Hi Di You inspired me to do the no waste windmill... So I Bought Christmas fabric and made a few table runners... Just love it... Thank you from South Africa
Okay I have to watch this a second time, to understand the steps better because I coarse I’m taking apart a seam and listen& watching.😩. Love that you have such tiny waste, that amazing. Thanks for sharing 👍❤️😊
Hello! I hope you had a blissful day. I just got to sit down and watch you with my hand quilting! I hope you have a glorious week ahead! Thank you for posting your video and your positive energy!
I bought that twister ruler a very long time ago. A friend had made it and I loved it. But the waste. I've haven't made it yet. I might when I get the book. Thanks, you made it look a lot more simple than I thought.
I found the ruler after I had made this quilt, I was new to quilting. When the lady at the quilt store was explaining it to me all I could see was wasted fabric. She kept telling me there wasn't waste becuase you use the smaller ruler and made a small border for your quilt. I was seeign smaller wasted scraps, lol! I love this method and Anita's book is awesome!
Tricia Savage: (thats my husband Jim in foto)! You are a Genius! thank you ever so much for showing us how you set up your ruler & tape on your cutting mat, simply Genius!!
I have made small Christmas wreath wall hangings with the tiny Twister tool and now I want to make a quilt using a larger block. I didn’t want to buy another tool because I’ll probably make only one quilt. This method is great! And no waste to boot. Thanks so much for the lesson!
I’m so glad you found my video then Lori. I just love this pattern, it’s a good one and saves you buying a bunch of rulers. Thanks for watching my channel😊‼️
I love that this is a “no waste” pattern! I bought the twister ruler a few years ago because I was intrigued by what could be done with it. But once I realized how much waste there’d be I lost interest in it. This is a great alternative!
I’ve did and had the same experience with that ruler Gisele. I’ve made 11 quilts with those directions, it’s one of my fave patterns💙. Thanks for watching my channel😍‼️
I love that block, it’s one of my top favorite quilts ever! And I actually found it before I found the twister rulers, they were an easy pass for me. Thanks for watching Joy‼️🐥
Wow Di, I thought you used that ruler thingie to make that block. I love these quilts. So Pretty! I made a cross quilt from MSQC and I didn’t have a design wall. 😳 That’s another set of blocks a design wall is extremely helpful to have. I only made one of that. This year I was finally able to get some help from my husband and put one up., Yay. 🤣😂🤣 You did a fabulous job demonstrating and making these quilts. I enjoyed last week’s video too, and all your videos. ☺️ I’ve never been able to sew with a friend without six states & 750 miles between us. 🤣Thank you so much for sharing “all your talents”, 🥰 Chris
Hi Chris 👋🏼👋🏼, I found the ruler after I bought the book. I think the ruler actually has more steps and for me it was a bit awkward to use. My Crossroads quilt is sitting in a bag, think I lost my sewjo on that quilt. 🤣 Hooray for your design wall, they are so nice to have. What would you think of coming to Idaho for a retreat with me? You’re 7 states away?🥴😬 I’m working out the details as I’ve had so many viewers asking to attend my retreat. Wondering what your thoughts are? Please contact me through my website. As always, thank you for taking your time to watch my videos❣️😍❣️
My nephew and his wife were visiting last fall. During a conversation about quilting his wife and I were talking about batiks and he asked what they were. I pulled out some fabric to show him and he said "Oh, it's tie-dye for quilters." Thank you for a lovely quilt pattern. Edit: I found the book used.
That’s a pretty good observation from your nephew. I’m so glad you found a copy of the book, when it comes check out the very last quilt it’s called the mitered log cabin. That’s my grail quilt❣️
I always have so much fun watching your videos, and I am somewhat envious a out your retreats! And my grandkids always gather around to see the chick and how she has grown! Keep up the great work, you are a bright spot in my day!
Thanks Pat, I’ll have to give a Sister update for your grandkids. My Hazel would love it too. I’m working on putting a retreat together this October. It will be in McCall, ID. I’d love to have you come and quilt with me😍‼️ Thanks for watching my videos❣️
This is an interesting quilt pattern and a little intimidating lol. I really like the heart windmill quilt, very pretty. Thank you for showing us something different. Have a great Memorial Day weekend!
