Wrongfully Accused: The Central Park Five Scandal
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 6 июн 2024
- This video is an in depth look at the police procedures commonly used to arrest criminals in the US justice system. Specifically focused on the Central Park 5. There are a number of racial biases in the police force and the criminal corrections system. Highlighted during the case of the Central Park 5 and their false imprisonment.
I also want to take a dive into the various justice system around the world to see which criminal systems work and which ones don't, and why.
Around the world prisons and justice systems are all different and so are attitudes towards crime, theres a lot to learn from other countries. This is the place to start learning about crime and its causes.

This is absolutly amazing, the production is top notch, there's clearly lots of thought behind the points made in the video. You are probably the most underrated channel on youtube.
Wow, thank you! Thats very kind
This channel is seriously underrated the only way he can become big is with our support
It’s all lies and literally 3 minutes of research proves it.
@@hungryrefrigerator5784
Having worked in the justice system, I can say you are 100% spot on. More than 50% of prisoners should not be there. You have a greater chance of pulling a harsh sentence for a line on Facebook than if you commit a murder.
Thanks, that feels very vindicating to hear
Every dive into the American justice system fills me with a deep feeling of darkness and disappointment. This isn’t a system that can be fixed or adjusted, it needs to be replaced from private prisons all the way to the police itself.
@@shroomer8294 absolutely! Preach yo
Just want to say that the quality is astounding. I'm sure this will be a great video.
Thank you. I hope it lived up to the expectation, if not let me know why then I can fix it next time
It exceeded my expectations, I hope you gain more subscribers because this video was incredibly eye opening and I learned a lot. Thank you for your dedication.
Thank you, I was dead nervous about this video because it's a little different and I'm on camera a lot more than other videos so that's very reassuring.
Agree, peak interest goes all out in the research, writing, and editing department for his video. These are the types of video I crave on RUclips.
Gordon approves.
There’s this awful case of false confession in Sweden when a boy died while out playing with two brothers, literally 5 and 7 years old. They said they didn’t know where he went and they were found to be guilty bc of confessing after hours of questioning with no parent present. Literally our biggest failure of justice in the history of this country
They were ultimately declared innocent 20 years later in 2018. After living with the shame of “suppressed memories” their whole life. It’s called the Kevin case if anyone wants to look it up.
That’s the opposite of this case.
I agree with a lot of what you said. I have hated the law being used solely for vengeance. A lot of people will say, "I hope they lock the person up and lose the key." It is as almost a sport for people, rooting for a conviction. I think the major road block is the media more than the politicians. They want viewership and they will use the same talking points you have made against change, to keep people angrily watching them.
Media is Def a big facet of the problem, but some media does present the alternative and better system that we see in other countries (BBC has shown Norwegian prisons a few times) sadly when they do few people are interested in the story
How could you agree with any of it?
Definitely didn't expect a reenactment. This really was well put together and really captured the hopelessness of those poor boys' situation and really did raise quite a few points and question about why we jail people and how convictions are even made. I didn't expect the amount of innocent people being jailed to be even in the double digits honestly...it's a sobering thought.
Honestly, I was really into punish the prisoner mentality but yeah it does make sense to try to reform the prisoner so they don't commit more crimes in the future..
Well done yet again!
Thanks Josey thats really very kind indeed. Nice to see you again
i do impressions too. Like Michael Jackson " shamon mutha " and PrinceCharles - " eeee _eee awww"
@@PeakedInterest And thank you, always here for some good content to help me get through the work day.
A lot of people here are talking about the quality of ur video... i think they are all missing the main thing you were trying to point out, which was to show how corrupt the justice system is, and how it doesn't work, as well as showing its flaws. You did a great job providing evidence to support what you were saying, and hopefully those who watched the video have learnt a lot when either dealing with police, interrogations or how broke the system is.
Thanks, that was the point of the video so I'm hoping people took that message away too.
But he lied over and over and over again
This is really scary. I know that I am incredibly prone to being manipulated due to both neurodivergence and previous trauma, and I can't even imagine how people who are not just like me but are also typically profiled by the police, get this far far worse. Thank you for the video
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave a comment
Rule 1. Do not say ANYTHING to the police, talk ONLY to your lawyer. Even if you innocent and the police tell you that you are not under arrest.
Rule 2. The only phrase to ever say to the police is " I demand a lawyer now". Ignore anything the police say to you, American police are trained to LIE TO YOU.
Yea almost everything here is completely false.
