    My home city. Used to pass Penny Lane every day for decades on the way to and from work. The shelter in the middle of the roundabout is still there. The banker would have worked at the Martins Bank on the opposite side of the road to the barbers (which is still there). That bank became Barclays Bank. The fire station was about 800 yards away on Mather Avenue.

    And the Barbers is still there on Penny Lane - with photos of the Beatles on the wall.

    this was the other side of Strawberry Fields Forever by John on the single. Its more poppy and simple at first gaze, but also so layered and complex.

    This is Paul's song to respond to John's Strawberry Fields. Strawberry fields was a church garden just down the street from John's house, where he would jump the fence and have a little fort in the woods to be alone. Paul wrote this about the bus stop he and George would use to go to school and take the bus into the city center of Liverpool.

      John quit the band in September of 1969. Paul, George and Ringo topped off some over dubs throughout the winter and finally, Paul ended it in April of 1970.

    This song is anything but simple. You guys simply have to react to classical musician Howard Goodall's commentary on the Beatles, which includes a trenchant analysis of this very song. It is absolutely revelatory. Here's the link: ruclips.net/video/ZQS91wVdvYc/видео.html

      @@simonlee3614 Thanks for responding! I obviously agree that it's great. I wish Nick and Gabe would watch it. It would provide context, insight, and flavor to their reactions which you don't get by just hopping around randomly between songs.

    I don’t understand why this video is so focused on John when it’s Paul’s song. Stroking John’s ego I guess.

      THANK YOU, I have been saying that for YEARS!!! They should have shown PAUL on his own walking around, instead of JOHN! It's PAUL'S compostion and about Penny Lane which was near his home and had more memories for him and George, than John. I never understood that either!!

    The "Shelter in the middle of the roundabout" is still there though the last time I saw it it was unused.
    The "Portrait of The Queen" probably refers to a banknote with a portrait of the then Queen on it.

    It's astonishing how many stories there are about the breakup of the Beatles. The accepted facts are...Ringo left for a few weeks in August, 1968. George left in January, 1969. John wanted to leave many times. And Paul finalized his break in April, 1970. The legacy left speaks for itself.

    • @philiphoy1373
      @philiphoy1373 6 дней назад

      Actually John told the other members he was done in November 1969 but they agreed not to make it public with Let It Be yet to be released. George and Ringo got into an argument with Paul over the release date of new his solo album being too close the Let It Be release. That fight led Paul to make the announcement the band was done prior to the album release leaving the others quite angry. Those hard feelings between Paul and the others lasted several years.

    The Beatles' Vegas show Love has two weeks left. Last day, July 6.

  • @patriciaedwards5183
    @patriciaedwards5183 9 дней назад +3

    Lennon did break up the band. He left in '69 and never came back. The others finished the last album without him. But in actuality thanks mostly to John, George, and Jann Wenner Paul was the one who got the blame and most of the hate. It remains today to a large extent. The reason people dislike Yoko has more to do with Julian and Cynthia.

    A piccolo trumpet player was paid to record the catchy higher trumpet sound.

    • @patticrichton1135
      @patticrichton1135 6 дней назад

      Yes, Paul was listening to the "Brandenburg Concerto" and heard that high trumpet which he had never heard before, but loved it. He mentioned it to George Martin, their producer, and asked if he knew what the instrument was. Martin told him it is a 'Piccolo Trumpet" which is smaller than a conventional trumpet (which Paul's Dad, Jim, played) and had a higher sound. Paul asked George Martin if they could use one on Penny Lane, so that is when he hired a player for it. I like the version of "Penny Lane" where the piccolo trumpet ENDS the song....much better than the usual version.

    Just went to show. It’s called LOVE. Must do, before the mirage also gets taken down!!!

  • @hurricane1951
    @hurricane1951 8 дней назад

    One fact that goes unnoticed about the Beatles, is that they wrote and recorded hundreds of songs, yet for the most part, once they were finalized they were never performed again. Their playlist for lives concerts were very short (they were on stage for 30 minutes only) and it didn't change much throughout a tour. I find this interesting and somewhat sad.

  • @patticrichton1135
    @patticrichton1135 6 дней назад

    The Love Shows last performance in on July 6th, because the "Hard Rock Cafe" bought the Mirage where the "LOVE " show is, and they decided NOT to keep the "LOVE" show. I am so upset, because I was never able to make it out there, to see it. Too much expense for that kind of trip, for my financial situation. I doubt you could get a ticket now. I wish they had at least FILMED it and put it on a DVD so those of us who were never able to go to Vegas and see it in person, could get a sense of what it was like. I am so heartbroken.

    At this point, you should just release a shirt saying ‘This isn’t one of my favourite Beatles songs’, because that’s what ends up being said 90% of the time after a Beatles song.

    this is probably not in my top ten Beatles songs BUT....... it's still fantastic with a capital F!! All of the best Beatles songs(and there are many) seem to be unique unto themselves. AND I almost never don't hear the influence of producer George Martin........ I'd bet that trumpet solo was his idea......amazing.

    Yoko Ono had practically nothing to do with the breakup of the Beatles. They had begun falling apart after doing Sgt Pepper in 1967. It was a slow painful decline.

    It would have been part of a concept album with Strawberry Field Forever. I would have liked an album like that. Also imagine if they had been included on Sgt Pepper album,wow!!
    I will add that music does not come out of a vacuum, so I would recommend looking at a programme around at the time called " The Avengers" which was a surreal kind of Spy M.I.5. British humour, type programme. You might understand the vibe going on in this video.

    Come on Guys. You have to React to the Three Songs that Sydnie Christmas sang on BGT. She was very funny in her Audition then she sang, 'Tomorrow'. Her Second Song was 'My Way' except she sang it Her Way. Her Final song was 'Over the Rainbow'. You will never have heard it sang her way before.

    I don´t get this song. it is weird and not structured. it reminds me of old pink floyd, just without any charm or.. structure. it is a weird song and many beatles song are. too english.. british that is. they did establish many thngs first but really, they eventually had very little to offer.
