Am I the only person who feels sad when listening to this song? I love it btw, just curious if it evokes the same feelings on anyone else

Me too, a bit! A mixture of regret and enduring optimism, it’s a powerful combination. Another song that makes the connection for me is 1989 by dEUS.

In fairness music has many functions. One of the really important ones is binding people through popular songs that sit somewhere between simple childlike chants and very anthemic melodies. I know a lot of people who just can’t leave the safety of that scene and they’re not wrong. I like to think some of them will go on to have a kind of awakening where they suddenly appreciate this music for what it is, and if that’s in their future then I’ll even say I’m jealous! But for now this music is sublime to my ears.
