I really like the quilt and the way you explained it! It's really neat to see new/old patterns and learn how to change them to the size that you want them/the blocks to be. Thank you so much!
If you sew an additional line 1/4 " to the outside of the 1st seam and then cut, those triangle waste pieces turn into HSTs you can use in other projects!
I’m so glad I found you! Love your tutorials. I can’t see well enough for small pieces, so was glad you told the math for bigger sizes. My family is from arkansas so I love this pattern!
Hi there. I saw your reply to the other comment (about not finding a send button) and wanted you to know that I did get this one also. Thanks for the lovely comment and I am so glad you liked the video! Stay tuned for more to come!! ~Deborah
At first I thought this was much too complicated but after seeing how you broke it all down, I think I’ll be doing this in the near future. Thank you for the inspiration and explanation. (And the video, pattern, etc! )
Hi, greetings from a quilter in France. I love this project and as you say, it uses a huge chunk of tiny scraps - which we all have mountains of . Thank you for sharing...❤
I'm a quilter too. I tend to make quilts with larger pieces because they are faster and easier but absolutely love traditional patterns like this one. I would do a clam shell or baptist fan quilting on this one. I'm a long armer, too. I plan to make some of the gypsy boho skirts for me and my grand daughter using your instructions. Love your channel!
Waving at you from the US! Thank you so much for watching and for your kind comment! Also, thank you for buying me my very first cup of coffee on RUclips. That was so nice! ~Deborah
it looks so complicated (this is also the first video I've watched of yours) but you explain it so clearly!! I will definitely be making one of these because I love scrappy quilts, and I really like that it looks like you planned for the overall pattern. (but even better that you don't have to actually work too hard at it!) thanks! off to watch more, now.
I am so glad you are enjoying the channel, welcome! Thank you for the lovely comment! I hope you have subscribed and are enjoying the other videos as well. Stay tuned 😁 ~Deborah
❤❤❤I absolutely love this. Your tutorial instructions are very clear and I'm going to try this. I'm new here and a beginner quilter. Looking forward to seeing more.
You are just the person I am doing this for! Welcome to the world of making something beautiful out of all those little fabric squares! Thanks for watching ~Deborah
I’ve watched your video about five times! I’m making my 4-patches as leaders and Enders and always thinking ahead to when I finish the current project so I can put them all together. I’m using 2.5” squares as my baskets were overflowing! Thanks for the great idea!
Thanks for the video. I cut my scraps in 1 ½ , 2 ½ , or 5 inch squares so I have a ton of each. I really appreciate such a fun and beautiful quilt to use some of them up. I am now a new subscriber!
Wow!! I feel like this video was made for me. I just touched a sewing machine for the first time ever this year. I struggle but am trying to stick with it. My husband and I are both from Arkansas. I think this would be awesome for a wall hanging in our home.
I absolutely loved your tutorial and the way you explained was perfect. It helped me a great deal. I haven’t made this block yet so I’m excited to try it.
What a fun quilt to make. I’m not a fan of small squares but this block looks like something fun to make. Also appreciate the math to make the block bigger. Thank you!
Love this quilt and your explanations are so clear. Just found your channel this morning and looking forward to learning from you. I have wanted to start piecing for a long time. Been collecting fabric for years. Some from my grandmother and mother who were quilters and some from when I made clothing for myself and my girls. Work and life have kept me busy but I now have slowed down enough that I hope to let this consume my days!! Looking forward to your teaching. Thank you.
Thank you for your tutorial on this quilt pattern! I love it❤ I was searching for a pattern to make a quilt for my brother-in-law with all the scraps I have and this is it!!!! Again many thanks❤
One my favorite blocks!!!! I started making ing these parts several months ago… found the block in a book. Thank you so much for sharing your process. Going to back and check out your other tutorials! You’re not alone… we’re watching you! 😉
I love this block! Thank you so much. I have a huge supply of 2 inch squares which will be great for this quilt. Thank you for giving the alternate sizes.
To my eye, scrappy quilts with a harmonizing background, as you demonstrate are beautiful. Some scrappy quilts just make my eyes go all googly. Perfectly demonstrated, and your production techniques will help quilters get through it fast. Thank you.
