    Good content Chad. One reason there was an improvement in handicap during the 90’s was because the transition from persimmon to metal woods. In person coaching and simply practicing on your own is way better than watching generic YT instruction for sure. Good to see you again Chad 👍🏌️‍♂️

    Chad, I agree with you. Along those same lines I believe you have viewership that are watching you and trying to find nuggets to help themselves. You also have a comment section full of golf swing experts that could all teach each other 😆. It's human nature to look for quick fixes and many golfers have found fairly efficient swings on their on. I still remember reading Golf Magazine, Golf Digest, etc as a 12 year old thinking I'd find something in it that worked for me.

    Nick Faldo said that the biggest advancement in golf over the past 30 years is launch monitors. Where pros would hit 1,000-2,000 balls and just feel and see their flights in order to practice they can hit 10% of that many and get better information and modify things to get all of the nuances "right".

    As a fairly new golfer my view is RUclips golf instruction is awesome. If I were able be on the course 4 days a week or able to dig my swing out of the dirt I would but I don’t have that luxury. For the investment of a few minutes which can happen anytime it fits I might find a tip worth gold or at the worst be entertaining. I’m happy in the fact that money I could use for private instruction usually goes for a kids baseball or volleyball mini camp or travel league. I’ll probably watch golf RUclips vids during that downtime between ubering (also something nobody could have dreamed) them there or back. I’m glad that maybe you have made $ 7.00 or so from me using you as my Amazon affiliate but I have certainly gotten a lot of entertainment & a nugget or two from your channel. Thanks Chad :)

    Chad, there’s a book called “A New Way to Better Golf” written by Alex Morrison around 1930, Nicklaus main teacher Jack Grout used many of Morrison’s principles as a foundation for his teaching, would really enjoy you examining some of those basic old school teachings that weren’t based body positions

    • @GolfTestDummy
      @GolfTestDummy  7 месяцев назад +1

      I'll have to check that out. I'm definitely familiar with Jack Grout, and that probably ties in with Jim Flick a bit.

      @@GolfTestDummy I can’t afford the book but there’s a site that has a great description of his fundamentals, even a picture of him at setup, just from that I’ll probably be better

    • @Ulster2
      @Ulster2 7 месяцев назад +1

      I have that book and essentially it’s about swinging the club around the body in a circular fashion. He also believes that fixing the chin at address and keeping it there helps centre the circular action. However the point entirely missed by everyone is the grip he advocates. On the left hand he puts his left thumb round the shaft not down the shaft. I’m in contact with a guy who has researched the golf swing for years but can no longer play. He has a small dedicated group of followers who use this grip and say it’s game changing. Longer in distance and better accuracy. All without reference to ground reaction forces.🏌️‍♂️😀

    • @mslu62
      @mslu62 7 месяцев назад +1

      @Ulster2 Pretty cool stuff for sure. If you move the pressure point of that lead thumb it changes things dramatically for the good. Instead of putting the thumb on top of the shaft or down the right side move it over to the leading edge of the shaft. Sounds crazy but definitely awesome. I can't disclose the person which turned me on to this but he is undoubtedly an awesome instructor. 👏

    • @Ulster2
      @Ulster2 7 месяцев назад

      @@mslu62 The guy I referred to maintains that the left thumb on the shaft is the major reason golf is so difficult for average player. He feels that the only way you can play the game with a conventional grip is with a hold off release and that is beyond the average golfer.

    In a world geared towards short attention spans, quick fixes, and dumbed down information youtube golf content creators often just describe the part of the elephant that best describes their particular method or bandaid of the moment. I've said before and still maintain that golf is so complicated that a swing in it's entirety needs to be taught to golfers that don't already have a technically sound swing, and in order to do so, you have to be able to understand EVERYTHING about that swing. Teaching people axioms and isolated movements is fraught with pitfalls. Even something like golftec is just providing people with a guide to getting closer to finding a workable swing but there will still be dynamics that the system is not addressing and that people end up discovering themselves. So understanding a swing well enough to be able to teach the dynamics of it down to the smallest detail is really the best answer in my opinion. Ideally a single individual could teach several swings to that degree of specificity but obviously that's a relatively tall order. To be clear this would be describing how the human kinetic chain is utilized to deliver excellent impact dynamics through a precise sequence of motions and the precise dynamics (in the body, space, and time) of those motions.
    Beyond game improvement features in clubs, online reservations, and virtual golf for off season game maintainance and occasasional quick convenient access during the golf season, II don't think that technology has done much to improve my golf experience in any significant sense. One area where I think that technology has caused problems though is in all of the slow motion material that's available, allowing things like lag tension and shaft lean to be very clearly observed. I personally think that trying to reproduce those things in their swings without the right set of compimentary moves has messed up a LOT of golfers. Thought provoking video as usual. Cheers.

    • @GolfTestDummy
      @GolfTestDummy  7 месяцев назад

      It's an interesting question, because the data shows that handicaps have dropped in recent decades, but the debate rolls on about what caused it. We're in the information age, where answers to any question you have , almost, are in your hand via smartphone. But with so much information available, it can be overwhelming to say the least.

