It's kind of funny how, last q&a, he was like "I don't watch television or play videogames, I think those things are a waste of time" And now he's like: "The new Twin Peaks is so good! and The Last Day of June - Wow! Who knew videogames can actually tell a story!" It's like he's slowly discovering the world around him. Next thing you know he's gonna start wearing shoes
According to this Q&A, his only involvement was giving them the go-ahead to make it. Of course he's still gonna be biased towards a game he's gonna make money off of, but it's nice to see him opening up to the idea of video games as a form of art
I'm a new fan of Steven Wilson. Also love that he is accessible on RUclips with interviews. I found The To The Bone documentary very interesting. After watching the documentary, I immediately bought the album on vinyl and CD.
Steve is awesome, he always has something insteresting to say. He's the kind of person, with which even if you don't quite see eye to eye on every subject. you are still excited to here his opinion.
Fascinating conversation with Steven as always. I hope he continues releasing albums till he's old and grey! He has great taste, Max Richter is awesome
It took me awhile to get into this album. Pariah was an instant favorite, but the rest took some time to absorb. Now, I think it's one of his very best. So happy I gave it the time it deserves.
"I became a vegetarian quite simply because I don't think human beings have any right to eat animals ... I think the human race has evolved to the point where we don't need to eat animals ... This argument that we're somehow part of the food chain doesn't work, because we've long since evolved to the point where we're no longer part of the food chain." Steven, I am now even more a fan. Well said, sir. How much better the world might be if we extended the same compassion to animals that you do.
great interview great musician and seems a down to earth gent who speaks a lot of sense.so good to watch an interview where every sentence doesn't have a "you know" or "like" just answers question's normally.
Somehow I think Steven might actually enjoy a game like "Heavy Rain". Picturing him checking out a VR game is an interesting thought as well. :D Great Q&A once again, I hope there will be more at some point!
Hello Steven, I am a fan and so is my wife and my father and we went to your concert in São Paulo. We really think you should reconsider having a family, maybe that experience will bring you even more inspiration to your music. I have been a father recently and it brings you a really unique wisdom.
I like that he's a fan of Jóhann Jóhannson. His film scores on many of Denis Villeneuve's films have been exemplary so far, and so original too - which is why Denis continues to recruit him for his films. Sicario and Arrival indeed where phenomenal. And I love his rendition of the Vangelis Blade Runner theme as well while watching the current trailer. Can't WAIT for Blade Runner 2049 - and I'm sure Jóhann will score the new Dune adaptation too! :) As for the new record - I haven't listened to any of the songs revealed thus far. I'm aware of the criticisms leading up to the album's release - and I do credit him for not retreading his material, however, my expectations for the album aren't high either.
I was an original pessimist after hearing the 1st 3 poppy videos upon release, and was wondering whether I made a mistake of shelving 57 euro on a concert ticket for March 2018. However, the To the Bone album grows on you, and the only song I cannot and will not accept is Song of I. He didn't tour Ireland for the HCE, which I would have loved to see, as that album was pure beauty. I got to see the Joyce Carol Vincent Dreams of a Life which inspired him to write HCE, and after watching that, my faith has been restored. To be honest, I don't want to know the list of songs he plays and the surprise songs he includes, because he usually tours with the same setlist for the whole tour. Hopefully, Nick Beggs, Adam Holzman etc will be in the lineup too
Doesn't really work like that. I know lifelong vegetarians that look older than dirt and have health issues. And then there's my grandmother that is 101 that hasn't really ever done anything unusual diet wise and she's got nothing wrong with her other than getting senile. There are a lot of things that affect our health and many of them are in our genetics.
Porcupine Tree deserve a documentary, or a road movie as well. This band left a legacy for a thousands of prog rock bands which was influenced due the band.
I'm surprised Steven isn't excited by the rock scene at the moment, there is some great stuff around that he probably hasn't listened to. look forward to the new album.
Felipe Díaz Bo I'm not entirely sure but I believe it was due to a different record company having released them, or something like that. I think SW addressed it in his last live Q&A or a somewhat recent interview.