Jan, I won’t allow you to be intimidated by this pattern!🤣😂 Most of the work is in the layout, I did the heart on my dining room table. I wish you and your family a happy mMemorial Day weekend also🇺🇸‼️ I look forward to hearing from you each week, thanks for watching❣️
By far, this is my favorite quilt thus far. All of the windmill blocks are crazy good in your colour schemes. I will look for this pattern..Thank you for sharing all that you do.🇨🇦
Kara, I used a batik layer cake so I just arranged the colors. I love this quilt, in fact CT I’m in bet it right now, it’s def a fave. Thanks for watching and voting on the backing/binding for the scrappy trip quilt. 🐥
I had to look all over for you, I saw you on someone else's channel and you struck me as an interesting person. I just subscribed! So glad I found you.
The first time I did the border I had to read and re-read the directions. Then Second and third time too. I’ve made that pattern 11 times. I don’t even have to read the directions any more. Thanks for watching my channel😊😍‼️
Oh how I love the engineers comments! 😝 Super cute quilt. Thanks for sharing Miss Di. Have a marvelous weekend. Be safe out there. I’m glad we are almost home from our trip as I don’t like being out there with the crazy drivers on a long weekend. 🤗🤗🤗 See ya next Friday.
Debbie, I had to go back and watch the video because he slips comments in after I do my final preview.😂🤣 It sounds like your vacation was a wonderful one, southern Utah is so beautiful! And I’ll see you next Friday, thank you so much for always tuning in😍❣️
It’s a striking design that looks impossible. Great that you bring it within reach of even novice quilters. I especially like how careful of waste and scrap this method is. One of my favorites. Thanks for sharing with tips and details.
Another great video, tell the Engineer he made me giggle with his comment. My husband says the same thing. All the quilts you made with this pattern are stunning. Have a Happy Memorial Day. Thank you for sharing your tips
Happy memorial day to you too Abeullah! I had to go back and rewatch the video, he puts those comments in after I Preview the editing. Bless the engineers, for how would we ever live without their opinions and comments🤣😂🤣😂 Happy Memorial Day weekend to you and your family as well 🇺🇸❣️
I have this book -operative word is “somewhere” - so I just ordered it again. A friend will have a gift of the one I can not find (yet!)!!! Love this quilt💜. Also absilitely beautiful batiks - one of my favorite fabrics!
I just found you on U-tube. Your video is awesome and I love this pattern. will have to find a copy of this book. I've subscribed so I don't miss anything. Thank you for such an inspiring video.
Thank you Shell, it’s easier than using templates for me. I have the quilt half done & Blue Block is coming over today so we can tag-team on the construction. We’ll have a finished too by noon today😱 I hope life is treating you well on the other end of our valley😍❣️
I love this quilt! And your rotary cutting board layout technique in genius! I have been wanting to make a quilt for my daughter, and like a lot of the younger crowd, she doesn't want anything with busy fabric or quilt patterns that resemble a "Granny quilt". lol Your batik quilt is lovely and the pattern is abstract enough to look modern. Many thanks again for this tutorial including all your tips and tricks!
You’re correct, this isn’t the basic Granny Quilt🤣😂🤣 I hope this pattern works out for her quilt 😍 Blue Block is coming over in an hour, and we’re going to Tagteam and finish up her quilt top. The set up of my cutting mat makes it all Such a smooth process. Thanks for watching Lynda, my neighbor to the North 🇨🇦😍
a billion more blocks - really 'only' 80. LOL You crack me up. You know the first thing I thought is - can I use 12" squares. :-). Love this pattern! April
I made this with the twister ruler. Looks great, but it had a lot of waste. In addition, you had to sew the squares together and cut them with the twister template and sew them back together. This way is better.
