It still blows my mind, and lots of people think I'm full of it when I say it goes further than the regular drivers I've played. Today, in the cold and damp conditions, I was between 240 and 260 off the tee. A "real" driver wouldn't have pulled that off.
We have very similar bag setups. I bet you’d like the Maltby products from Golf works. A Clubfitter once told me the Tommy Armour line was designed by Maltby
Man, I reached out to them and they don't do affiliations or sponsorships. I've hit the 7 iron of one of the players irons and it's fantastic. Love them.
You found the driver! I'm working on finding that next club after the driver. I may experiment with a short 3 wood vs 4 wood. CBX are great wedges. Great video!
I totally get it. Last season I bought an old TM Aero Burner mini 16 dgr . I have always struggled with my driver. My ss is 97 mph and with a carry about 230 mtr but I have some issues in my hip so i cant really hit up on it and it mostly goes 30 mtr right of target :) The TM Aero mini carrys 215 on average and is in the fw or at least first cut. According to my Garmin stats (and my own) I have saved 5-6strokes. In the past I have experimented with 44 inch drivers with poor results. I think a mini driver is much heavier in the bottom sole and its also designed for downward strikes. Anyways.....Its works for me and I have just ordered a 12 dgr Aero mini. And the journey continues..............:)
When the CBX wedges came out they were an instant short game improvement for me but when the CBX2 wedges came out I upgraded to a better suited lofts for my game. They will be staying in the bag along with the Squareback 2 putter that has been fine tuned specs wise to my stroke. My Cobra driver from 2009 will be also be staying. After the Driver and before the wedges is up for grabs. 2 different sets will be battling it out. Either the Cobra Baffler XL hybrid Cobra T Rail iron combo set or the Thomas Golf at705 complete hybrid set will find their way into the bag.
I took my Ping G430 stiff graphite shaft driver out of my bag for the Mini 300 you have but added length to the shaft and never looked back. More distance and accuracy! I just treated myself to the new BRNR 13.5 regular graphite shaft and immediately replaced the shaft with a new 44.25-inch regular graphite shaft. I can't wait to start the season!
Man, the mini is a total weapon. I was so skeptical when I heard about them, but it's my driver by far, and it's not even a close race. Might try the BRNR but it would have to show a marked improvement over an already fantastic club.
What a great review. Just finished regripping 6-W on some old Apex blades with theJumbo’s to try. Love those grips. Thinking about the mini driver myself: Smaller head is easier to square up and hit flush. Are the Tommy Armour irons cast or forged? Could be why they’re weaker, but who cares? They work. Went with the Adams hybrids as mine are about 12 years old. If they’re as good as the old ones, I’ll be tickled pink. Like the new format a lot.
Thanks a lot! The TAs are cast, but the feel is awesome. Companies have gotten really good at making much better cast clubs. And as far as Adams goes, I'm so glad to see them throwing their hat in the ring again. Great stuff.
@@GolfTestDummy couple years ago I got some Callaway hybrids (4, 5 &6). Hit em okay, but not great. Picked up the old Adams and just smoked em. Hoping for the same magic with these🤞🏽. Hoping for some magic with the L.A.B. putter that’s coming this week. MEZZ.1 MAX. Only two car payments😏
@@GolfTestDummy thought you’d get a chuckle out of this sticker on my new putter: CAUTION! The magic is in these screws, do not mess with the voodoo! Removal will void the warranty. I must admit it feels like butter.
The TA 845’s are great clubs. The original 845’s from the early 90’s put a hurting on the iron business especially Ping. Everyone played them. The brand now I think is owned by Golf Galaxy/Dicks Sporting Goods and Maltby Golfworks. They’re really reasonable and you can get fitted for them. Good luck in 2024 and hit em straight.
I started playing these about a year and a half ago, and then tried some other balls to compare. But I came right back to these because they just seem to feel and perform better for my strikes. Love em.
The CBX wedges are legit. I've had a couple of setups where I had blades in the bag for the irons and still played the CBX 52° wedge. And I have a pretty good short game! It's just really stupid easy to use and ball flight is reliably predictable and consistent. I'm trying out Vokeys for the first time now and I really like them so far, but I wouldn't be surprised to see that 52° CBX make its way back into my bag. It's a weapon.
Nothing that is definitive proof for me, but strongly suspect that when a club "feels just right" when you swing it, looks get you to pick it up, but the shaft gives you the "feel". Combine the two, and you can get a club you have confidence in, which can be a genuinely magical experience...
Chad, what you're saying is use whatever clubs you can that produces the best swings for you. Club manufacturer is unimportant, so long as the club works for you. Used clubs, only a few years old, will perform just as good as the new ones, and you'll save a ton of money. The improvement in tech is never that great nor can most of us feel it or see it each year or two. Real leaps in technology improvement takes usually 5 - 10 years for us to see or feel. Cheers.
I've been working in the sim with them for a month or so, and yesterday played my second round. The front nine was pretty disappointing, but I around 8 or 9, I was able to get my head on straight and played to par the rest of the way. Few birdies, few bogeys. I was trying to find gaps in my bag, but I really didn't have any, and THAT'S the real magic to building a bag.
There Tommy Armor wedges that I got from Dick's are amazing. They are my favorite that I have tried. I kinda have that love for Tommy Armor clubs like you do.
I did give up on the Srixons, but I've got the Bombtech 3 wood in my garage still, lol. So far, I've played a few rounds and plenty on the sim. It's working beautifully.
Off today’s subject, have you experimented with the Easiest Swing Brian Sparks approach? Thanks for continuing to share your knowledge and openness to different swing thoughts.
I have been asked about it a lot, and I've seen lots of the easiest swing videos. I never officially did an in depth review, but it's really a worthwhile method. I have a neighbor that swears by it.
Haha, you might have some catching up to do. Toward the end of last year I made a couple of videos explaining why I'm not journeying down anyone else's path anymore.
Nope, I traded them in to help the cost of these. The Srixons felt great. Loved them. But, the extra distance and extra forgiveness I get with these is pretty considerable, and they are the same loft.
@@GolfTestDummy I was going to demo or get a used 5 hybrid first, then add on if I see consistency. It seems more beneficial on the longer clubs vs shorter, I know there can be gapping issues but I already have that.
Awesome bag I like it. I added a Burner mini driver this year at 13.5 and love it!

