I like how xen looks more disgustingly organic compared to the original
it looks also a lot more...structured than natural. Like with the first room the Nihilanth teleports you to it looks like it was built by Xenian hands than be a natural part of the dimension's environments.
+Pepper Millers No, it's just that the greater graphical detail makes the symmetry that was already present in the original pop out more.
It all still looks organic, just rounder due to the greater graphical fidelity. Honestly, it looks better than the official, more boring-looking Xen release, since this iteration seems far more alien. The real problem with it is the sound design - those default, plastic crate impact sounds when you destroy the purple shock stalactites are awful, and it really should've been changed into an organic, fleshy or more viscous, alien impact sound.
+YayDude123 Rocks are organic, and there were plenty of other fleshy structures present in the original as well, what with the blood pools, the tentacle trees, those nipple-esque launchpads, etc. This is to say nothing of the vertically and horizontally-placed spires as well.
If you can call essentially ripping off Tallon Overworld from Metroid Prime 1 for 1/5th of the Xen levels varied, then perhaps. I saw no shortage of variety in the original, just, well, shortage - the levels weren't long enough. Yeah, the mechanical portions of the new Xen levels are very visually jarring compared to the original release - if anything, they didn't make it alien enough (Certainly not there). There was no visual limitation with the original release insofar as variety is concerned, so I don't see why that suddenly wouldn't apply to Black Mesa now.
I like the original beacause it shows us how much progress we've made in terms of games
Also half life alyx shows in the quarantine areas signs of xen terraforming on earth

Hey Vladyslavlis, it's nice to see you update your Xen again!. But i have a request for you (sounds silly but whatever). If the official Black Mesa Xen is out. Can you recreate Half-Life Xen levels using official Black Mesa Xen assets? (Like the Textures, Enviroments, Skyboxes, SFX, Musics and BM's Gonarch, Trees and Nihilanth Models as well as Zombie HEV?)
I heard that in Mod-db you will make this mod also works with The mod version of Black Mesa 2012

Am I the only one who loves both this mod and the "official" Crowbar Collective version? The "official" version made some huge improvements on the immersion and exploration as well as some awesome new puzzles and challenges, while this version just *drowns* you in sweet nostalgia. Both are fantastic!

Oh, look! Another factory with insufficient guard rails, open containers of dangerous chemicals, and no one wearing PPE. Worse, the exit is too difficult to reach in an emergency. Someone needs to lay down the law to management.

I mean, probably he can teleport them directly to him, but then what’s the point of that last green teleporter very highly placed in Interloper and then that last red teleporter before him? Was that specially designed for Freeman?

I love what Black Mesa did with xen but this a pretty cool alternative. definitely going to have to download this. It also amuses me how much of a pushover HL1/Improved Xen Gonarch is compared to Black Mesa Gonarch.

I always loved the other dead scientists in Xen. Gordon Freeman was like their last choice to explore Xen and he proved to be better than them all. Also always thought it was awesome that Gordon had already fought the aliens on earth, so he was way more prepared for Xen than the scientists before him who just stepped right in. Valve is brilliant, Half-Life will always be one of the greatest and most immersive games ever created.

This was fine, but Crowbar collective made a piece of art with final game.
It is not about graphics and engine, they did not take the easy way of make the same maps as original, instead they re imaginated everything but keeping the essence. Definitely they managed to overcome the original version

Only three major differences I noticed was the starting Xen area having a couple additional floating islands, the teleporter exit in the 1st Interloper section being a lot higher in order to get rid of the ability to quick cheese the area, and an added tunnel maze above the gargantua area in the 2nd Interloper section.
Incredible for a fanmade mod that sticks to the original when it's clear that the Black Mesa creators are going to be changing up the Xen sections entirely. (not that I'm complaining)
I think that Xen in this mod is a form to imagine a world of Lovecraft style .

I honestly prefer this one over the official Black Mesa one. It looks more like the original. More like organic fleshy insect like. The new one looks like an underwater world in space.

Beautiful remake of a remake. Also, what's with the houndeye corpses at 2:59? Were they intruders killed? Either way, nice touch by the development team.

Gordon extinct the last remaining Gargantuas and put Gonarch and Nihilanth out of their misery and they were the last of their kind.. sad to think about it but on a rail 1 fits so well after Gonarch's death

The Xen gravity is slower than the on earth.
Why do the crossbow bolts fly so fast?
Gravity doesnt affect things traveling in a direction.