After my video has been posted a few days; the author, Anita Grosman Solomon, contacted me with a link to the PDF copy of the book for $20🤑. I included it in the description below the video. I was pretty excited. I bought the book in 2010. Thanks for watching my videos 😍❣️
Love this quilt. I have the ruler to make that pattern but could never figure out how to use it. Brilliant pattern. I purchased the book already. I also enjoyed your retreat videos. Iv never been on a retreat and now at 82 with bad back pain I never will be. So it was fun to see you guys having so much fun Thank you for your videos Mary Lou 🦁😊
Hi Mary Lou👋🏼 I have one size of the Twister Ruler too and that’s why I love this ruler so much. You will love the instructions in the book as they’re so easy to follow. Sorry about your back, However, I’m glad you’re still quilting 😍. Thank you so much for watching my videos, I really appreciate it ❣️
Could l perhaps be the only one not grasping this method …am a visual person..probably the book is best for me..ps have been quilting for 40 years and am not the least embarrassed at not grasping this design ..but have made a couple just by marking a ruler for cutting my blocks..luv the batiks..Wait a minute..watched the video again..bam..now see what you did on the wall.. Yay..🇨🇦
I understand! Sometimes I read a pattern 5 times and still don’t get it. The book has the perfect visuals and is available in pdf format for $20. The link to purchase it’s in the description below the video. Thanks you so much for watching my videos, it means a lot 😊❣️
It is a great pattern and thank you for the shout out from your country 🇨🇦❣️ One of my fave things about the comments is hearing where everyone is from 😍❣️
I have a rotating cutting mat and they are fabulous! Got mine at Hobby Lobby on sale for about $20 -- worth every penny! Thanks for another great video -- you are so much fun to watch and bring such wonderful energy to quilting!
I love, love, love the greens and pinks quilt! (My favorite color combo.) And the heart quilt is a beauty. You are doing so well, Di. I liked seeing the cutting mats in action, too.
Hey!!!! How are you doing? I hope you're over all the cold weather. We seem to have rain storms every weekend like all weekend long! BUt the reservoirs are full and live is good. Glad you liked the cutting mats in action, that's some pretty serious action :) LOL. I hope you're all doing well. PS your old home is now white with balck trim an the flu is out of the roof.
Just found your posts ! Hope I can continue to get them, you are so much fun and give great ideas, love the pins with letters on them! Beats post it notes ! Keep on posting please ….
Hi Margaret 👋🏼 I’m so glad you found me. Did you subscribe and hit the bell 🔔 ? That way you won’t miss my videos. I post every Friday at 5:00 pm MT, seed you then and thank you for watching my channel 😊‼️
Hello Di!! I love your videos and love how you make things so easy to understand!! I haven't made any of your ideas yet key word yet, but I will I just have to pick one and you are not making it easy. Thank you for all your videos and the love you share of quilting, you help us want to learn and get going, maybe you can help with the best idea on which one to start with for a beginner!! Thank you again stay safe.
As I am writing this I’m in the middle of filming this Fridays video. It’s a beginner patchwork quilt with a border. Also the very first video I ever made 😂was call Gingham Grid, another patchwork. I’d start with a patchwork. There are also a few brr E finer lessons on this Fridays video. Thank you for watching my videos 😊 I really appreciate it ❣️
This pattern is a great use of a layer cake! I heard from the pattern designer and her book is available as a pdf book. I put the link in the description below the vieo. Thanks a bunch for watching my videos!
I bought the twister ruler and used it fine, but it got nicks before long. I made a secondary quilt out of the little squares between each piece hat would have been wasted, but know those are on the bias, somewhat. Cute though, a quilt of a little girl and a matching one for her doll. I’ll certainly give this a go for layer cakes as the pieces are big and will show off the fabric nicely. Wondering how much border fabric we need for one 42piece layer cake? Or at least how many 10” squares to cut. I see there’s a few odd blades to the windmills too, to fill ends of rows? Not sure Thank you for explaining this. I really enjoyed it
What is cool with this pattern Bella is you can make the bocks any size, I love that. I'm thinking I used about 20, 10" squares for the border. I had it laid out on a quilt wall then used my technical skills of counting to find out the number needed. On the heart quilt I just cut and laid out the quit from top to bottom on my dining room table. (before the days of a quit wall. Yes, the corners have quarter on them. It's all expained in the book and I think it's a very good value th link will take you to a pdf version. Thanks for watching.