Oh man he really wasn't kidding around when he said the video was going to be longer than normal
Nope...it's a long one. Hopefully it's not boring
This was a treat
@@PeakedInterest not boring but very informational.
I kind of just want to see Legal eagle react to this.
You know Id like to see that too. Feel free to link it to him
The idea that this channel is so small yet the content is SO impressive and well put together upsets me. I discovered you channel a little more than 4 hours ago and can't get enough. This content is insightful and fun. I'm sold, you got your self a permanent and patron supporter. You deserve it with all of the work you pour into your content. *claps*
Thank you, that's very kind. I just try to make interesting videos, nice to know in your case I managed to do it
That interrogation of that 14 year old kid was very hard to watch. I was infuriated on his behalf.
Completely fake. You can watch the actual interrogations. It will take you about 4 hours to listen to all 7 of 8 of them.
How do you not have atleast 1 million subscribers? This is crazy good stuff!
I dunno, people need to share my videos more I guess and get my name out
@@PeakedInterest one day the algorithm will notice you and then you will go viral. Just a question of time.
Fingers crossed
This video really made me realize just how messed up the Justice System is. It was horrifying to hear about all the cases, and that 14 year old boy's interview about his system almost made me cry. Something needs to change.
Also, this video is super well made, and I feel like it gets the point across very well.
Well this video is lies.
watched this entire video from start to end, the production is amazing, incredible job man, i instantly subscribed
This is absolutely insane. I love this video so much, it's so easy to watch, it's informative, it's just incredible!! Keep up the amazing work
Thank you
WOW! I AM SHOCKED! This video was incredible, the writting, the skit scenes, and the length was great! Really really love important topics such as these being discussed in lengthy videos.
Thanks very much. That's incredibly kind
This is my favorite video on the channel. The epilogue hits the nail on the head. I honestly wish you put it somewhere more people will see it. The attention retention will dip towards then end. Yet I feel like it is one of the most important piece. Great job man.
Yeah I tried to find somewhere else.to put it but it was really incongruent elsewhere. I do agree it's something everyone should know
this is absolutely one of my favorite videos on youtube!! i hope you do more videos like this soon ! after JCS stopped uploading ive been looking for similar channels, and this is definitely one of my faves :)
I’m 3 minutes in and it’s all lies.
Just discovered you. Big ups for exploring this case. I’m the same age as these guys and living in NE NJ I followed this closely. At the time I was familiar with “wilding out” activity and had seen and nearly been a victim of these frenzies that would kick off in Newark almost spontaneously. Could a black 13 to 16 year old have done something like this? HELL YES!! But these five kids, even then, I felt did not do this. There was limited media in ‘89 but the clips and bits I saw; there is a certain look, like a defiant “I don’t give a f***” facial expression, these five kids did NOT have it. Also, there is no freaking way nypd in 1989 were THAT fast. They got those three parameters and went to work rounding up what seemed like everybody. Thank god I wasn’t in Central Park THAT night for sure. Anyway, you got a new subscriber. Great job. Cheers!
Thanks very much, I hope to retain your faith in future videos. Welcome aboard
I don't know how I found your channel but I'm glad I did. Keep up the great work man. You got a new subscriber
Ahhh my notifications haven’t been going off.

This is such a sad story. 💔 These boys lost so much.
Thank you Peaked.
Thanks for watching ☺️
great video! really hope this is the one that goes big, its really informative and well edited, keep up the good work!
This video perfectly criticized the flaws in the prison system. The U.S prison system should strive from victim reduction and the only way that can be possible if people coming out of prison have a better chance of reintegrating into society. Lastly, I don’t mind that the video was long because the video had something to say about how broken the U.S justice system is. Keep up the good work and you’ll be sure to hit a millions subscribers.
Thanks man. I was nervous about this video so that eases my mind. Appreciate you taking time to watch and comment
It doesn’t, all lies.
You're documentaries are amazing, please keep them coming!
Dude your videos are amazing! I really hope there's more coming. Thanks a lot!
Oh boy, the beginning of this video hit me hard. I still remember the first time hearing about the „central park five“, and this case still breaks my heart. Fantastic video!
Thank you
Well done man. Just insanely well put together
Thank you. I worked extremely hard on this video so I appreciate that
you are one of the best content creators on this platform and very VERY underrated. This video is a 10/10 but the RUclips algorithm won't favor this video, might be because of the length (although honestly the algorithm is weird and unpredictable) Your work doesn't go unnoticed. Keep it up legend
One the best videos I've watched in a long time. Your channel is beyond underrated
Thank you
your content is so underrated, might be the only youtuber i actively support by sharing and stuff
Thank you, very kind words. Sharing does actually help quite a bit. When content gets shared the algorithm recognises it and starts promoting to wider audiences.
