  • For decades the towering marble edifice that is the Washington, D.C. Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has posed a mystery to those outside the faith. Now, after a major renovation, CBS News' Ed O'Keefe takes a tour inside the temple, before a public open house that will welcome all to visit a building dedicated to reverence and contemplation.

There’s only one way to be saved. One way to heaven and its not through mormon or Catholic ( I was Catholic for almost 50 years) and not through any other religion!!!
Read the Bible, he massage of gospel is so simple that for many, apostle Paul said, becomes
      as a stumbling block.
We are saved by grace through faith and nothing else.
If we add anything else to that,
it is not the gospel of Jesus Christ, and therefore if it’s not THE GOSPEL but it is the false gospel.
Grace is getting what we don’t deserve , it is unmerited favor, and it means we don’t do anything in the process to obtain it.
We just simply receive it by faith.
The covenant , the promise of our redemption is based on what the Lord did, not what we do ,
therefore even if we sin God won’t break his promise to us ,because it was never conditional, it was never based on what we do, but only on what Jesus did for our salvation.
      That is grace!
      We don’t deserve it.
      We don’t work for it.
We don’t work to keep the grace,
      It’s free gift, unmerited.
Ether you hold on to your own righteousness or to Jesus righteousness. Which is it?
      Ephesians 2:8
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.
      FAITH ALONE
      Ephesians 2:9
Not of works, lest any man should boast.
      Galatians 5:4
Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace

Hi Scott, if someone else considers something sacred, whether I agree with them or not, I like to treat it with respect and reverence. I love Jesus Christ and believe with all my heart that He is the Son of God, the Savior of the World. I hope others will respect that. I don't believe in all the tenets of Islam. However, I have a copy of the Koran, and I treat it with respect. I treat my Muslim friends with respect. I respect Hijabs and strive to understand why they are worn. I respect the great sacrifices it takes to fast during Ramadan and make pilgrimages to Mecca, even if I don't make the pilgrimage my self. I'm not Catholic, but I respect the sacrifices made at lent. I don't honor canonized saints like Catholics do, but I respect that they do; I understand it's sacred to them. I'm not Buddhist, but I'd never deface or disrespect (with my deeds or words) a statue of Buddha.
I have in turn, in large measure, received much respect from my Muslim, Catholic, and Buddhist friends. I appreciate that respect, even while they disagree or consider my beliefs as nonsense.
The hosts and staff of CBS may not believe in the Book of Mormon. They may not share the tenets of my faith, but I'm grateful they respected what I hold as sacred.

I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed." (Galatians 1:6-10)
What is the true Gospel? The son of God sacrificed Himself to atone for all the sins of man. He fulfilled the law and through faith in Him we can be justified before God.
"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast."(Ephesians 2:8-9)
We are completely saved and justified by faith in Christ and our faith and love and appreciation to Christ for this eternal salvation causes us to do good works- those are the evidence of our salvation not the basis of it. We are saved as a result of God's mercy and grace.
"Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them."(Hebrews 7:25)
"But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law."(Romans 3:21-28)

@@michaeldenova4562 Joseph Smith and every LDS prophet since him have preached a gospel of “do,” negating the gospel of “done” that Jesus preached and was. The LDS church is all about what it and its members must still do and be if they want to live with God (and be a god) one day.
The true church is all about proclaiming what Christ has DONE to make us right with God now for all eternity. It’s a certainty.
Jesus Christ canceled the record of debt that was held against us. All you need to do is accept Christ by faith. It isn't because of who you are and what you must and can do for God. It is because of who He is and what He did for you in sending Jesus to be the sacrificial offering for your sins. To be your substitute on the cross and to satisfy the demands of God's law that stands against you.
Christ has done the one work that was necessary to reconcile you to God. Christ has done the one act of righteousness that could bring justification and life to all men. All Christ is asking with open arms is for you to lay down your religiosity and works at the foot of the cross and allow Christ to take it.
      Salvation is quite simple.
Luke 18 And He also told this parable to some people who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and viewed others with contempt:
10 “Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.
11 The Pharisee stood and was praying this to himself: ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other people: swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.
12 I fast twice a week; I pay tithes of all that I get.’
13 But the tax collector, standing some distance away, was even unwilling to lift up his eyes to heaven, but was beating his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, the sinner!’
14 I tell you, this man went to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

