked this question before finishing the video :-)
Hahaha no worries
Which app your using for 2d map creation
DroneDeploy
Drone Deploy is just way to expensive. Had a license for 1 year and couldn’t make any money off of the maps😢
Yeah it’s definitely built for commercial use. Not someone that wants to make a map every once in a while.
@billykyle for someone who is Part 107 and trying to get a business going, its crazy expensive. They need to have a starter plan for that situation.
@@richodphoto Try - MapsMadeEasy, way cheaper.