Never heard of steven wilson before.and then after heard hes making project progresive metal band with opeth/ex bloodbath mikael akerfeldt i think i start listen to their storm corrosion band song😁🤘☕
The November 2015 Paris attacks were a series of coordinated terrorist attacks that occurred on Friday 13 November 2015 in Paris, France and the city's northern suburb, Saint-Denis.[11] Beginning at 21:16 CET, three suicide bombers struck outside the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, during a football match. This was followed by several mass shootings, and a suicide bombing, at cafés and restaurants. Gunmen carried out another mass shooting and took hostages at an Eagles of Death Metal concert in the Bataclan theatre, leading to a stand-off with police. The attackers were shot or blew themselves up when police raided the theatre.[12]The attackers killed 130 people,[2] including 89 at the Bataclan theatre.[13] Another 368 people were injured,[4] almost 100 seriously.[5][6] Seven of the attackers also died, while the authorities continued to search for accomplices.[3] The attacks were the deadliest on France since World War II,[14][15] and the deadliest in the European Union since the Madrid train bombings in 2004.[16]
So... All these years I've been making magical songs but now I want to explore and I'm aware I'll lose fans but hopefully I'll get new ones? I have to be honest AUCH
Didn't think he would be that talkative and nice... Never seen him beeing interviewed before. By his stageprensence and how he moves and looks on stage(PT and solo shows) I always thought he's authistic in some way. Turns out he's a competly normal human being.
I do think it's rather smart of him to keep his private life private. we really don't have the right to know more than any human wants us to know about them, and he is one of those independent thinkers. not everybody wants a family, either. or even a partner. I think its sad when women or men, but especially women I know, will do anything just to have a partner in life. we are born alone, we die alone, and most of our darkest nights of the soul are struggled with in solitude...its just natural. I can't imagine him being all chummy with his fans or revealing too much. I think most writers reveal what they want to in their writing. not to mention, he doesn't need stalkers, and a good way to get one is to reveal too much. its a crazy world.
Should be on the 30th of this month. This year or next. Or at least that would be a good marketing strategy. I don't think they've announced it yet though. Can't wait to get it once it's released though.
Ah, quit yer bitching...He's a brilliant Musician, phenomenal Producer and he can out-Mix anyone in the biz!!! Not to many in the same category...I will always look forward to hearing Steven Wilson's Music and quite enjoy his opinions.
En tous cas , qu'est qu'il boit ... sans doute de l'eau pure ou de l'eau bénite ... Dieu seul le sait ! L'important est de s'exprimer en pensées interviewées ...
Yeah ok i guess thats better but still Its not healthy the Calcium in there doesnt help your bones it acually harms them (sry im not a native english speaker) :)
WickerManLP no worries at all. have you watched "what the health" yet? It's awesome that he feels the way he does about animals but eating dairy and eggs results in so much unnecessary animal death as well. maybe he just doesn't really know any better or something. I didn't for a long time.
He is vegetarian for quite long time. But I'm quite disappointed that he is not already vegan after 15 or 20 years of vegetarianism and if he shared legendary speech of Philip Wollen who is sponsor of Earthlings trilogy. facebook.com/StevenWilsonHQ/posts/964772133543049
Marek Volf oh I was disappointed too... I had a bit of an emotional rollercoaster, first wow he's a vegetarian and then oh no he talks about cheese after saying we don't have the right to eat (meaning: kill) other animals for our taste buds. Oh well, I'm so used to all the people I admire failing me in that sense 💔 (but your comment made me feel better).
I love Steven Wilson, I really do, but to say that he doesn't agree with 'repeating a winning formula' its hypocritical of him. Just listen to The Same Asylum As Before for example. Is the same music he has been done trough all these years. Aside from that, very good initiative these Q&A Sessions!
Isn't that part of the point of the song though? It's called The Same Asylum as Before, so I assumed the similarities to past PT songs (in particular Stranger By the Minute and Prodigal) were deliberate in this case as they suited the meaning behind the song.
To The Bone session and one question about album itself. Of course, TV shows are far more important than music. Who the fuck chose this questions? Steven was polite as always, but interviewer didn't realy do his homework.