Jesus also commanded that Solomon build an incredibly opulent temple in which to worship God. It is a test of faith of His people. Jesus was perfect, and he was perfect so he could give his perfection to us as a gift. Consider the completed action in this Scripture: For by a single offering he [Jesus] has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified (Hebrews 10:14).
Lucifer says, “Make you aprons.” In effect, do some of it yourself-it’s the only way to preserve some semblance of pride, dignity, and self-respect, and to gain for yourself what you need. That is quite consistent with the instructions every Latter-day Saint is given before going through the temple endowment ceremony.

Jesus said, “It is finished” (John 19:30). In effect, “I’ve done it for you, all of it. Now are you willing to humble yourself enough to simply take it?”

Joseph Smith and every LDS prophet since him have preached a gospel of “do,” negating the gospel of “done” that Jesus preached and was.
It isn't because of who you are and what you have done for God.

    Jesus divides people and families.
Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn ‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law - a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’ (Mat 10:34-36)
The God of truth (Isa. 65:16) is the God of the Bible. Since truth divides, then Jesus would naturally divide his followers away from those who reject and hate God’s truth, even one’s natural family members. Remember, Jesus divides families:
Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.” (Luke 12:51-53)
Those same truth rejecters become enemies to the truth lovers as they resist and persecute the follower of Jesus.
To be worthy of Jesus and eternal life, one must side with God’s truth even though it divides his own family.

      @zachgarver7922 Год назад +1

I have a better answer. I don't know if temple sealed mormons have a higher divorce rate than other faiths or the general population. I do know that the stresses in a typical LDS marriage are quite often unique. One has to understand the LDS culture, but in short, at 18 and 19 year old young people are strongly encouraged, today not unfair to say "obligated" to go on a two year mission, at least for young men, where they are under extraordinary supervision and control. You then immediately get married, certainly within a year, and promptly start making babies. So think about it. Eternity is a space time concept that humans can't fully even comprehend, but the culture has you marrying someone...anyone so long as they are a returned missionary and otherwise fit the temple bill but typically were acquainted with for only a relatively short time, for eternity. When you come to understand how cultishly controlling this religion is, it actually makes perfect sense. Get the young people committed before they go off and start exploring their youth and sexuality, and keep them committed.

What "other Christian faiths"? There's ONE Christian faith, as taught in the Bible. LDS is not biblical. It's an entirely different religion. That's why Joseph Smith founded it.
From the official LDS site, under the section, JOSEPH SMITH-HISTORY:
18 My object in going to inquire of the Lord was to know which of all the sects was right, that I might know which to join. No sooner, therefore, did I get possession of myself, so as to be able to speak, than I asked the Personages who stood above me in the light, which of all the sects was right (for at this time it had never entered into my heart that all were wrong)-and which I should join.
19 I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt; that: “they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof.”

I learnt about several different religions and denominations, but I was indifferent to all of them until I encountered the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I find it hard to deny the miraculous spiritual connection I have felt with this Church, or the extensive and convincing evidence of the the Book of Mormon's historicity that I have discovered. I feel a passion here that I have never felt before. My mind has been made up. I know this to be the true Church of Christ.
But what makes my testimony feel even convincing is that I never have and still do not harbour any resentment towards the faith I have left behind (contrary to the stories I have heard from several other converts). My conversion had nothing to do with me disliking Traditionalist Catholicism, but everything to do with me falling in love with the LDS Church. My behaviour and lifestyle have also improved since I discovered this Church to be true. I am sinning less often, living healthier, and treating others with more kindness. No views of the Anointing rooms where in your secret sacred Mormon underwear only you are touched with oil by male only high priests and non ordained women to receive blessings of numerous children, among other things.

