The trick with the larger socket was a life-saver for me today. Thank you!

I always face the grease fitting towards the drive shaft , I find it easier to lube that way Frank T

Thank you for the comment. Now that I think about it that would make it easier! I will be sure to do that every time in the future.

That’s a great tipster there ! Also sometimes one or more of the snap ring / retainer clips won’t seat into the groove ( it may be a little too thick) , keep a flat , fine metal file on hand and just lightly press the snap ring onto the file and give it a few strokes to shave off a little metal then try the fitment again until it seats into the recessed groove . I even keep the old snap rings they are reusable in the event that maybe you’re doing a roadside repair and don’t have access to a file , sometimes the new ones are a bit too thick and one of the old ones will work .

Also … put a mark on the yoke and drive shaft prior to disassembly, put the unit back together in the same orientation it was before disassembly, this will ensure that the drive shaft will retain its balance .

@@NorthwoodsNomadthat is true. I usually find if you wire wheel the recess they fit well but the suggestion about a flat file if they are still to thick is a good one.

That's alot of stress on the drive shaft hammering...