He can write some good songs but oh man is he an annoying, egotistical phony.. Even Guthrie Govan, though he's a polite enough gent to not blatantly say so, thinks Wilson's a right musical snob and rather up himself.
Jeremy I Anti-Trump? It's only reasonable one would be at this point, knowing and discovering that he's Hillary without a war fetish. And following one of the healthiest diets besides a vegan diet is truly a sign of a horrible person. Quality music is debatable at this point, given that he's going the full on pop route (progressive pop, pop rock). HCE is arguably the best of his solo albums and it would perhaps be a hard album to follow up, but this isn't the direction most fans expected.
It's very sad he's a libtard... Pro-refugees (actually Muslim economic migrants who could care less about his art), anti-Trump sentiments, vegetarianism, childfree. It's not easy to relate to such a person for a conservative person.
What's wrong with being vegetarian? I guess a lot of you meat eaters think it's just a "trendy" thing, but the sole fact that eating meat is contribuiting to air pollution is enough of a reason for me to not eat meat. Most of meat eaters are pathetic and very hypocrite, as they say they "love animals", but they don't care about cattle being killed, and they even buy the most expensive pet just to show off. IMO that's pure anthropocentrism, speciesism and selfishness. Gl with your selfish and disgusting diet anyway.
It's kind of funny how, last q&a, he was like "I don't watch television or play videogames, I think those things are a waste of time"
And now he's like: "The new Twin Peaks is so good! and The Last Day of June - Wow! Who knew videogames can actually tell a story!"
It's like he's slowly discovering the world around him. Next thing you know he's gonna start wearing shoes
Last Day of June is a game based on his song "Drive Home" its not his game per say but I would say he was involved in some aspects.
According to this Q&A, his only involvement was giving them the go-ahead to make it. Of course he's still gonna be biased towards a game he's gonna make money off of, but it's nice to see him opening up to the idea of video games as a form of art
To be fair, He WATCHED someone play those games lol
Rupti Doolooroodoo that doesn't mean that he does not watch movies and series.
"next thing you know he's gonna start wearing shoes" WELL now let's not get too crazy here, that's a bit of a big jump there
There's nothing better than sitting with a big cup of tea and listening to Steven talk about anything.
I'm a new fan of Steven Wilson. Also love that he is accessible on RUclips with interviews. I found The To The Bone documentary very interesting. After watching the documentary, I immediately bought the album on vinyl and CD.
I thought he was tired of facebook
Epic comment..
Filip Šponiar 😏😏😏 lol
i thought that includes himself
I thought he was tired of his failing health?
Filip Sponiar
Haha!
I think he's just fashionably bored!;)
Whatever this man decides to release is a gift to humanity.
Amazing interview! Steven is the one of the few musicians that make his music from the heart without looknig for public's approval, but his.
Steven Wilson the master! ❤️ These kind of people are born once in a millennium. Period.
Thanks for doing these. Can you believe SW is turning 50 this year? He looks 35 still.
No Doubt! I'm younger than him yet look like his father.
We love you Steven from the early 90's...keep on be amazing human and musician. Love from Athens-Greece.
Steven Wilson Feat Trent Reznor. MAKE THIS HAPPEN!!!!!!!!!!!
And he is now vegan (according to what I have read) so has gone even further. Big respect 💚
steven Wilson's music is like a drug to me and his songs are medicines.
great interview great musician and seems a down to earth gent who speaks a lot of sense.so good to watch an interview where every sentence doesn't have a "you know" or "like" just answers question's normally.
Wow, Steven mentioning one of my favourite TV shows ever - "the Leftovers" has just made my day
"You know."
A fabulous insight thanks Steven.
Somehow I think Steven might actually enjoy a game like "Heavy Rain". Picturing him checking out a VR game is an interesting thought as well. :D Great Q&A once again, I hope there will be more at some point!
Ayyy, I recently started following you after seeing you on Dominik's channel :) Whaddup lol
The way he started the video with a glass in his hand, reminded me of a teleshopping commercial.
