Gotta love Steven for making a '70's record in the 10's
I think opeth did too
Man, Marco is an amazing improviser. 3:34 You can tell that he's coming up with the parts on the spot. He even caught Steven off guard with the 4/4 transition, which I bet he didn't play before.
He does that a lot with other bands, especially with the Aristocrats. He doesn't even have a chart here and he's playing the parts differently every time.
It's actually amazing how he can still sound good while doing that. It's actually quite difficult.
This isn't the same solo as the final studio cut, so it's pretty obvious Guthrie is improvising every solo. Awesome.
Are you talking about the drummer
@@behindthen0thing525 Guthrie Goven is the guitarist.
2:05 Holy shit. I finally figured out where he gets is guitar power from. Look at his mouth during the the solo. He's chanting an incantation. The dude is actually a god damn wizard.
Allan Parsons mixing!! Guthrie Govan, Marco Minnemann.... like Christmas time!
I love how at 3:37, Steven is frantically tapping his foot to stay in time.
An interesting thing I've noticed about Guthrie soloing, he moves his mouth while soloing almost like he's literally singing through the guitar. Like if he was born with a good voice he would have used it to express himself but he can't so he uses the guitar.
The video is so dope that it's 4:20
Nice
this is gonna be the best album of 2013 i'm sure
Yup! I don't get how people don't like Steven Wilson...
"Was it just me that lost it then?"
::looks around blankly::
HAHAHAHAHAHA
Great comedy from SW.
(Especially) Guthrie Govan and Marco Minnemann always fascinate me! No matter, which video... Each one is an absolute pleasure and a guarantee for addiction! I totally love this music (as a prog "metalhead") and this deep atmosphere within it! If music was a language, then THIS is amazingly eloquent!
(Why the hell did youtube change the rating system?! I´d give SIX stars for this!) ;)
Fcking hell Marco playing in Flip Flops hahahahaha what a beast :-)
I love how happy and playful and appreciative of each other they all are. This is what makes great music. :)
yiaaah agreeeeee
I was introduced to Steven Wilson through Porcupine Tree through Rush back in '07 when Lifeson played the solo on Anesthize. Both Rush and Wilson are what music is all about: integrity.
Raven is just an incredible masterpiece. For me, it sits with Selling England by the Pound and Ummagumma as THE most amazing musical achievements of the last 100 years (ya I know, I forgot jazz and Tool)
Was this album all recorded live?!
I have a feeling this album will be a masterpiece
You were right.
Kinda hard not to be with these guys. Basically a supergroup.
Love that you got a clip of the ping pong in here! Come play again anytime :)
This is such a fantastic bunch of musicians!!! I'm so happy I saw them live in 2013 during the Raven tour!!
If the music sounds this good, I can only imagine what the lyrics must be like. Those have always been incredible from Steven Wilson. Dear God I can't wait
i love when at the end Steven looks around like: "and now what?"
'what happens now' :)
It's thrilling to watch these videos again after hearing the mind blowing album!
I just want to understand, you are not a fan of "million notes per second", right? Exactly this happened to DT. I like them a lot and have heard them live several times, but they "evolved" to that, pure technique without soul. This SW album is fantastic. It has what DT is missing now. I hope you bought it, it doesn't disappoint.
What a great group of musicians, Love to see all this recording stuff.
The artists, the tunes.. This is incredible!
I'm so incredibly stoked for the release!
Oh my god! This sound...AMAZING! Steven is on a creative peak right now and something tells me his new album is going to blow our heads off!
What a fantastic footage!
I just love how professional they are, playing these complex music and make it looks easy! also the good humor between them..HOPE I DONT FALL OVEEEEER AAA!
I can't wait to hear this track in its entirety!!! As well as, can't wait for the next SW album with all these guys on it. It's so refreshing to hear music that is truly progressive...
can't wait to buy this! thank you for all of these snippets.
I know that with most pop stars, they go to a studio and record, and someone is mastering it. Steven Wilson is clearly very competent with music. He writes the parts for all of the instruments, but is he also doing the sound engineering and producing the album?
Yes he does. He also did production for other bands (opeth)
Holy macaroon, Guthrie! That.... was TOTALLY amazing!!!! Please say you're going to be part of the live band as well. And thank you, Steven, for letting us get these glimpses of the creative process. Really looking forward to the album!
That transition from room mic to the recording was specially nice... I wish that stayed in the album.
This is simply wonderful
From what I've heard so far, this doesn't just sound like an amazing album... It sounds like THE amazing album.
Steven Wilson Rules!
This is the new face of prog! Inventive, refreshingly surprising , intelligent and emotionally charged!
Thanks for such beautiful music!
Steven Wilson's so good, he's both playing and in the recording booth taking care of the mixing.
I'm already lovin' it... Thank's for posting this!
Love these videos.....
This sounds so amazing.
Nick Beggs is hilarious!
