Assieme a Johnny Griffin uno dei tenori più virtuosi di tutti i tempi e unico nell'uso dei superacuti anche usati in scala e non di picco.Inimitabile il suo timbro specialmente nei toni bassi. Il mio sassofonista preferito.
Ed Thigpen was great also alone, there's a video-lesson by him on YT, he was a great master. As for Lockjaw Davis with the Grateful Dead I'm very doubtful, you know, after Woodstock the S.Francisco era etc., jazz economy was collapsed more than ever.
ONE of the BEST ! Jazz giants ever ( what sax tones this man produced , fabulous ) cheers to you & to your " memory .

Pigpen. That was the name of a Grateful Dead keyboarder.
Lockjaw D would have been great with the Dead as well.
Who, Lockjaw Davis or Ed Thigpen?
Excuse me, I did not get it. What do you mean?
Atze obviously means the Grateful Dead.
Its funny, but "Jaws" voice sounds a lot like his longtime tenor buddy,Johnny Griffin.
So you can play that high note at the end, but you can't play in tune all the time.
He fucked it up at the end, but the rest was superb.
Bollocks, Jaws is one of the greatest tenor sax players to ever have lived..
@@kafenwar One sour note is at 3:04......Even great players are off sometimes.....
