Contrary to what ACI recommends, you should not dose Kalk without paying attention to Alk. You probably spiked the Alk and that is what led to a calcified sandbed (which by the way, ACI does not have 😉.

If you don't need your corals growing at a maximum rate like a coral farm, do you really need to add kalkwasser?

Reefbum was not dosing kalk when he had the sand problem and the short time you’ve been dosing it, that is not normal. ACI aquaculture method is a way better method than the kalk reactor. I made the switch after many annoying issues with the reactor and having much better luck now.

Thanks for the vidio, I have been thinking about try Kalk, but haven't done it yet. I shut down my calcium reactor, long story. I like Avast Marine stuff, I am currently running their Ozone reactor.

That kalk that stays in the bottom that becomes useless, how much time would you say until it gets to that point?

How you like that kalk reactor as a external unit? I’m looking for one now… also did you base your kalk dosing off ALK consumption or was you just trying to match tanks evaporation? You may have had crazy high alk causing your issues

It is an honor to be commented on by an OG RUclipsr lol. I base it off ph only. I tried basing it off evap but that was a mistake. My winter evap is 2x my summer. Caused off the charts Ca, sand solidified, muted colors
I currently continuous dose 3L a day. ATO covers the rest of evap. Going this route has made my parameters consistent and gives high ph.
My daily holds between 8.2- 8-4. Ca at 550. Alk at 7.

@@InfiniteReef haha man I’m just a Brotha with a reef tank and a phone nothing special. I’ve seen the method basing it off Ph. I’m basing my dosing off alk consumption 50/60ml a hour right now.. I wanted to know if you would trust that avast unit outside your sump when it comes to leaks ?

    • @InfiniteReef

I'd use it outside the sump. The glue they provide in the diy kit is very strong and dries like a rock.

@@CJSAQUARIUMS if you use it outside the sump be sure to check the outflow tube periodically to make sure it hasn’t clogged with kalk. That causes the reactor to overflow and make a mess.

Is using this better than using a doser?

Don't listen to the large tubers pushing crusty old kalk dosing. Kalk went out the window 20 years ago for good reason, anyone pushing Kalk has super large systems and is the only "cheap" way to dose or is new to it and just riding the fad some of the large wholesalers have started..... Remember these are the same people using mass antibiotic dosing in the systems they are selling to customers without telling them....
High pH is easy to do and Kalk is not the answer.....