Had to watch it part by part and man you have outdone yourself, I enjoyed every second of that video. Hope to see more videos like that ! That is one the most deserving video that received one of my likes.
Thanks that's pretty strong praise
Not so sure of o should be watching it at this hour (past midnight). I love true crimes, but this looks intense, but in a good way. The quality looks amazing! Well done!

You need to submit this to Lord Occulan's glorious eyeballs, this video deserves way more views than it has right now.
Who's lord occulan?
@@PeakedInterest Lord Occulan is a “character” (more just a transitional device) used by the RUclipsr ThoughtSlime. He likes to cover and promote a smaller RUclipsr who’s works lean a bit “leftist” in tone and seek to help educate people about topics the news doesn’t really focus on, at the end of his own videos. I know this really is your first video that has any major political tones, but I’d still consider it.
I've seen a few of thought slime videos, generally speaking I liked what I saw. Well researched content.

I can appreciate you stepping up your game with the skits! Elevating the content.. And courtroom drama too. 👌 I see you sir. 👍
This channel is criminally underrated
also these videos are very well made and have a great quality, thanks for that it’s very educating
I have to admit too, for the most part of my life id been obsessed with the vengeance aspect of incarceration. you're right...if someone committed a heinous crime against me or a loved one, id want to see karma. but what does it really do in the end. its actually quite interesting that the statistic of people who feel better after seeing that sentence, is actually low...that legitimately surprised me. i wouldve figured people would feel better after seeing karma, but it really just goes to show the existing penalties are just ass after all. thank you for bringing that to light. your video is equal parts passionate and informative. its long but its a video i believe a lot of people need to see. im not american, but the similar justice & police issues exist in my country, and my heart breaks for the boys in the first half of the video that were wrongfully accused, and all the others who were and are just like them. thank you so much for putting out stuff like this. i hope your channel grows as i really like all your videos and your input. this isn't just about quality content, but about highlighting the fucked up systems people need to change.
Thanks for the kind words. The vast majority of countries still operate a crime and punishment system (even when they say they rehab) so its applicable for pretty much everywhere
This video literally peaked my interest from the intro alone. This is like a fully fledged doco.
I'm in for a treat. Congrats on 50k bb.
Great job Peaked Interest, I hope the view count rises soon, it's well deserved. This is a well researched and edited piece of content for sure
Thank you. So long as people keep watching it has a better chance of getting promoted.
Honestly one of the most interesting videos I've watched on RUclips
Thanks. My goal is always to make them interesting and this one's pretty long so most people skip it
thanks for making the video! i really like your channel.
Thank you. I really like your comment
incredible video, so well made
And this is why (among other things) everyone with even a modicum of a sense of justice and a basic understanding of the prison system should be a prison abolitionist. There is no reason such a central part of our society (i.e. how we deal with transgressions) as based around punishment. And the negative effects of this system being based around punishment are immense - I fully believe the prison system has caused more harm than good.
Agreed
@@PeakedInterest I actually wrote the comment when I was about halfway through the video and it only got better from there. The only thing I can think of that you didn't fully address is that, in a justice system based on following the letter of the law, and in which the law can be changed by the people in charge of the justice system, anyone can be labeled a criminal. But I suppose that could be its own video entirely - both labeling theory and how we define what constitutes a crime. Overall incredible introduction to prison abolitionism. Definitely gonna share this whenever it's relevant :)
Thank you. It was demonetised by RUclips so it barely gets promoted anywhere which was frustrating because it was a topic that I cared quite a lot about
@@PeakedInterestI’m so sorry. This was so well done.
This video was amazingly good. I just found your channel this week. Most def going to subscribe and view more!
Thanks, hope you find it interesting
Umm why is it complete lies then?
This is well fucking done. You hit a majority of the most important takeaways and events. I appreciate that you didn’t beat around the bush concerning the economic and racial components. Very well organized video essay! Perfect use of creative techniques. I like how you used the case as an introduction to your thesis.
I only recently found your videos and channel but I’ve been binge watching whenever I find the chance.
