      He doesn't always wear shoes, but when he does, he wears chuck taylors. (Never seen him wear anything else)
      He should do a commercial for Converse, like the guy that does the alcohol commercials ''I don't always drink beer..but when I do''

      Hi Reid. It’s my former best friend- that he tried to sleep with (she didn’t). Steve also knows my fave musician that got outed for sleeping with too many fans recently. I never wanted to be dragged into this shit but spoiled white famous guys are going to do what their entitled, lying selves have always done. You can believe me or not but it’s true. This guy is a pretentious a-hole.

      Chuixupu Having a family is a great thing. I feel like this generation (my generation) is making it seem 'cool' or whatever.

    • @Chuixupu
      @Chuixupu 7 лет назад +80

      Of course it is - but it's not for everyone. The point is, you have a family because you want to have a family, not because people tell you that you should or that something is wrong with you if you don't. The vast majority of people get married and have kids. No need to worry that it might suddenly be "uncool". More importantly, what an individual chooses for themselves is nobody's business but their own.

    • @bassinblue
      @bassinblue 7 лет назад +7

      Chuixupu Of course. It's all down to choice but unfortunately some people are pressured by family and this makes them toxic towards their kids that they didn't plan and to a husband/wife they don't really love deeply.

    I worked with Steven Wilson's father, Mike, an electronics engineer working on the latest mobile phone technology back in the 80s (who has sadly now passed away). I play and record myself and through the conversation I leaned his son did the same thing, playing and recording in his bedroom. The next day he introduced me to one aspect of Steven's music by passing me a cassette with some No Man material on it and I loved it, particularly 'Days In The Trees'. I've followed his progress ever since, right up to the present Hand Cannot erase.

      What is stuck in my ears - I thought that it's quite delusional thing - that if you're married than you haven't time for music. Usually, marriage helps to be more creative and happy which is pushes your ability to do something a lot.
      I just mean that one shouldn't sacrifice something, Steven wasn't sacrificed family bc he didn't want to have it really. It's just a thought mostly for young people who may think that marriage will ruin their musicianship, but they shouldn't decide this question relying on music ambitions, only on their real needs.
      I had a wife-musician and we practiced together and we still playing in one band as best friends, and marriage like this is the best thing possible.
      I think, Steven could regret this decision with ages. Nonono, I don't say everybody should get married - it's something purely individual, I mean, I think it's possible. Maybe not, Also I know ones who feel ok)

    • @zilvinaspredkus6456
      @zilvinaspredkus6456 6 лет назад

      Yeah but neither you nor your wife are world class musicians, now are you? He didn't say that if you're married you don't have enough time for music. What he said is that he sacrificed one ultimate thing (family) to reach another ultimate thing (musicianship). Also from what you're saying I feel that you're one of those few examples, where marriage hasn't ruined relationships and everything around it. So in short, I feel happy for you, just know, that what you have is quite rare, and so saying marriage is the best thing possible... for many it is not.

    • @bxp_bass
      @bxp_bass 6 лет назад

      Zilvinas Predkus we are beginner musicians and we're working in such niche that is totally not about fame or something. I don't know couples who are unhappy with their relationships btw. Also, it all with sacrificing would be reasonable in case of statistics proving this point. But it's not. A half of greatest musicians (or even more) are married or/and have children and they're happy. Also, the majority of most popular youtube musicians are married: Rick Beato, Scott Devine. Tyler from Music Is Win, etc...
      I mean, nowdays marriage isn't built on traditions and forcing, so it means it doesn't affects the quality of relationships. More, it makes it deeper and warmer.
      And what is triggers me the most: this delusional view of marriage is mainstream now. And that song of Blackfield which sarcasticly says that family man is something shameful and bad. Is it ok?
      Again, i don't say that to be single is something bad, but they're saying that to be married is bad! Truth is: one should find a couple that will supportive and loving. And then it helps you to improve your musicianship. Otherwise you spend too much time and nerves on many occasional relationships which are never go any further.