Di, when I saw the quilt at the intro I fell in “love, love, love with it, but I did think oh know that’s gonna be real hard. After watching the video, I think I can do it. Almost finished with my projects then I will tackle it. 🤦♀️ Thank you for the great tutorials.❤️
Yes Norma, you can do it! This quilt is so much easier than it looks! Good On you for finishing your other projects, I have three put away that I need to get finished😳🥴😳🥴 Thank you as always for watching my videos, I appreciate you❣️
Hi Di, well I got the top almost finished. Just need to put the boarder on. I had to get my brain to think differently, and if you don’t think that was crazy! But i did it and decided it really wasn’t that hard. Thanks again. I will post it on Instagram when it is totally done!❤️❤️
LOVE this, and I am going to order that book asap🥰 I love your explanations too, I dint think I would have dared attempt something that has the potential to turn out wonky!
That’s the magic of this pattern, it looks so hard but is so easy. Did you see there is a pdf version of the book? It’s in the description of the video. Thank you so much for watching my videos 😊❣️
You Never disappoint!!! Thank You!!! I found a used copy of the book & it just arrived as I'm waiting this week! :) Your instructions are wonderful & I really love your color lessons !
Hi Di, love this video, you always have great ideas…..I ordered the book. I’m looking forward to making this. Believe me, I have lots of layered cakes. Looking forward to your next video.
I really like the looks of the quilt with so many beautiful colors just sort of flowing together. I am a new quilter...one quilt finished, second quilt just started....and your cutting instructions were a bit confusing. I went in search of the pattern book and found it at Abe Books for under $10. Can't wait to give this a try. Thank you!
Sorry about my confusing instructions Shelly. I was thinking the same thing as we were editing the video, sadly it was too late. Glad you got the book and I’m even more happy that you’re a new Quilter and are working on your second quilt! Quilting is so much fun, addicting, and rewarding! Thank you for watching my videos, I appreciate you❣️
@@sisterchicksquilting UPDATE: So disappointing. I placed the order for the book, it was processed, money taken from my account and....I got an email saying the book was no longer available. The shop cancelled my order and is supposed to be issuing a refund. I went searching for another book this morning and the cheapest I could find was $50. As much as I like the pattern, it just is not worth that kind of money. All other shops with more reasonable prices are already sold out. I watched the video again and, from what I can see, after marking your corner location, you could create a cut line at the 2.5 mark on all 4 sides. Does that sound right? P.S. I am already a batik freak too. LOL
So guess what! I bought that exact same book at a garage sale today for $1.00!! I’m flipping through the book, see the instructions which look soooo hard, so I went on YT to see if there are any videos. ❤️
When sewing the boarder pieces to the other half of the block where do you position it. The inside blocks had four pieces and you could match the center with the seam . The boarder piece does not have a center seam.
The four pieces of the center block are identical. So two together would be half a block. It fits. I hope this answers your question. Thanks for watching my channel. 😊🐥
Love your pomegranate version! So pretty! I like your fabric baskets but I buy mostly yardage. I was wondering if the pattern might be adaptable to fit fabric wrapped on the comic boards?
Thanks Michelle, I’m quite partial to that quilt too. I think those baskets could be adapted to fit the comic book boards. I would make a practice basket omitting the Bosal and the lining while I fit the size of the basket. Please let me know how they turn out. And thank you for watching my videos❣️
The PDF pattern has details on how to do everything. Also, there’s wonderful pictures if your visual you should really pick up that pattern if you love that quilt so much. It’s not just a pattern, but a book for that price you’d probably love several of the other quilts in the book as well. Good luck! And when you make your’s email me a picture, I love that pattern and would love to see it.
Just watched this video. I did notice your correction in the description. Not everyone always looks in the description. Could you edit this video to show the correction in a subtitle or perhaps a disclaimer at the beginning. I don’t know anything about editing so I don’t even know if this would be possible but it would be helpful. Thanks for another beautiful quilt.
I would love to make this can you please post the exact measurements to make these blocks. All the others are sewing blocks together and cutting them up. I prefer your way of doing it.