We actually have a video coming up that talks about pulling the colors of quilts together, especially scrappy ones. I agree, scrappy quilts can be some of the most beautiful if the colors and background are in harmony. Stay tuned for that one. Thanks for your comment! ~Deborah
This is my favorite way to use up random scraps. I have an accuquilt- so I cut my squares and then use the signature block die for the crossroads. I’ll use about 3 yards of background to make a good sized quilt. A very satisfying pattern.
So glad RUclips added this to my suggested videos! Such a great tutorial on this square. You broke it down to clear, easy to understand steps with great tips! Thanks so much!!
I sort my scraps by size too, everything from 1 1/2” to 5”. I have been looking for ideas to use them. Love this block. Thank you for sharing this video and blog post.
Thank you for your very informative and clearly explained method of making this lovely quilt! I am in the process of making a Texas Bluebonnet crossroads quilt. I have been watching numerous videos on making crossroads quilts and I think this is my favorite as the method is clearly explained.
I LOVE this pattern - such a great way to use up scraps. We’re going away for 2 months this summer and I could easily cut the squares before we depart and assemble on vacation. Thank you!
Thank you so much for explaining this block! I think it is a pretty block! I like the possibility of making it bigger! You made it easy to figure the appropriate size! Thank you again!
I Loved watching you teach this quilt! You definitely made it simple looking & I will plan on making one of those quilts! Thank You for teaching this quilt pattern!😊❤
Great video. I have been seeing my inch and a half squares together from my scraps with no purpose. I use them as leaders and enders. Now i can see them up and make this quilt! I can see this as a cool summer quilt. I also recently picked up some vintage fabrics i can make a bed skirt or table runner with this pattern. I'm glad i came across your channel. I can't wait to see what other videos you have.
Thank you for such a wonderful tutorial! My husband is an avid watcher of Arkansas Police Actiivity. Thank you for sharing this beautiful quilt. I can't wait to make it. TX
I made a practice block and I really like it. I saved it with the instructions I wrote down from your video. I had trouble finding your instructions though...On my computer there were no instructions listed below. There were only comment...so I watched the same video multiple times. Thank you.

I'm impressed by your style. Your sewing room is very well organized, and you have a first-class sewing machine. I'm the other type of quilter, mess everywhere. I wish I was more like you. Lovely quilt, great instructions.
Oh, Mary, you cannot see the rest of the room. haha. It is a mess, I assure you. That is part of the creative process, though, so keep it up. You can make beautiful things!! ~Deborah
Thank you for simple, concise instructions, and also for not making us watch you sew every seam in the blocks and project. We'll done. Your quilt is beautiful!
So happy I found your channel. Your instructions and samples are amazing. It's so very obvious how much effort and care you have put into your presentation. Hope to enjoy many more episodes with you. Thank you from a new fan in Ottawa, Canada.
I am new to your channel. I am a long time quilter and I came across your, “Arkansas Crossroads”. I loved this quilt; I have so many scraps and I know this quilt will rid me of some of my stash. Thanks for your information. I will be following you. Sally, Salisbury, NC.
Thanks so very much! I really appreciate your work, & efforts to make this video for our enjoyment. I’m not fond of ‘small,’ but find I’d like to try this. And even if I just manage to make a chair size throw quilt I’ll consider myself successful. It’s a great quilt and I so appreciate your clear instructions. Your manner and style are calm and enjoyable. Happy sewing!
How timely!!! I was drawn to a quilt that the background was bright green and I didn't know the name of the pattern! Just yesterday I went to Joann Fabric to buy the green background and I guessed at the amount by looking at the photo I took. The pattern is Arkansas Crossroads. Can't wait to start. I have lots of 2.5 in strips and I'll probably use that as the smaller square. Thanks for your help!!!
Thank you for the tutorial. I have admired that pattern for some time but avoided it since it seemed so complicated! I imagined partial seams. Thanks for showing us how basic it is. I have been cutting out tons of 2” squares and think I’ll get a nice background color and actually begin!! Thanks for being so organized with your tutorial.
I have never seen that block made this way! Not a fan of Arkansas, but LOVE this block! Been looking for a masculine block for my near teen grandson, and I think this is the winner!!!
As an Auburn college sports fan, I am not terribly fond of Arkansas either, at times. Beautiful state though! So glad you like the block! Thanks for watching! ~Deborah
Our sew group are looking for a scrap quilt to start in September and I think this would be perfect as we could all make one and they would be so different. A fun project for our quilt show.