    Re: when the Beatles were releasing albums so much more frequently than these days, one thing Steven fails to remember is that the record companies in those days *required* bands to work at that kind of pace: 2 LPs, 2 EPs, and 4 singles per year, or whatever it was. Bands like The Beatles or The Who or The Beach Boys essentially signed up for that kind of work schedule (plus all the touring) because it was the norm back then. They didn't really *enjoy* it, and bands these days work at a slower pace because it's more healthy and sustainable.
    Then again, I think there's something to be said for working against a schedule to give a band a kick in the butt to just get on with it, but the glory days of the 60s and 70s were very different for many reasons.

    At the time I met Steven´s music (ten years ago?) you couldn´t find here in Argentina any cds of him. At all. So I met his music and he became a huge influence of me because of mp3s. And he was even able to come to Buenos Aires because of this digital era.
    I´m happy to see that he finally understood some of this concepts (as he changed his view about streaming, for example). I just wonder if the complaints you and Steven make are just the same every generations but in different shape (concepts like music and entertainment, people experiencing music other than just listening to it, the experience of a concert and so on). Not sure if society listening to music has gotten worse. It´s just different. Yeah, even the mobile screens in a show.

    I'm stunned to hear that Dark Side isn't one of his favorites. I never heard of Steven Wilson till a few years ago and discovered him on RUclips after doing a search for Progressive Rock.
    I'm 62 and have maybe less than ten albums that I consider my all time favorites and Steven's 'Hand Cannot Erase' is one of those. His joins albums like Dark Side, Allman Brothers at East Filmore and a hand full of others for me. When you have an album you enjoy like these, it's ridiculously inexpensive...as if they're paying you as you get so much enjoyment from them over and over again. Thank you Steven for your hard work and your creativity

      Indeed, though he's often been quoted as saying that people expect him to be perpetually sad, when he's mostly a happy guy; he realizes it seems like a disconnect. I've also heard him say that it's BECAUSE his music is often sad that he isn't; it's like he's exorcised his sadness via music.

      forgiven for the shamelessness and the the plug is readily and gracefully accepted. it breaks my heart to know that he wants to move on without realising he is what he is because of PT and PT was his brainchild. he should rather put his other projects on hold or on the side and focus on PT and his solo career. I respect him as an individual, as a musician and he has the right to make his own choices, but there are far many bigger things than his own personal decisions, most importantly the fans and their anticipation of PT. i attended the pune gig and it was fantastic. i knew all the 5 PT songs but i was only properly aware of a couple or 3 songs from his solo project. i wish to see at least gavin harrison back on his solo project if PT isn't ever going to reunite.

    • @anuragtagat8905

      Look, he is a truly independent and autonomous artist. A rare species theese days. He always tries to find the perfect ways to express himself, his thouhts and feelings about things he's interested in. He's not an entertainer who do what audience expect from him and whose main goal is commercial success. PT was as much his own project as SW band. All the PT songs were his own brainchildren. SW Band is nothing else but a new part, a new era in his life as an artist. Consider PT as a part of his past.

    A friend of mine took me to a SW show not too long ago. I had'nt heard any of his music before hand and had no idea what I was in for. I can honestly say it changed the way I look at music. It was an extraordinary experience. Almost a huge orchestral piece broken into seperate movements. It blew me away sonicly alone. Then there is the visual factor that is not overly stimulating unless the moment calls for it. There is a reason some of the best musicians in the world team up with Steven. A fantastic musician and writer that should be mort famous. Most wouldn't appreciate it however, I think. Eh, different strokes.

    I don't really enjoy using streaming sites like spotify and youtube, etc. But i do it out of necessity. I live and grew up in a small hamlet, outside a small town in Canada, and i have listened to and discovered hundreds of bands and artists via the internet and streaming, that i would never have been able to otherwise . I buy as much as i can on CD or Vinyl (its a trek to get anywhere that really sells them) and most of what i like, i cant find. So streaming was important to me, because it allowed me to explore and learn and discover, and then enjoy and experience a wealth of music that wouldn't have been available to me without it.

    Don't worry Steve, some of us put the headphones on, at work, in the street, in the car on long trips, to get plunged into orgasmic music, and forget all about the surrounding world (not super popular a behaviour among the colleagues, especially in a responsibility-entailing job, even when on pause),
    And some of us also decided to sacrifice their homan instinct to have kids (for other reasons though, but same result),
    And also, some of us try to spread your excellent music around them, notably to make people who listen to generic crap what music is, but also to people who know music but still don't know you.
    So thank you for doing what you do
