  • Put on your surgeon's mask and gloves, it's time to operate! Life & Death puts you in the shoes of an abdominal surgeon fresh out of med school. While the goal is to save lives, whether or not you want to play by the rules is up to you.

    I love how the game tells you that carving "FART" into a patient "wasn't the proper procedure".

    I don't think you realize something... One of the very first videos I did here was a quick review on The Sims 3. That got me my initial audience. Around this time I also started pursuing my other interests in vids, like vintage hardware/software. The Sims games are a part of my life & a big part of what I do here. It's always been this way on this channel and will stay that way so long as they keep releasing them. I still do way more retro vids than Sims ones, I don't see why you're complaining.

    Wow all those little extras included with the game like the fake letter and cool booklets. You just don't get those extra touches anymore, now you're lucky to get a 2 page "manual"

      yeah and the actual tutorial is mandatory in EVERY game rather than printing it in that book so that it doesn't conflict with the experience of the game itself.

      I honestly miss that. I remember being seriously excited when Working Designs rereleased the LUNAR series on the PlayStation back in the day, and where most companies would have just pushed out a simple port and been done with it, WD rebuilt the game from the ground up with bonus features included, included a soundtrack CD, a Behind The Scenes DVD including outtakes and such, and threw in a hard cover instruction book with concept art, comparisons between the original and rerelease, and a "getting started" strategy guide. /That/ made me excited about games again... so of course the company collapsed. =(

    I had the PC version, no pager/copyright system. I could never properly operate on a patient. The scalpel would always kill the patient, and a screen of red would descend. Those manuals would have been some help...

  • @LGR
    @LGR  12 лет назад +2

    Actually, the graphics are arguably better on the Mac version even though they're in black and white. The resolution is higher and the graphics are more detailed, so it's a bit easier to do surgery.

    I freaking love Carnivores. What an intense hunting game, especially when you get past the herbivores and start going after the straight up carnivores. Incredibly satisfying to walk around your trophy room after a successful hunt, hehe. The later games in the series are pretty good too, but the original two games are still my preference.

    Makes the game as tough as possible. Patients die easier, surgery is harder, the deadlier diseases are more common, etc.

  • @LGR
    @LGR  12 лет назад +3

    No. Sorry. I think I've said this to you before, but I got rid of it because it was more trouble than it was worth. Lots of people complained about it being unnecessary and somewhat aggravating, and I agree. It did nothing to improve the video in any substantial way. Stats show that most skipped it or left the video before it was done. Plus I had it for a long time and I got bored of it. It's not coming back. I will continue to tweak the current intro, but the old ones as they were are done for.

    Yes, but they just don't release stuff as often as I do. For instance Pat just released a new NES Punk review the other day, and JewWario is also on RWTV now with his You Can Play This series. But I'm one of the few that release something new every week. A lot of them stay pretty darned busy with other things, like running the site, working on The Video Game Years and all sorts of stuff behind the scenes.

    Just to chime in, even though the Apple IIGS had less CPU horsepower than the Amiga, it could actually display more colors at once. The Amiga was limited to 32 colors at once total, while the IIGS could potentially do 3200 colors with a different 16 color palette for each scanline, though realistically most games only used up to 256 colors.

    Not according to the stats I have. Seriously, most people either skipped or left the video entirely due to the intro. I got lots of emails all the time about how it was aggravating, or they heard the intro music and thought they were being Rick Roll'd. Nobody seemed to say anything positive about it when I used it, and now all of a sudden a few people want it back. I can't win, so I'm not even playing that whole "intro" game anymore.

    This game cracks me up so much. I can't tell you how many times I've successfully completed surgery only to be told that I forgot to take out a butterfly clip. One thing I noticed is that the x-ray looks way better in the Apple IIGS version than the DOS version. I always had tons of trouble deciphering what was going on in the x-ray when playing my DOS version, and more than a few patients suffered because of it.
