- Here in Texas, we don't put beans in our chili. We like it full of flavor and spice, and I add a little beer for an extra flavor kick. @@maartenvz not super basic to be honnest with you, you need some good cookware (enamel pot) and to know the basics of european food, like temperatures, coloring, sents an timings. To me, but I may totally optimistic, that looks like a pretty deacent european take from a basic american legendary dish, notice how she deglazed her "soffrito" or "julienne de légume" with even low percentage alcoholic beverage. Looks pretty much like a low-budget ; low-hasstle ragu alla bolognese or could evenlok like a low-budget boeuf bourguignon if you add it some pork and the right temperature/pression/time combo.
As an european and cook enthusiast this girl got some culinary skills.

When i moved to Texas and put beans in my chili, you’d of thought I shot my dog in the middle of the street. Chili with no beans is just meat soup.
Texans seem so insecure about any hint that they might be poor I'm surprised they ever eat bread, rice or potatoes over there.

Try browning your tomato paste and deglazing with the onions…trust me
Toast the spices too before adding the liquids.
I like to saute the veggies first then go in with the tomato paste and declare with broth before adding the beef. I don't use near that much tomato paste though.

That’s my trick for getting rid of the sweet taste to the tomato! Ha!
I like to season the seeds before I plant them into the ground. So when they are grown the tomatos are already flavorful.
Idk about award winning. Super thin and a very basic recipe
I think cooking it for longer would have been a great remedy.

@@foursidekm There's actually a lot of truth to that. Complicated certainly doesn't always equal good. I've made basic chili recipes that tasted much better than my complicated ones.

I've never understood the gate keeping around beans in Chili. Beans are yummy, chili is yummy, beans in Chili are yummy.
They're fine but the gate keeping goes the other way. People saying it requires beans in order to be good. Which is false, and shows that these people are not capable of differentiating between facts and opinion. They don't know how to discern preference from necessity which makes them POOR COOKS. They cant make good food and any meat or beans or fresh herbs and vegetables that they buy is frankly wasted on them.
@@schnoz2372 Apologies for the necromancy, but on average the people who say chili isn't great without beans aren't saying chili without beans isn't chili. On the other hand, I've seen a person in almost every comment saying they like beans coping over how chili with beans isn't chili and that it's antithetical to the origin of the dish.
That hits far closer to gatekeeping than overemphasizing the need for beans for it to be good. Is that stupid too? Sure. Nobody asked. I don't think it's gatekeeping in the same way excluding chili with beans from "actual" chili is, though.
(an aside, but that last bit was wild. Playing into the chili discourse online has no bearing on your quality as a cook, just how tolerable you are to talk to xD)

To be fair, Chili doesn’t have beans. Don’t get me wrong, I love to put beans in Chili. It’s no longer chili once I put beans in but I totally agree that it tastes great. It’s like garlic in bolognese - bolognese doesn’t have garlic, doesn’t mean it doesn’t taste good if you include it, but bolognese with garlic in it is no longer bolognese.

Oh for the..... people with the beans. Fun fact, the beans were added when the cooks were short on meat that was about to go rancid. They were never supposed to be in Chili. That's why the can says "with beans" ! Ever seen a chili can labeled "without beans" ????

@@Iluvepetunias yeah it does. Flavor wise but mainly texture wise. If you don't have beans in there then you are chewing on rough ground beef covered in sauce. Sure you can put it on hot dogs or something but then you lose out on texture and it's less versatile. Not to mention that it's way less enjoyable to eat by itself.

18th generation Texan. All the way back to the founding of San Antonio. Chili here more often than not will have beans. Tomatoes too. But never paste. There are a thousand other slight variations, to each his own. But nothing I have ever had with beer IN it is worth eating. The beer is to drink while you are cooking. Offered a bowl of THAT, I would slap it to the ground and walk away.