I just used 2 layer cakes so 10” squares. Then lay it out on a design wall or bed. A link to the pdf book with the pattern is below the video. Have fun and thanks for watching😊❤️🐥
Great video, but how do you decide where to make the cuts on the layer cake. I did not hear you mention any measurements for where to divide the layer cake into 4 parts.
How I set up my cutting mat using the template determines where and how the layer cake is cut. In the video I put the tape on my cutting mat leaving a 10 in.² in the middle. The four pieces of tape is where I make my cuts on the layer cake. How I mark the template using the tape on my cutting that is what determines where I will cut the layer cake. I hope this helps. Thank you so much for watching my video, I appreciate it😍❣️
Lol....."and just, you know, figure it out....." 😂. I love the quilt pattern. Lovely quilt. 😊👍💕
Easy instructions, right? LOL!
It is one of my faves and it feel as lovely as it looks. As always, thanks for watching :)
Oh wow! I am ready to make this quilt now. So easy.
Love that quilt it’s on my bed right now. Thank you for watching Kim.😊♥️🐥
I bought the book but I could not have done it without watching you. You're a good teacher. Thanks.
Thank you very much Pat, I appreciate that 😊❣️. Thanks for watching my channel😊🐥

Thanks DiAnn. It was the very second quilt I ever made and I’ve made over 11 since then.

Love the engineers notes 😂. Great work

And Happy Summer to you Janet‼️ That is if it ever comes here⛈❄️🌨🌬🌩🌦❄️⛈😳

What a wonderful comment BJ😍❣️ Thank you for finding me and watching my channel. I appreciate you.😊❤️🐥
I have this book -operative word is “somewhere” - so I just ordered it again. A friend will have a gift of the one I can not find (yet!)!!! Love this quilt💜. Also absilitely beautiful batiks - one of my favorite fabrics!
lol, for ordering by it again 😊 yes, batiks are beautamous 😍♥️
This is awesome, I think I would like to try it. Thank you ❤
It is awesome and so easy, go for it! TFW😊❤️🐥
I just found you on U-tube. Your video is awesome and I love this pattern. will have to find a copy of this book. I've subscribed so I don't miss anything. Thank you for such an inspiring video.
The link to a pdf copy is in the description below the video. I’m glad you found me, thank you for watching my videos Vicki😊. I appreciate it😊❣️
Love this quilt and love how you set up your rotating cutting mat! Brilliant idea!
Thank you Shell, it’s easier than using templates for me. I have the quilt half done & Blue Block is coming over today so we can tag-team on the construction. We’ll have a finished too by noon today😱
I hope life is treating you well on the other end of our valley😍❣️
I love this quilt! And your rotary cutting board layout technique in genius! I have been wanting to make a quilt for my daughter, and like a lot of the younger crowd, she doesn't want anything with busy fabric or quilt patterns that resemble a "Granny quilt". lol Your batik quilt is lovely and the pattern is abstract enough to look modern. Many thanks again for this tutorial including all your tips and tricks!
You’re correct, this isn’t the basic Granny Quilt🤣😂🤣 I hope this pattern works out for her quilt 😍
Blue Block is coming over in an hour, and we’re going to Tagteam and finish up her quilt top.
April
LOL :) Do you supersize your Big Mac meal too, LOL ( I think I'm funny) I'll contact you this next week.
I made this with the twister ruler. Looks great, but it had a lot of waste. In addition, you had to sew the squares together and cut them with the twister template and sew them back together. This way is better.
You’ve got it Dawn, my experience with that ruler wasn’t great! I love this pattern.
Thank you for watching my videos, I appreciate it ❣️❣️
Rotary cutting revolution is $50.+ on Amazon now. Glad you got a deal!
After my video has been posted a few days; the author, Anita Grosman Solomon, contacted me with a link to the PDF copy of the book for $20🤑. I included it in the description below the video. I was pretty excited. I bought the book in 2010.
Thanks for watching my videos 😍❣️
A very cute (and manageable) pattern 🤗🧵🪡✂️

Iv never been on a retreat and now at 82 with bad back pain I never will be. So it was fun to see you guys having so much fun

Thank you for watching my videos 😊 I really appreciate it ❣️
I love this pattern. Yes, I've done the Twister, but this looks great. I have a layer cake that needed an idea. Thanks!
