Glad you put in the ditches to slow water or to drain in one direction. Farms up here have lost acres of land along the Nolichuckey. Some have lost their barns , livestock , homes & lives. The Nolichuckey has changed its course taking tons of land with it. Thanks to people all over the USA 🇺🇸 for helping out if they could. 🙏 👍
@cervus-venator The day after it hit & some water receded one community of farmers got their skid steers , backhoes & tractors to clean off a bridge that was covered in logs & lumber. The County showed up later to help. Concrete Bridge above & 1 below it were gone. Sections of Interstates 26 & 40 towards NC are gone. Places in NC are even worse. 😢🙏✝️
The ditches worked which is all that matters really. It was worth doing it for sure. Were you the only one in the area that did this or was everyone else doing this as well?
As far as I know I was the only one. I looked at a couple of other fields and saw a lot of dirt in the roads that washed out, but i didn't see bad damage. A lot of the true farmers have levies built into their fields to keep them from washing. One day i may be able to do that myself.
Its hard to control that much water. I bet you had 3 inches an hour for several hours. Last tropical system that came through here flooded the street past my sidewalk.
@@bayoumike544 Yeah, I'm sure. Myself living 170 miles north of the FL big bend area has given me more than enough experience with these things as well. Not like someone that lives on the coast, but close enough.

Certainly Bill, the damage this hurricane brought is life changing. Praying for all those affected by this tragedy.

Hi Cervus! It is amazing how powerful rain can be!
Yes it is! Thanks Charles!
Your prep work paid off. 👍
Yes, I agree Jeff that it certainly helped.
Man, that water moved a lot of dirt around. Good thing you didn't get that 3 feet of rain they got in NC!
I am so thankful that we just got what we did and I am praying a lot for the people that got the worst of this storm.
Good prep work , water erosion is a tough one.
Yes it is. Even with the preps it still was able to do some damage.
I think you did the right thing giving the water a place to go. Oh, and remind me to tell my wife what 5" can do
LOL!!! Five inches can be a powerful thing sometimes.
👍👍not to bad
No not too bad considering the amount that fell in a short time. The ditches certainly helped to prevent any major washing.
Hey Cervus I’d say we got that much here but it soaked it up it was dry
It was pretty dry here too, but I don't think nearly as bad as yall had it.
The main thing is youre safe
Thanks Paul! I'm praying a lot for the people that were hit hard just to the north east of us.
Very hard to stop that much water that came mostly at once
Yes, I could have built a big berm across the field, but them I would have had a lake in the middle of the field.

That bites, but for 5 inches it could have been a lot worse.
I agree Bob. Thanks!

I'm sure it came down quick and hard based on the runoff through out the field and the full ditches. It did at the house.
@@cervus-venator Got to remember I'm on the Gulf Coast and have been through them quite a few times.

I wouldn't wait around for a biden aid package lol
You got that right. I'm sure they'll figure out some way to tax me on the extra water I got.
@@cervus-venator lol
Over all I would say not to bad could have been worse.
Yes, it's not too bad at all really. I've seen worse back before I knew to cut ditches to slow the flow.
You would have had a major mess if you hadn't taken the time to prepare for the worst.. 👍
I think you're right Mike. I would have had major cutting down to the hard pan again I'm sure.