First album I'm going to preorder. I'm so excited.
More please!!!!
Clearly you haven't heard the solo for Drive Home yet. I love Vai, don't get me wrong, but God Guthrie just kills it in that song
Awesome on so many levels!
We are in front of the BEST group of musician EVER!
Increible ya espero el sigiente disco y para las ansias a comprar get all you deserve! Grande steven!
Govan was such a great addition. I'm already more excited for this one than I was for GfD.
Steven is so funny. Damn, I'm getting excited for this album :)
Marco is really starting to shine here! And I wasn't his biggest fan when they played live, to be honest. And just the whole band in general. This is some truly great stuff
Dude that's so weird, that's how I was introduced to PT! Through the Lifeson solo in Anesthetize, i then listened to the actual song and it became my favorite PT song to date.
What a lineup! Should be awesome!!
I broke out laughing it when Steven was looking around to see if anyone else lost it
Also, these videos make me proud that I use ATH-M50s
isn't enough dozens of amazing Porcupine Tree albums and 2 amazing solo albums? are we watching the construction of another masterpiece by Mr. Steven Wilson?
Sounds freakin AMAZING!!
helllooo king crimson! sounds amazing
looks like so much fun
My godness, it seems that it'll turn out nicely eventually - '70s vibe like hell!
damn, three of my favorite musicians are going to be on this album, my god i can't wait!!! >
Very awesome drummer. What his name. ?
pretty much the most talented drummer in existence :)
where has he gone? he has a new drummer now
Steve Wallace now ? He's still touring with his awesome band The Aristocrats (where he plays with Guthrie Govan on guitar who's also in SW band), and occasionally playing in Joe Satriani's band. He just finished the G3 tour with his band The Aristocrats along with Satriani and Steve Vai
Thanks .....i will check them out
Steve Wallace you won't regret it :)
this album is EPIC, the best conteporary album !!! greeting from Chile !! (sorry for my english)
wtf, where did the guitar solo go at like 2:15 ? i saw the same video last week and it was there !! came back here just to hear it again... damn it !
wow!!! when is the album coming out!
love this,,,,sounds a bit like Shine On You Crazy Diamond in parts,,and thats no bad thing,Steven Wilson keeping prog alive, brrrrillliant!
which three in particular?? Hard to choose because everyone in this group is a phenom
Awesome... amazing...
Sounds fucking great !! Cant wait to hear the final stuff !!
MOAR
Can we stay at 0 dislike for this brillant artist ?
Great stuff.
damn it! i can't stop watching the shit out of these videos. i need this album NOW!!! Oh February where are you? :(
Awesomeness!
Nothing beats the sound of a Hammond Organ
This album is gonna be so awesome I think I'm gonna be sick once I have a listen....
Guthrie humbly sets the world straight with a guitar solo AGAIN
Dear god, this sounds fucking amazing.
I can't help but notice that the length of this video is 4:20. Steven, why are you in California again? >...>
Baseline sounds a lot like Shine On. Lovin' it.
Go Stevie!!!
Is this the recording of the new Steven Wilson album? when will it be out?
Marco = Beast Mode Activated
This album is going to be so fucking good.
i have guthrie govan, marco minneman and of course, steven wilson, and i dont really know any of the others unfortunately, know them only for this, but if they are in stevens recording band now, i guess they are some of the most talented musicians around :)
what's that written is Steven's tees
Enjoy Life With...... ??
Sandyp Hendro music =)
Perfect Christmas Music :D
Making a history!
@Eray Uygun I agee. If he did joined DT then I would have never gotten to see his amazing drumming with Steven Wilson's band.
Hell yeah brother! :D That's why I love both bands! No doubt, if Pink Floyd had started in the 90's, they would be called Porcupine Tree :)
Steven Wilson and Guthrie Govan? Well, that's a sight to see.
Guthrie Govan is the only guitar player on this planet (that I know (and I know many)), that I don´t "replace" in my mind, in case of "I want, that´s me, playing in this video!"
And this has one simple reason:
I LOVE (!) to see HIM playing!!! I LOVE HIM!!!! I just fell in love with this guy (and I´m heterosexual!!!) :DDD
I got the same vibe from this!
I would qive my soul to be in this place
First 20 seconds reminded me of spinal tap's Stonehenge :) This is pretty damn awesome!
at home, watching this vid
Marco has the most infectious laugh ever.
I CANT FUCKING WAIT FOR THIS ALBUM TO COME OUT OMG!!! IM CUMMING IN MY PANTS OMG!!! IM STILL TYPING IN ALL CAPS OMG!!!
So....I hope recording hasn't stopped after day two.. ;)
Jesus, to this day it's so hard to believe that he's 45 :P So true!
Also, I've never heard a guitar solo like that before... That really blew my mind O_O
"The Watchmaker"?? Has SW been listening to Rush this year?! :D
-M.
Sweet!
