I have this ongoing- I call it disassociation. I am very functional with my career but then when work is over or the weekends come- absolute numbness, disassociation, dazing, confusion, and lack of purpose. I've made it a joke at this point that when my weekends come I might as well be in an asylum because it feels like absolute insanity. I could venture out to clubs events parties but I DONT. Time is strange to me- time just seems to fly by without me. The strange thing is after all these years of isolation- you would think I would have energy for days for a social interaction yet minor social interactions (like half a day out and about with a friend) is absolutely DRAINING.

I used to go into the freeze response, and my other sister did, but I've been doing a lot of introspection and inner work for a few years now so I stuck up for her and told them that we're too old to deal with the same bs that they put us through as children and not interested in having anything to do with them anymore. I was diagnosed with RA a few years ago which is an auto immune problem and wondering if this is how my body has dealt with so much "freezing" in response to trauma due to dealing with a narcissistic mother my entire life- I actually was caring for her for over 5 years after she was diagnosed with Alzheimers and it was the worst 5 years of my life - last year my narcissistic sister took her to another state to live with her saying it was her turn to care for her, it only lasted for 2 months before my sister put her in a home after getting POA over her entire estate- she promptly called me and said there would be no inheritance for me-lol, I told her I could honestly care less about the money but that she better make sure Mom was taken care of- they have both been out of my life for almost 7 months now (because I stopped ALL contact) and my RA is much better as is my attitude! Sometimes I get tempted to reach out to them then I think to myself, now why would I do that, they will only make me feel unloved and worthless! So, I don't, and life is SO much better. The other piece for me has been about forgiveness and not holding a grudge against them or anyone who has hurt me- I really am just letting it go and trusting God about everything. For the first time in my life, I really do feel love and accepted for who I am. That's because I found Jesus, accepted Him and believe in Him and read God's word every day now. Anything I need help with, I just ask the Holy Spirit and I am never alone because the Lord is with me always- He totally loves me! Amen!

    That was very well explained.
I had a uncle (not blood) that was very abusive. I didn't know at the time that he was a narcissist. But he was brutal. His wife and kids were terrified of him. His wife, my aunt even joined in in abusing their girls. I guess it was if you can't beat them, join them kind of thing. But everybody would be laughing one minute and one of the girls would say something completely innocent and piss off one of their parents and that got them a slap across the face. When my aunt did it, that startled me more than her husband ranting.
But he always hated it that I didn't cower down to him like his wife and kids did.
He hated it that I was never afraid of him. I'm not sure why, but I never was.
And when he came at me, I stayed very calm even at 9 years old and quietly took my little brother by the hand and left his house after he flipped him in the air and he landed on the couch. He was yelling at us as we were leaving and I never said a word to him. I just gave him an eat crap look and kept walking.
Then when I was 13 he was blasting his wife up one side and down the other calling her stupid. Then came into the bedroom where all of us girls were (I was trying to make them laugh while he was ranting), and he bolted in there and looked straight at me and said "You ready for yours???!!!" I just looked at him and said "My what?" So to save face, because I didn't cower to him or act the least bit afraid of him he said "Never mind, you're to stupid to understand." Then he slammed the door and left. I started laughing after he left.
But his girls would just freeze when he started up. You could see the pure terror on their faces.
My aunt has Crohn's Disease and I think it is from living with him for 60 years.
They apparently went to counseling and everything is hunky dory now.
But I think it's because he is old and tired and on oxygen and just doesn't have the energy to be nasty anymore. And if I never see him again, it will be too soon.

I’ve been wondering if my mom is the reason for my seizures. Because of what you’re talking about with the nervous system here. I’ve found she would provoke me and I would react then I would have a seizure and later on she would say “I knew something was up” because of how I reacted. So she was saying my reaction was cuz of my seizure disorder but she was poking and prodding me and then I’d have a seizure. I also found that she would ask where I was in my menstrual cycle which I thought was weird. I honestly think she would time her poking and prodding me to be around certain times so it would look like it was my cycle causing the seizures. We shall see soon! It’s been a little over a month since I cut her out of my life. She tried putting my grandma in the middle for a bit since she likes drama but I had to send her a text that me telling her I’m not talking to her doesn’t mean to send messages via a 3rd party, it means she is out of my life and I will not have any communication with her. So I need to give it some time and see if they improve without her in my life.