This pattern is a great use of a layer cake! I heard from the pattern designer and her book is available as a pdf book. I put the link in the description below the vieo.
Thanks a bunch for watching my videos!
“Twist this baby!” 🤣😂🤣
You should be glad you didn’t see my lower half doing the twist🤣😂🤣‼️

Beautiful quilts. I like the pattern.
Thank you Karin! 😊 And, thanks for watching!
I love this quilt
thank you :)
Love it!! Thanks so much for your fun and informative videos!!!
You’re welcome and thank you for watching my videos 😍❣️
I bought the twister ruler and used it fine, but it got nicks before long. I made a secondary quilt out of the little squares between each piece hat would have been wasted, but know those are on the bias, somewhat. Cute though, a quilt of a little girl and a matching one for her doll. I’ll certainly give this a go for layer cakes as the pieces are big and will show off the fabric nicely. Wondering how much border fabric we need for one 42piece layer cake? Or at least how many 10” squares to cut. I see there’s a few odd blades to the windmills too, to fill ends of rows? Not sure
Thank you for explaining this.
Such a pretty quilt! I do really like this no waste method! Great tutorial!
I’m so glad you like it, it’s a winner for me, having made it so many times. Thank you for watching my videos, I appreciate it Sherry‼️
Good On you for finishing your other projects, I have three put away that I need to get finished😳🥴😳🥴
Thank you as always for watching my videos, I appreciate you❣️
Hi Di, well I got the top almost finished. Just need to put the boarder on. I had to get my brain to think differently, and if you don’t think that was crazy! But i did it and decided it really wasn’t that hard. Thanks again. I will post it on Instagram when it is totally done!❤️❤️
I love this quilt pattern😍 Thank you!
Thanks Tracy, me too. That must be why I’ve made it so many times😜🤣
Thank you for watching ❣️
LOVE this, and I am going to order that book asap🥰 I love your explanations too, I dint think I would have dared attempt something that has the potential to turn out wonky!
That’s the magic of this pattern, it looks so hard but is so easy. Did you see there is a pdf version of the book? It’s in the description of the video.
Thank you so much for watching my videos 😊❣️
You Never disappoint!!! Thank You!!!
I found a used copy of the book & it just arrived as I'm waiting this week! :) Your instructions are wonderful & I really love your color lessons !
Thank you Tiffany :) Glad you've got a copy coming. I'll work on more color lessons. Thanks for being a loyal viewer!!!
Hi Di, love this video, you always have great ideas…..I ordered the book. I’m looking forward to making this. Believe me, I have lots of layered cakes.
Looking forward to your next video.
If I had known about your layer cake stash I would have called you instead of Blue Block ‼️🤣😂 As always, thanks for watching and commenting ❣️❣️
Nice demo! Good tips. Looks like a quilt that is interesting, yet easy to make. Thanks for the time and effort!
You’re correct on all points Omi😉
Thank you for taking your time to watch my videos❣️
LOL
I luv it
Thank you Sandi I snuggle with it on my bed right now😍👍🏼❤️🐥
So guess what! I bought that exact same book at a garage sale today for $1.00!! I’m flipping through the book, see the instructions which look soooo hard, so I went on YT to see if there are any videos. ❤️
Hey that’s a big time score Michelle‼️ i’m so glad you found my video I hope you enjoy it and my other quilting videos have a great day😊❣️
@@sisterchicksquilting I’m happy too! Thank you!!!
Brenda from mount scrapmore sent me
Hi Jenn!!! THanks for boarding The Chick Train!!! :) :)
This is a vary purity.
👍🏼 To you Barbie❣️❣️
Love your pomegranate version! So pretty! I like your fabric baskets but I buy mostly yardage. I was wondering if the pattern might be adaptable to fit fabric wrapped on the comic boards?
Thanks Michelle, I’m quite partial to that quilt too. I think those baskets could be adapted to fit the comic book boards. I would make a practice basket omitting the Bosal and the lining while I fit the size of the basket.
Please let me know how they turn out. And thank you for watching my videos❣️
Please show how you assemble the sides.
Thanks for your feedback, Fran.