    • @timothypollock8358
      @timothypollock8358 7 месяцев назад

      @@GolfTestDummy Well I'm not saying that technology hasn't helped many golfers with their games, I was just speaking personally because I was already a very good golfer and grew up with golf so a lot of things were already cemented into my game by the time technology became a prominent potential contributor to golfers' games. Certainly as I've commented in the past, the average swing that I see these days is way more technically sound in appearance than what I used to see when I was young. I think that's due in good part to the proliferation of exposure to good technique that technology affords the average golfer.
      No doubt at all about the overwhelming part, and unless you're an expert, how do you figure out whether something is someone's opinion, absolutely true, applicable, only applicable to another type of case, or false as you wade through the ocean of "information". Cheers.

    Chad, I agree with you 100%. Technology can certainly help you if used correctly and not be too heavily dependent on it, except for GPS and laser range finders. 99% of training aids are gimmicks that just won’t help you, and besides, most are trying to get you in a perfect position, which doesn’t exist. Yes, we need to be honest with ourselves on how far we hit clubs, this is one of the first step to getting better. RUclips is wonderful to view but, as you said, the tips are mostly useless because it probably does not apply to your specific swing problems, besides, one RUclipsr says one thing and another says the complete opposite, who do you believe and which, if any, applies to your problem? There are 50,000 different points of view for the same problem and “tips, magic moves, the only drill you need, or the secret no one tells you, etc.” isn’t ever going to help you permanently. We all need permanent solutions not band aids, and we cannot get them from RUclips nor a video coach. In person, in my opinion, is the best and only way to get better permanently. Video only shows 2D and we need 3D to really know what’s going on and why. Besides, your video may not be setup correctly and, thus, it’ll be skewed. You can improve with technology but you have to know what the data really means, how to read and interpret it, and then find the correct solution. Most amateur golfers are not knowledgeable nor experienced enough to do this nor is it wise to do your own problem solving. There’s an old legal saying: “he who represents himself had a fool for a client.” The same can be said for the golfer who tries to fix his on swing problems. If it was that easy the Tour pros wouldn’t have coaches. Apologies for rambling. Cheers

    Love the videos. I have been searching for my golf swing being a former athlete and Marcus Edblad has been the best for me. Thanks for recommending him. Side question: is there a difference between your real score on course vs e6 sim course? I’m a dad so I primarily only get time to play on sim and not in real life. If I shoot 1 over in sim doubt it will happen in real life 😂 Thanks and keep making good content.

      There are definite things that are pretty close to reality, but score is not one. At least for me. My record on E6 is 9 under lol. I routinely shoot under par on it. In reality, I'm probably a 6 to 8 handicap.

    Not hypocrisy at all. If anyone understands nuance, this is an extremely smart video. Nicely done, Chad.
    Regarding the tech side, I think it’s all about the ball. Compare what we’re hitting today versus what they hit maybe 20 years ago - night and day. Going from basically a ball as a bunch of wrapped rubber bands to all of these poly-wrapped, specialized-dimpled, multi layered balls have more to do with ball flight than the club. There are some balls that engineered to actually go further, some that are engineered to react a way around greens when chipping, and some are engineered to go a specific direction, ie shaping.
    Sure clubs have made a difference but no at the same rate. I’ve seen guys game with 30 year old clubs, but the ball they used made the bigger difference than a guy with similar skill playing newer clubs with crappy balls, or at least a ball that didn’t fit their game.
    It’s all about the ball.
    As an aside, on the topic of GPS, I’ve slowly gotten away from it and go with range finder and a good old fashioned yardage book. I’ve found that when I add my own markings and notes on a hole in the book, it helps me maintain focus. Sometimes the things were depending on when on the course actually takes our focus off the game we’re playing and more focused on the tech and the tech aspects of what said tech is “making” us do on a hole.

    • @GolfTestDummy
      @GolfTestDummy  7 месяцев назад

      Good points, and yeah, the ball has had the biggest impact. Everything adds to or detracts from in one way or another.

    Hi Chad
    Like you I have tried lots of different RUclips golf instruction methods, I’ve had in person lessons with a PGA Pros too. The best method I have found and the easiest to learn is Sam Goulden’s Square to Square swing. It just works. Same method for all clubs, just ball position changes. Have you had a look at it?
    Cheers

    Sup, GTD. I know you've tried everything but I don't see any video on "The Miracle Swing - OTT, My Swing Evolution." I'm currently using the"'The Reverse The Loop." That OTT is the opposite loop from the one I'm using. They claim you just drag it inside and hammer all you want with the strong right arm, no dropping in the slot he says. Says it's 100% natural way to swing and YOU have no video!!! Impossible for me to believe GTD isn't all over this like white on rice!! This is supposed to be HUGE.
    Capishe? Get on it. Also, I was not kidding about that pain you have - micro-dosing with dispensary weed could help. Better than big pharma toxic crap, laddie. Is it possible that you will have an epiphany with that OTT swing and convert? That's what I wanna see. Thanks, keep up the cool stuff.
    I just watched the very end of this video. That Miracle Swing title that guy has gets me in there. You're right.
