If you had the ends staked out pulling the ends outward then the center of the cross beam would withstand considerably more weight without folding in on itself.
Hey mate, it’s a pretty good mattress as far as air mattresses go. There is not other cushioning other then air so it will feel pretty normal. It’s got a lot of depth once inflated which does allow you to sink in a bit. Overall pretty good

Is the mattress just a cheap basic inflatable mattress, or is it a bit more premium? How is it to sleep on?

Yeah mate, unplug the valve and it all deflated very quickly!
How long did it take to pump it up ?