Oh yes, I completely agree! Would love to see photos of that in your show. If you do, maybe you can send me some photos through my webpage contact form. I would really love to see that. They would all be so different! Have fun! ~Deborah
Thank you for the formula and the straightforward explanation. Juust " found" you. Looking forward to the rest of your offerings. Uk patchworker eager to use upp a lot of my scraps, sorted and cut last week!
Thank you for this video. I cut 2.5” squares and other sizes out of leftover material and then sew the 2.5” squares together using the leader/ender method. That means when I finish sewing another block for another project I sew two 2.5” squares together on the end. This allows me to use a lesser amount of thread and also create extra blocks for another project, like this. So I will make this project out of 2.5” squares and the background will be 4.5” (2.5 x 2 = 5, then 5 minus 1/2” = 4.5”). Eventually will have all of the blocks created and sewn together to make this project. Love it many thanks.
I am just starting to sew. I'm making baby changing pads and burp clothes because I have 4 nieces and 5 friends expecting in the next few months. I have made 2 pads and 6 burp clothes. You can tell they are made by a beginner. Seams didn't line up, corners were bunched up, lines weren't straight, etc, but I figured they were still usable. This morning, I was so excited to get in there because yesterday I had the time to sit and cut all my blocks and sew them together, just the two squares. I squared them up. Pressed the seam and pressed them open. So this morning, I was going to start sewing them all together. I am not sure what happened, but the only block I completed took me almost 3 hours. My sewing machine, brand new, started acting up. My top thread was bunching up underneath. Looked up what was wrong. Then my bobbin was acting up. Fixed it. Then I started sewing squares together. Oh my gosh, I thought when I started because I squared them all up exactly the same size that the seams wouldn't be that hard to match up. Rude awakening it was awful. They didn't match. I sewed pieces right side together, yes something right, but then I started sewing wrong sides together. Either I sewed a right and wrong side, or both were back sides together. It was bad. I took so many seams out. I was ready to throw everything away. But finally, I got everything right sides together. I had some areas that didn't get sewed, or one end was longer. I may have had half the seams matching. In the end, I squared it up again and cut the whole thing from corner to corner both ways and flipped pieces and sewed it together. It is a mess, but I'm going to sew a back on and line it and call it a bag. My husband said our daughter would use it as a bag. Happy birthday to her. I'm going to try this block out, but after I use what I've already cut up.
Yep, this is the first video of yours I’ve watched. I hit the subscribe button. Thanks for ideas on using my scraps. I just wish my snowball blocks didn’t come out wonky.
Aww, keep practicing. It really helps to sew them as a square first then cut off the triangle part that you don't need. Pulling, even just a little, while sewing will stretch the fabric on the bias and make them wonky. You can do it! ~Deborah
Thank you so much for sharing this! I'm already going thru my fabrics in my head to decide which to use and what size I want to go with.😊 Thank you, too, for making the instructions so clear and easy to follow, it's the perfect combination of creativity and flexibility. This was my first video of yours, I'm subscribing and so look forward to more of your videos in the future.🎉
This is the last quilt my mom made before cancer took her. She had made a quilt for each of her 9 grandkids when they graduated from high school. My youngest was her 9th. Thank you for sharing!
I really like the quilt and the way you explained it! It's really neat to see new/old patterns and learn how to change them to the size that you want them/the blocks to be. Thank you so much!

Have fun! ~Deborah
Clearest teaching ever!

This is a great scrap buster. Thank you for this vi❤❤❤❤
You are so welcome! ~Deborah
THAT is perfect! I just love efficiency! So glad you liked it!! ~Deborah
I subscribed and plan on sewing the Arkansas Crossroads for my husband who was born there. Thank you.
Thank you so much and I just know he will love it!! ~Deborah
Hello Deborah. I enjoyed your video and will be watching you from now on. Your voice and instructions are very pleasant and helpful.
Oh my goodness! Well, I hope this block will go together for you a little easier :-). Thanks for watching!! ~Deborah
Just found you this morning. I'm now a new subscriber. I love this quilt and it amazes me how simple you made something that looks so complex.🎉
Still a great explanation for a scrap quilt📍
Thank you so much! ~Deborah
You make this look so easy. I washesitant about this block before, I'm going to do this one. Thanks
You can do it! Thanks for watching! ~DEborah
So glad you found it helpful and thank you so much for subscribing! ~Deborah