Hello Steven, I am a fan and so is my wife and my father and we went to your concert in São Paulo. We really think you should reconsider having a family, maybe that experience will bring you even more inspiration to your music. I have been a father recently and it brings you a really unique wisdom.
Cigarettes after sex discovered that band last week, love them too
Me too, once Steven has mentioned it (5:42), I loved their first album in this year.
Haha every time he drinks i laugh because I have the exact same glasses and am using the same one as him now hahaha.
Steven Wilson doesn't like drugs and he hates playlists. So I smoke weed and listen to playlists with his music in them. Haha love you Steve.
I like that he's a fan of Jóhann Jóhannson. His film scores on many of Denis Villeneuve's films have been exemplary so far, and so original too - which is why Denis continues to recruit him for his films. I love your music, steven Wilson. Please, come to INDIA again, last time i couldn't arrange money for your show in shillong. :-(
grv360 how much was the ticket for last year?
very interesting Q&A, great to listen to as always
religion teacher: the next task is to draw what you think god looks like
me: *draws Steven Wilson*
Religion teacher...
Sos hermoso Steven, AMO TU FORMA DE HABLAR ♥.♥
Iba a escribir lo mismo, olvidé que ya lo había dicho xD es que me deja estúpida (?
Listening ! TY
I was an original pessimist after hearing the 1st 3 poppy videos upon release, and was wondering whether I made a mistake of shelving 57 euro on a concert ticket for March 2018. how could he be approaching 50?
Gracefully.
Chuixupu oh yeah
It's easy. Don't eat meat.
Good genetics 😉
Did I hear a hint for 5 1/2 in there? :)
çeçíle Well it would technically be 6 😄
So human!
I love his recent remix of jethro tull's stormwatch
What was the name of the game based around Drive Home that they talked about? I couldn't quite tell what he said
E43 last day of June. use captions
Porcupine Tree deserve a documentary, or a road movie as well. This band left a legacy for a thousands of prog rock bands which was influenced due the band.
Dairy is an intolerably cruel industry. Organic makes no difference, it just makes you feel better. Take the next step Mr. Wilson, you can do it :-).
Is it me or the first 3 seconds of this video were just so british xD
Cheers to that
Johann Johannson, Max Richter, Idols, Roger Waters....Steven, you and I really need to have several pints over records.
I'm surprised Steven isn't excited by the rock scene at the moment, there is some great stuff around that he probably hasn't listened to. look forward to the new album.
Thank you to whoever asked the question at 35:10
I am proud of permanating too
Can somebody please tell me why there are missing Porcupine Tree albums on Spotify? And do you know if they're going to put them back again soon?
Felipe Díaz Bo I'm not entirely sure but I believe it was due to a different record company having released them, or something like that. I think SW addressed it in his last live Q&A or a somewhat recent interview.
When he gets asked what the defining trait of his sound is, I expected him to say 'trains'.
See you in Bergen Uncle Wilson..
Never heard of steven wilson before.and then after heard hes making project progresive metal band with opeth/ex bloodbath mikael akerfeldt i think i start listen to their storm corrosion band song😁🤘☕
That game looks really good
please make a non blue ray studio documentary!
At least I understood about the new album's idea. He is doing things on his way at always
Steven come back soon . :(
My question at 27:22, aaagh! 💗 Ps. I'm agreeing to all those comments who wonder how's he going to be 50 this year... Just... No.
// PLEASE COME TO KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI //
Awesome!
What incident does he mention at 32:30? Can't make it out.
Bataclan Incident
MrCookie31c Cheers, thank you!

He said when new band, I mean band. Is there a new line up for the tour?
So... All these years I've been making magical songs but now I want to explore and I'm aware I'll lose fans but hopefully I'll get new ones? I have to be honest AUCH
so this guy is 50 YEARS OLD in this interview?
It must be joke. oh my god
Didn't think he would be that talkative and nice... Never seen him beeing interviewed before. By his stageprensence and how he moves and looks on stage(PT and solo shows) I always thought he's authistic in some way. Turns out he's a competly normal human being.