Thanks. This video barely gets watched thanks to RUclips demonetozing and I spent a loooooong time researching it so it's nice to see some feedback
It’s really not
Man I know you probably heard this all over the comments but dude
This is quality like I’ve never seen in a video
Feels like I’m watching a movie
I hope that the algorithm gives you what you deserve man
Thank you. RUclips actually demonetized it because it's discussion of "sensitive issues" so it probably won't get the love it deserves but I'm proud of it none the less
This video gives me that funny form of deja vu. It just makes sense and sums up every thought I've had about the justice system so far. I wish more people spent their time watching videos on how we could improve society instead of why we shouldn't even consider it.
Part of my drive to extend this video into covering justice systems was precisely because I encountered so many people during research who had the punishment attitude that I started to wonder if the reason was that they didn't know there was a better way
It’s complete fabrication
Came here from the radioactive man and Dutch girls videos, your channel reminds me of the other channel called Criminal Psychology. You make real goof stuff, subscribed and waiting for more content in the future.
Underrated RUclips channel amazing video
For a channel that only has 50k subs the quality and effort is outstanding.
This is my favourite RUclips channel. This video is one of the reasons why

A video of an exceptional quality! More people should see it
Well hopefully if people like and share it then the algorithm will give it a push. Thanks for taking the time to watch.
Dude this is one of the best videos I’ve ever seen. Period. I’m not exaggerating.
Loved this video!
It is fascinating to me as a european watching you explain the justice system of the US with US americans in mind as a target audience. To me the system has always come across as insane and unjust, but explaining that to individuals raised and socialited in this society is a whole new level of difficulty.
Edit to clarify: i live in austria and death penalty is looked at as completely inhumane in all regards, the jury system seems random and unjustified to most of us and our prisons are literally called "bettering facility" as punishment has never been the primary focus
Totally agree. I used the US as example due to that being my biggest audience but in reality almost all countries apart from the ones mentioned have the same system and prejudices just to differing extremes.
Researching the video really taught me quite a lot about crime and punishment
@@PeakedInterest thats interesting! I feel like even the media in non-english speaking european countries is veeeery US centered and with the US as being such a harsh contrast of what the practices are here, i feel like i might have a warped sense of what's "usual" or not. Eg I didn't even know the UK has a juror system as well!
This channel is so underrated it’s almost criminal! ✌️🙏❤️💕

I love these. Great job. So important for today’s environment.
Thid Video is amazing. I really hope this blows up.
Thank you
I think this is an excellent of exploration. All of these were fantastic exaples. You do a good job of using examples to illustrate specific issues but also the examples are numerous and well connected enough to really illustrate how the entire justice system is rotten. These dont feel like isolated incidences, it feels like a very good case against the system. Great job in communicating, you touched on the right emotions without feeling like you're pushing too much of a narrative.
Im going to analyze this with my partner. I was aware of the majority of these issues, but I think this is a good opportunity to work on ny communication of larger issues like this.
Thanks man, this was a really well thought out comment. I really appreciate that.
It's important to remember we can always communicate better, I'm always trying to improve on that and see other perspectives
I totally agree, at this point there is no fixing or adjusting the current system. Replacement is the only option.
All of your videos are hard for me to watch, be it seeing Hisashi Ouchi being kept alive in a torture-like manner, or realizing that I am probably terrified of the ocean.
I can't say that I agree with every sentiment portrayed by this video. This is only to be expected, and I'm sure you can piece together the points in the video a conservative may be hesitant about. Your video has me conflicted because, from the glance I am able to take, you didn't say anything inherently wrong. As uncomfortable as it was for me to watch parts of this video, I'm glad I can be sure that I am not in an echo chamber.
Don't get me wrong, I still love your videos! This isn't meant to be a criticism of anyone but myself, really. You presented your case very clearly and in a, from what I can tell, mostly unbiased way. Unlike those screaming that capitalism is the manifestation of Nazi fascism, you presented a legitimate argument that makes me question myself. Maybe I need to change or at least provide more support for my opinions.
Regardless, thank you for posting such high-quality videos!
Don't worry I didn't take it as a criticism, I was very aware of how people of a conservative persuasion would have trouble with certain aspects of the video which is why I was careful to only present things I could directly evidence and to not attack anyone for their beliefs.
Like I said in the video it's mostly our beliefs as people which block our progress on this issue, and it's actually something which democrats believe too. Ask many of them how they would like a racist police officer to be treated for example and the answer will be very similar to a traditional conservative view.
How Joe Biden reacted to this case, has been conveniently left out 🤔
@@Milkman4279 I'm not sure what your implying or if your comparing him to Trump's inflammatory and hypocritical response. We can assume Biden was similar, as he endorsed the ultra-punitive 1997 Crime Bill. After all, Trump and Biden are both rich, white politicians that benefit from a harsh, privatised justice system, that has overt racial and social-biases. In that way, "conservative" or "liberal" politicians equal the same thing in U.S. politicians.
