  • Using the french preposition à in French can be a little bit tricky because it will change when followed by le or les. We can find it as à - au - à la - à l' and aux.
    We use the preposition à to:
    - Talk about location - à Paris, au Canada, etc.
    - Talk about distance, time, age, and rate: à 5 heures, à 35 ans, etc.
    - Talk about manner and characteristic: Un pull fait à l'ancienne
    - Talk about possession: être à quelqu'un
    - Talk about food and how it is made: un thé à la vanille
    - Talk about specific ways of transportation: à vélo
    - Talk express pain: avoir mal à l'estomac
    - With names of festivities: à Noël
    - Show the purpose of something: un verre à vin
    - With ways to say goodbye: à demain

    • @TheperfectfrenchwithDylane
      @TheperfectfrenchwithDylane  2 года назад

      Both are fine actually, the difference is very subtle. Without the preposition indicates something that you already tried before. With preposition, something that you are trying for the first time.
      Je goûte à la fraise = 1st time
      Je goûte la fraise = You tried it before and you know the taste.

    Hi Dylane. I have your book and I'm on Ex 2.2 of prepositions. I am really confused. In the video you said the preposition does not belong to the second verb or the noun. It always belongs to the verb before. In Ex. 2.2 Elle a acheté un collier à sa mère. In the answer sheet it seems that the preposition is belonging to the second verb. What am I missing? Hopefully I explained this properly. Merci!
