How can anyone who has the ability of hearing and some understanding of music ignore, that GG was and is the most profound group in contemporary music!
I like this better than the original in some ways. Love that they are staying so true but adding their own personalities. My new favorite band. And, it is SO very , um, heart warming to see and hear Mortimer again and the great job he is doing, both in his general nuanced playing and in honoring the Weathers parts. Always loved his work.
Ken Ray Wilemon : I agree. Recording technology improvements make it possible to hear everything clearly; that wasn’t necessarily the case on lower end stereos when this came out, not that the drums were well mixed then. Plus, while I love the Weathers era band, this has a slightly different feel - perhaps a function of the music fermenting for years, of exposure to different music, and of new ways to play the instrument. And Malcolm killed this music. Those are not easy arrangements and I don’t see many charts up there. Bravissimo.
As a long term fan my loyalties are split. I sympathise with the Shulman brothers annoyance at their legacy getting borrowed, but this really is top notch stuff. And let's face it, this music deserves to be heard whenever and wherever possible. Thanks to all boys old and new in the band, please keep it coming!
It's human that the Shulmans feel disappointed about this band, but that is egoistic. The music is above all. Artists create artworks, but when they release them, they don't belong to them anymore, they belong to humanity. I would be happier if the Shulmans were in, but since they are not, long live Three Friends. I will surely go watch them if they come to Italy for a concert. When I was a fan of GG I was 14 and my mother did not allow me to go to concerts, so I lost that train.
good song from the last TRUE GG album: I can´t thank them (GG) enough..so many fantastic memories with the ínterview´ album (mild may air, the sun, the scent of the smoke of self rolled cigarettes and the taste of pernod/cola drinks...Three friends band understand well to transmit the souvenirs into the not so cozy presence of 2010 Hello to all GG lovers all around the world !
Didn't spot this one when it was first posted;- Electrifying performance guys, & the band is getting so tight now.. Consider this one well & truly nailed! More please, & then some more after that...
I've just heard this for the second time and I have to agree this is so much better than the original and I thought that was perfect. Vocals are brilliant.
She knows the streets where she walks Never were paved with gold Can't return But won't dream till she's old Leaving it soon behind City so cold And everyday now so long How could she have been so wrong And as the morning comes Shadows on her fall upon Walking crowded the streets She looked on Packs her case And tomorrow she's gone And everyday now so long How could she have been so wrong
I would really like to know who the musicians are (bassist, keyboardist and acoustic guitarist) and if there is more of this material recorded in what seems to me to be the residence of one of the musicians. If anyone knows about it, please reply to this...
The acoustic guitarist is Andy Williams. Mick Wilson is singing. It was recorded in Sussex England, I can’t recall the name of the studio. Lovely sound and visuals.
Dear Lord! Some of the best music ever created has got to be seriously credited to GG and these guys here are absolutely fantastic even without Kerry Minear and the Schulmans. Please keep it up for the sake of my mental well being in the midst of all this crap.
I’ve listened to all of your guys recordings, this one is just excellent. I actually think this tops the original recording. The verse vocal line sits out from the mix a bit more and it’s easier to hear it’s strong melody and in the chorus it grooves a lot more than the original. Such good work to be able to improve on a band that doesn’t need more improving haha really great!
Other than the obtuse nature of USA audiences in the 70s, I've often wondered why GG didn't wind up with the fame & fortune of Genesis or Yes? OK..."Gentle Giant" was a silly name. Their "logo" was silly. Their musical style was dense & unfamiliar. I hate to say it, but I wonder whether their weird appearance didn't hinder GG? People forget that ELP, Genesis, Yes...were all rather pretty lads in their youth.
People who are not used to listening to classical music (or jazz) are not used to counterpoint, and are confused by it. GG's music is loaded with counterpoint, which is a big reason why I love them. Most of the US audience does not listen to much classical music, and never "acquired a taste" (pun intended) for counterpoint. JMO.
The world needs this music desperately.
And more like it.
Amen to that...............So True!!!!!!
How can anyone who has the ability of hearing and some understanding of music ignore, that GG was and is the most profound group in contemporary music!
They were/are the greatest most criminally underated band ever
Best prog band EVER, I dont care what anyone says, this is what progressive means !!
Charlie Quinn I agree with with you a gazillion percent-the greatest and most underated band ever
the mighty quinn!!!!!
it really makes me happy that this wonderful music is performed live again and in a brilliant manner

😅😊
Eargasm achieved. Perfection - thank you Three Friends for keeping GG's music alive and in several cases improving. Quintessential progressive rock.
A beautifully written song played and recorded so well here. I had forgotten all about this tune. Thank you for bringing it back to life.

Faith in mankind restored.

Easily one of the greatest, most melodic and intriguing Gentle Giant songs ever.
Best band I missed while still touring. If you’re ever in Charleston SC I’m buying tickets for everyone I know!
This just might be my favorite GG song. Great rendition!
Great song, done with impeccable detail - and honestly - it's not bad to hear someone else sing it.
I've always loved Empty City and felt that it was a greatly underrated song among GG fans.
one of my favourite!
Enchanting, poetic, lyrical...thank you, guys. And Mick's voice has a fine magic of its own...I just can't get enough of your music.
I've always loved this song, my favourite cut from the last truly great album by Gentle Giant - ῐn′terview.
Great audio in that very lo-key comfortable "funky Sussex studio" setting !
The music is very inspiring.
Great job, respect from Italy.
You really did a good version.

I just need one word to critique this:
AWESOME!
This is probably my favorite GG song.
Thank you for rendering such a great version of Empty City.
Mine too!
Didn't spot this one when it was first posted;- Electrifying performance guys, & the band is getting so tight now.. Consider this one well & truly nailed!
More please, & then some more after that...
Exquisite. This sounds vastly better than the original and Malcolm simply kills it.
I've just heard this for the second time and I have to agree this is so much better than the original and I thought that was perfect. Vocals are brilliant.
Best version of this song that I have heard. Thanks!
First time I ever heard this live. Love it. Wish I could find Giant doing it live, however I was told they never did it live.
Outstanding! Incredibly goood! 👌💖
Viva Le Three Friends, Viva Le Gentle Giant
She knows the streets where she walks
Never were paved with gold
Can't return
But won't dream till she's old
Leaving it soon behind
City so cold
And everyday now so long
How could she have been so wrong
And as the morning comes
Shadows on her fall upon
Walking crowded the streets
She looked on
Packs her case
And tomorrow she's gone
And everyday now so long
How could she have been so wrong

Great music making. Shame about the camera work - irritating
