I've been yearning for something that scratches the itch I have that can usually only scratched by Bach's organ preludes and fugues. I finally found it, Guilmant was a contrapunctual genius!

AMAZING!!! I have NEVER heard this piece before, but I was in tears by the time we reached the end. Excellent combination of music and organ. Klais instruments are my all-time favorite German organ.

This is an awesome piece of writing matched perfectly by a flawless interpretation and dazzling technique. Guilmant is rather out of fashion nowadays because, perhaps, his inspiration isn't consistently brilliant. This section of the 5th sonata is an exception and cam stand alone as a recital tour de force.

More than "nice ", I'd say. It proves that counterpoint can convey intense emotion when structured in this quasi symphonic way.

    • @jtoddmusic7090

It starts out that way, certainly (although in a different meter) but morphs into something else. I liked the subject.

    • @BernhardSchneider1309

As I know the melody of the chorale was newly invented by Guilmant, similar to C. Franck's Chorales.
