The Doctor was offering the man jelly babies which was a callback to The Fourth Doctor (Tom Baker) whenever he greets his friends or enemies for his famous line "Would you like a jelly baby?". One of my favourite episodes of the Capaldi era.
What I get from this episode is this is the first time Clara fully understands the enormity of the decisions the Doctor makes and he is just trying to get the best result from bad circumstances. In the previous episode, the Doctor put the decision making into Clara's hands, and having to make such a decision , it terrified her. Now, she gets to see the Doctor making the hard choices from a new perspective and she can clearly see each decision he makes is calculated to get to a good result and how he just accepts the pressure of trying to fix the problems. She now understands "Sometimes, the only choices you have are bad ones...but you still have to choose."
It's interesting how much the 12th Doctor era reminds me of the classic series, like the 4th Doctor. There was some darker stuff back then and very interesting.
Clara's change of heart makes sense if you consider what the Doctor just said about addiction. "You cant tell something is an addiction until you try and give it up" or something to that effect. She was about to step off the Tardis forever & backed out last minute, the lying is a big issue though
First of all I´m so sorry that I didn´t reply to your comments earlier since you are a channel member for 3 months now. I don´t know why RUclips hid those comments from me. But now I´ve found them :) And yes you are absolutely right. This show keeps on surprising me, it has so many layers, and you don´t even understand all of them unless you rewatch the show, or have people in the comment section who kindly help you out :) Thank you :)
Hi :) Just wanted to let you know that I upgraded the Members Support. You are now able to watch RUclips Reactions one week in Advance if you want to :) If something doesn´t work, just let me know. And thank you so much for your support. :) I´m really grateful about that :)
They know how to open an episode - you're never turning off at the opening theme.❤ The Orient Express IN SPACE!😂 Guest star singer Foxes performing lounge Queen's 'Don't stop me know'. Queen original went to number 9 in the UK charts. Perkins is played by comedian/presenter Frank Skinner, massive Doctor Who fan. He did ask if he could record a Yes to joining the TARDIS. Hard Light - Tangible Hologram. Popularised in sitcom Red Dwarf of all sci-fi programs. "And another one gone."😂 Another one bites the dust? (Queen song) "Are you my mummy?"😂 "Sometimes all you have are bad choices. You still have to choose." Applies to the last episode as much as this one.
Perkins ( Frank Skinner) is a massive fanboy of Dr Who, fan from the classic who, and voiced some Dr Who audio adventures, PS always love references to past episodes are you my mummy, & fancy a jelly baby
This is personally my favorite story of the season. It's creative and interesting, and has great characterization for The Doctor and Clara's relationship. Capaldi is at the top of his game with this, the Mummy itself is threatening, not really much else to say, I just. Like it alot. Also, "Are you my Mummy?"
Really good episode, Capaldi steals it again, fantastic performance. The tone and more serious nature of this season is very welcome as one of my biggest issues with the last couple of seasons there were story arcs and a certain character i felt was just to silly and gimmicky for me. Overall this is my favourite season since Matts first run. BTW it was Capaldis idea to have the jelly baby sweets in the cigarette case.
Regards Clara's change of heart, I was a little surprised it confused you as you had been saying the truth about it all episode long - she doesn't really want to stop. She is as addicted to it as the Doctor, as he admits to being at the end there. The interesting bit is not that she changed her mind, it is she chose to lie and to blame it on Danny, saying it was his idea to give it up in the first place.
what we learnt is that its like an addiction, she can't leave him because she's addicted to the lifestyle and the adventure. So now she's lied about Danny and had a realisation that she likes it too much.
I promised that my posts would be smaller, now I publish only one post, but I don’t like that the posts are still long, I will try to write shorter. First of all, I want to congratulate Nicole! Merry Christmas! (Or happy new year? It depends on what main holiday you celebrate, for us it’s a new year) In general, happy holiday! About the episode: Yes, my favorite episode. I really like the new style of the season, dark serious themes. Capaldi can play with his face and he doesn’t even need words to convey everything we need to know, it’s a pleasure to watch. Love this quote: Life would be calmer if we were with the right people, but then there would be no fairy tales (c) The doctor saw that Clara was angry with him again and this time he showed a noble act and corrected the situation, tried to save the blonde at the cost of his life in order to calm her down and ask for forgiveness from Clara, and then explained to Clara that sometimes there are simply no good choices, she I understood this and changed my mind about breaking up. PS: Some interesting recent official fact from the Internet, no spoilers. Scientists have been following the Doctor Who series for a long time and recently proved that the fictional character Doctor, with his Christmas episodes, reduces mortality in the real world, thereby making the work of doctors in hospitals easier. I always knew the show was great and had no doubt that it was capable of doing this, but it's still nice to know from an official source.

I know all about addictions. 😅
Quit drinking about 9 months ago now. Still have to get rid of a few other addictions. But I'm getting healthier....
"Are you my mummy" - one of the best references ever :D
I love that this situation was actually foreshadowed by Matt Smith when he was on the phone after Amy and Rory's wedding.

Interesting
Capaldi is a fan of the fourth doctor who loved jelly babies@@ДаняШиряев-п6е
Everyone is dying of old age 😂
Clara is the one who is addicted. She wants the adventure but also wants things on her terms. Now she's lying to The Doctor and Danny!

Great reaction Nicole ! I loved your insight and sassiness… I like this Nicole

What the heck that was?
Clara has an addiction! That's all. 😅🥰
The most relevant comment from Nocologik is "Clara dosn't know what she is doing".