Ralph Maltby (Golfworks) and Tom Wishon have some fantastic designs, for sure.
You found the driver! I'm working on finding that next club after the driver. I may experiment with a short 3 wood vs 4 wood. CBX are great wedges. Great video!
I agree. The CBX wedges are just great tools. The sole and the design are fantastic.

Smart choices. Take bragging rights and the latest and greatest out of play, and make a smart decision.

I traded in two old clubs I seldom used and that made the cost $275 which I could pass up!@@GolfTestDummy
Golf a very personal form of entertainment to each his own.
I agree.

You're absolutely correct. The original 845s were like the P790s are today. In a ton of bags.
Excellent choices Chad 👍
Love the Maxfli Tour balls. Feel so good off the club

Yep, I agree. Be patient, wait a couple of seasons, then buy the clubs at half the price.
Glad to see that you're enjoying your clubs so much. It will be interesting to see how they work for you on the course. Cheers.

There Tommy Armor wedges that I got from Dick's are amazing. They are my favorite that I have tried. I kinda have that love for Tommy Armor clubs like you do.
I was honestly close to picking up the TA wedges, since I know my "well-used" CBX wedges are starting to show their age.
You gave up on those sweet Srixon irons and that Bombtec 3 wood? I do love this new setup... keep us posted on how it's working out for you.

I think so, too. I just played a round today and I gotta say, there really aren't any holes or gaps I'm worried about.

Nice bag are you not going to use the srixons anymore?
Nope, I traded them in to help the cost of these. The Srixons felt great. Loved them. But, the extra distance and extra forgiveness I get with these is pretty considerable, and they are the same loft.
I had the same srixons you had I traded for jpx 921 hot metals allot easier to hit
I’m thinking of dropping my 5&6 iron for hybrid…but possibly single length style for better control
I've gotta try some single length at some point. But spending hundreds on a coin flip experiment just isn't doable for me.
@@GolfTestDummy I was going to demo or get a used 5 hybrid first, then add on if I see consistency. It seems more beneficial on the longer clubs vs shorter, I know there can be gapping issues but I already have that.
DOD King hates tees... don't be a tee using weasel 🤣🤣 his channel is funny this kid cracks me up... try reaching out to him for a round 🤷♂️
I've heard of him, briefly seen him, but haven't really watched any of his stuff. These younger guys are just crushing the ball.
Blue collar bag👍
Yeah, I agree. This is a working man's bag.