Your true crime stuff is OUTSTANDING! So well researched! Very well put together. Excellently presented!....AND a northern accent! Bravo Sir!
Thanks very much. Genuinely appreciated
Hahahahaha is this a joke?
Unreal video man, absolutely perfect. Loved the back and forth in the courtroom scenes, really well thought out. One question for you? Petty crime I can let slide and actually feel for the person because we've all been there, sometimes your ego will take over and you end up doing something silly but forgivable but would you have a firm stance on serious crime?
Personally no. Like I say in the video I look at it long term. If being harsh on someone in jail leads to them becoming a worse criminal and hurting more people when they get out then to me that's counter productive.
I'd always take the rehabilitative approach because all I want to do is reduce crime and victims and punishing people isn't as effective as rehabilitating them.
Im very pragmatic when it comes to public services because I tend to think that my actions and decisions are affecting more than just me and the way I feel. Doesn't mean it's wrong to do it another way but it is scientifically shown to be less effective.
@@PeakedInterest I can see your point of view, maybe I'm just a little more narrow minded but your video would make me pause and have a good think about the issue, thanks again;well worth the wait and I was delighted with the length of the video
I don't think you're narrow minded, that's not the word I'd choose. The very fact your open to look at the evidence and discuss it proves that you aren't narrow minded.
For a situation like this it's very tough to land on the side of evidence because it directly contradicts the way we feel about things.
You should give yourself more credit.
OMG that was a lot to take in but very interesting and eye-opening. I would recommend everyone see this video.
Thank you, hopefully more people will see it
You outdid yourself mate! Excellent! Hope this video gets pushed from the algorithm next.
Thank you.
I thought "no", immediately after your first question. Writing this straight after that question, on pause. Horrible as the crime is, anyone can give "eye witness" testimony saying they saw everything. Anyone can be blamed, and a life can be ruined. Especially if they have no background for such crimes. Police often can be put under pressure to get results. This can lead to racial profiling, and evidence can be falsified, or ignored entirely.
After getting a quarter into the vid: Ah, we both came to the same conclusions. But HOW was this allowed to happen?? Especially to children, this whole case was handled in the most illegal and corrupt way. There is SO much wrong with how the confessions were obtained. How can it be legal to lie to those they are interviewing? The worst part is, by doing this nonesense, the real culprit was allowed to remain free and do it again.
By spending all this time focusing on falsifying evidence, they completely failed to do their job. This behaviour may have cost another victim their life: they also made victims of those children. God that makes me so angry.
If I were a juror, I would be asking a lot of questions, such as whether these concessions were obtained legally. I would not read the news about it, and make my own decisions, because that is a juror's duty. Of course Trump made it worse: he had no idea about what happened, I doubt he even wrote it, and is obviously a racist. Everyone knows by now that he is an idiot, exposed as a fake intellectual that has no real idea about anything he talks about.
Wow you're doing a very good job! Keep it up!
Thanks, appreciate that. I'll do my best
Great work!
Thank you
This vid reminds me of The Fifth Estate's video on the Martensville Satanic sex scandal. Even long after the wrongfully accused were proven innocent, they still received mistreatment from others who still thought they were guilty (of the abuse that never happened) and got away with it. Watching the end of that video was heart-wrenching.
It's a depressingly common occurrence which is why it's really important that investigation and police be done correctly first time round because a large amount of people take the "no smoke without fire" approach of still thinking people are guilty just because they were accused of it.
Great content!
Speaking of crimes, how does this only have 15K views???
This is quality that should be on tv

@@PeakedInterest hold up
I’m waiting for your channel to pop out and have millions of subscribers, it’s just a matter of time.
Well that would be awesome if it happened.
Great video with some very solid points. Love this form of longer videos.
If I may offer a small piece of criticism, maybe tune down the chromatic aberration a bit? Especially on the text, it made it pretty difficult to read for me
This is an excellent way to explain the issues with the American criminal justice system.
The thing that gets me the most is that the police lie about what evidence they have before they have even investigated anything. They come up with a theory of what happened and decide that that theory is in fact what did happen without looking into facts and possible suspects that may actually have some bearing on the case. This isn’t justice, this is just closing cases. If one of my loved ones was murdered, I don’t want just anyone to be punished for committing the crime, I want the person who actually committed the crime to be punished for it.
This is gonna be a long ride, time to grab the popcorn!