    • @astrangerhere
      @astrangerhere 2 года назад +1

The in-person tour does include views of the endowment rooms (at least it has in all the open houses I've been to in Utah, so I'm sure it will here.) The word "economically" is not used in the ceremony. Members do covenant to give "all" to build up the kingdom of God, establish Zion, and support the church of which they are a part. All of this has biblical references. Jesus referenced building up his church, he constantly talked about the "kingdom of God" and the idea of Zion as "New Jerusalem" is found heavily in the book of Revelation. Hence, the covenant is to do as he commanded (but it does not specify precisely how the individual is to do this in their own life, and zero reference is made to giving any money. It's between the individual and God.)
If we eliminate your intentional use of shock-words, it can be explained that it's actually NO "secret" that Mormons are given a special garment to wear as underclothing throughout their life. Might it interest you to know that our English word "atonement" is derived from the ancient Hebrew word "kaphar," which means "to cover?" Thinking about that in relation to the atonement of Jesus Christ shouldn't take one very long to get the idea the the garment is yet another symbol of him. There is no mention in the ceremony of the First Presidency or Twelve Apostles or obedience to them. A covenant of obedience to GOD is made, but that covenant was actually already made at baptism. And another topic Jesus had a lot to say about. No one exemplified this covenant more than he did.
How beautiful it is to be anointed before God. References to this can be found all throughout the Bible. Your phraseology is obviously intended to imply that there is something dubious going on, but nothing could be further from the truth. Over 20 years I performed these ordinances in 20+ temples all over the US and everything was ALWAYS done in good taste, with respect and reverence for the individual, the one for whom the work was being done, and the person's body. There is so, so much that can be learned from the temple experience but without a desire for such some people will continue to not understand it, and instead of trying to learn, coming back again, asking questions (you can talk to the President of the temple if you are concerned about something -- I did so on several occasions,) they will intentionally misrepresent or exaggerate things to give the impression it is something it is not.

@@astrangerhere in 1977 when I was anointed in the Oakland California USA temple, an elderly high priest touched my groin going so far to cup my testicles. I was a naive 19 year old Mormon convert and deeply closeted gay teen. At that time the washing and anointing was done completely nude except for the “shield” (poncho) covering. I was traumatized and confused. I nearly left Mormonism after “ taking out my endowment” since it was so foreign to my previous 4 years of Mormon ward and stake experiences.
Also at that time the vow and covenant was to give “all” to the Kingdom of God on earth as defined as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was commonly understood and taught over the pulpit to be a financial matter. As in right now we pay tithes and offerings, (minimal 10% of income) but if asked by the prophets and apostles the law of consecration (giving all income to the church, as they tried in 1830s Ohio and Missouri).
You may not be aware of all of the temple ceremonies alterations done in the 1990s and previously. It’s worth researching. At the time I vowed and covenanted in the Oakland temple in 1977, there were punishments attached to the vows and punishments (that my throat would be sliced, that my bowels would be cut open if I did not live up to the promises, or if I shared the secrets of the temple to others, even other members). So again, quite traumatic for a naive teen.
You could research the number of young women and men who had horrible negative experiences with the Mormon temple endowment and sealing ceremonies, especially before, but not exclusively, the 1990s.
It’s all been altered to be more acceptable to most people. Just as the CBS fluff piece was made acceptable to most people by the PR department of the LdS church corporation (Bonneville Communications).

Yeah… during these times of great suffering the church is pouring money into building more and more and more elaborate, gold plated, great and spacious buildings. They justify this by saying it is in preparation for all of the temple work to be done in the millennium (which is “nigh at hand”) and that there are all of these individuals trapped in spirit prison who can’t get out until there temple work is completed. Even if that is the case, I seriously doubt those in spirit prison are suffering the pangs of starvation and trying to endure life threatening conditions like those within this earthly realm. The humanitarian efforts of the church are embarrassingly minuscule when compared with the wealth the church has amassed and continues to rake in.
Jesus is not some narcissistic deity who delights in people building these elaborate temples dedicated to him, and church members spending their time dressed in all white and bowing down to him in these places. If he was, why would anyone want to reverence and worship someone like this? The ordinances could be carried out in dedicated sanctuaries that aren’t dripping and decorated in money. Hey Sally! So I may need many other peoples help on this, but I will try and answer. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints believes that everyone is equal and have the same rights. This is the case for men and women . Women do not serve men in the church. And it is almost recommended to have children to have more of gods children on the earth. So this is why many members will have one or multiple children. The young men and young women of the church are taught the same in most ways, treated the same, and get a lot of the same opportunities. One role of a women or young women in the church is to serve others. This may be why you think they serve men. But they are encouraged to do service for others, help each other, and many more things like that.