Who were the classical composers that he mentioned?
No one asked who will be in the touring band next year?
Steve Smith The other porcupine tree members!
Would you rather Steve Wilson do a horror, sci-fi, drama, epic, or thriller soundtrack?
I do think it's rather smart of him to keep his private life private. we really don't have the right to know more than any human wants us to know about them, and he is one of those independent thinkers. not everybody wants a family, either. or even a partner. 1:55 understood.
class
When is Last day of June releasing btw ?
Should be on the 30th of this month. This year or next.
Or at least that would be a good marketing strategy.
I don't think they've announced it yet though.
Can't wait to get it once it's released though.
Tom that too the best part is, the game will be out on Steam. And Steam is meant to host brilliant games like Dota and CS:GO. can't just wait 😎
#GoVeganSteven
dror yahalom hahahahahahahaha. thought the same.
Oh thank you
Sheer genius... No doubt...
What, people hated In Absentia when it was released? Does not compute.
That album was my introduction into SW, I love it.
ZuGineeris Aah the In Absentia days
Steven....Art is being made. Stick to yer guns
11:00 he answered my question here and I couldn't be happier
Ah, quit yer bitching...He's a brilliant Musician, phenomenal Producer and he can out-Mix anyone in the biz!!! Not to many in the same category...I will always look forward to hearing Steven Wilson's Music and quite enjoy his opinions.
SENPAI
He's going to be 50 in November, looks much younger the lucky bloke.
Is it just me, or does he sound like Nigel tuffnel?
En tous cas , qu'est qu'il boit ... sans doute de l'eau pure ou de l'eau bénite ... Dieu seul le sait ! L'important est de s'exprimer en pensées interviewées ...
God I love Kate bush #Lily
I'm just going to ask what are Alternative facts? Lol
Oh dear....I thought you was a weirdo like me but it appears you were into Culture Club all along.
I ♥ you
sonaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Well the Dairy Industrie is atleast just as bad as the Meat Industrie. But nice to know he is a Vegetarian :)
WickerManLP he clearly says in the video that he only buys free range and organic eggs and milk
Fiction Inquisition yeah dairy and eggs are shit no matter what. Go V.
I didn't for a long time.
im defenetly going to watch that sometime soon thank you ^^
The more accessible it is, the more equal the gender balance will be?? ... Yup.. we women just need that easy to access kind of music! ... sod off thx
bump. psych.
Aren't you tired yet of this stuff?
Tutor's Library no
He is an ovolacto vegetarian
Ovo what?
Deedsy
Alan Mora Scott Pilgrim! ^^
I don't think his health is failing. He looks pretty well for 50.
I love that Steven loves Kate Bush and that he is a vegetarian.
Brigitte Isabella imaging if he starts doing crossfit too.
Oh well, I'm so used to all the people I admire failing me in that sense 💔 (but your comment made me feel better).
I think its "just" good handcrafted Music not the next UN Charta.
Time to check yourself up...
Wow... he mentioned Cigarettes After Sex.
Rek'rd.

It's just one song. Wait until you see how it fits on the whole record.
You can't make every single song sound different and unique in every way!
To The Bone session and one question about album itself. Of course, TV shows are far more important than music. Who the fuck chose this questions?
Steven was polite as always, but interviewer didn't realy do his homework.
It's a Q&A from fans, the interviewer is his ''web-guy''. Real journalists will do proper interviews about the album, don't worry.
God this album is turning me off already just the way Steven talks....he's kinda hokey and snobby.
Time to go vegan Steven!
He can write some good songs but oh man is he an annoying, egotistical phony.. Even Guthrie Govan, though he's a polite enough gent to not blatantly say so, thinks Wilson's a right musical snob and rather up himself.
Austin Dyer How do you know this?Do you know him personally?
Austin Dyer Hear, hear!
Austin Dyer there is a difference between being an uptight snob, and not caring about the approval of the masses.
don't like this pop phase he's in. I respect his xploring of his talent, but nothing he's done here compares remotely to any of his work with pt.
So... an anti-trump vegetarian. Meh. At least he can make quality music.
