Congratulations to Romania and the interviewer for making the best interview to Steven Wilson that I've ever seen. I sat here with my coffee and was absolutely delighted from beginning to end.
I always love Steven's interview, but this is one interview where I loved the interviewer just as much.
The interviewer is excellent, I am only half way through the interview but this might the best SW interview I've ever heard. Great job.
Yes… yes he is, I hate when people are interviewed by people who aren't familiar with them; this guy clearly knows his Steven Wilson
That was one of the best if not the best interview I've seen to Steven Wilson. Congratulations to the interviewer, great questions and well driven.
The host is an exceptional man! You can look up his interview with Nigel Kennedy for example (can't remember others that were in english).
totally agree .. and Steven is just amazing i believe ..
100% agree. Dynamite interview. Maybe I am projecting, but I got the feeling that he, too was heartbroken to hear Steven say that PT is gone forever.
The more I hear this guy speak and the more I listen to his music, the more I fall in love with him! What a brilliant human being. Props to the interviewer too, really nice and profound questions.
You are born on the exact right time Steven, what on Earth should we have done without you? I only listen to very few bands, and you are one of them. The day I discovered Porcupine Tree I was absolutely mindblown, I don't know if I will experience something like that again in my lifetime. You are really a unique musician
I think this too. I wish I could relive the high moments where I discovered music like his. It was so beautiful and sublime in a way.
Agreed. I got into Porcupine tree only this year (2022) and I often wonder if I would prefer if I knew them back in the era of Absentia-Blank planet so I could enjoy the band in their younger prime years (and in my 20s) but I prefer not to, because otherwise I would have no "new" music to enjoy and be surprised with now. After 2000 there is very little artistic music, so one can only discover "old" bands and start listening to them as if they are just releasing that music today. Is an illusion that helps us survive in an era with no real and serious artists (in any of the arts) but specially in popular music.
This is the best thing i've seen come out of Romanian tv in SO many years. Proud.
Congrats!
This interview was so insightful and moving for me. I love listening to Steven Wilson speak. He's eloquent, direct, forthright and unapologetic about his strong views. He speaks with such an air of confidence, in general, and especially about his craft. This is possibly the best interview with him I've seen. Cătălin Ştefănescu did a fantastic job. He was really engaged in what Steven was saying and directed the questioning appropriately. It was a great exchange, the two of them conversing. It felt very harmonious and even whimsical in parts. It was an extraordinary interview and made me quite emotional! It made me really revisit, in my mind, how it was I came to discover Porcupine Tree all those years ago, and what it evoked in me. Steven Wilson is pure genius and I hold him in such high regard. I'm very glad that the musical journey he's been exploring stills resonates with me and that I have such a pure enjoyment for his music, that my appreciation for him as an artist is not just riddled with nostalgia and nothing more. I am truly so grateful to Steven and also Mr. Ştefănescu. I'm sure I'll revisit this wonderful conversation between these two again. Now, I'm even more thrilled and excited to see Steven perform twice at the end of this month!
Brilliant interview, with intelligent questions and intelligent answers.
Great interview! Amazing amazing interviewer too. Great questions and he knew exactly WHEN to talk and when to let SW talk. Excellent job!
I'm glad there is still that kind of human being at that time of history of the human kind. SW live shows are magical moments
The interviewer makes this interview the best Steven Wilson interview ever!
Interesting interview, he always gives such concise answers. I liked the set of the program too, unique way of interviewing people.
I just want to concur with most of the people here and just say that was one of Steven's best interviews. Thank you so much for making him comfortable and asking really great questions.
How great this is for SW, so much respect and great questions in this interview. Finally I must say.. So Big thanks for that!
Wonderful! Thanks for an OUTSTANDING interview!
Une grande interview ! Steven Wilson (enfin) révélé sur des questions et des réponses intelligentes et pertinentes. Merci pour ces 50 minutes de bonheur :)
Outstanding interview! Thank you for sharing it
Fantastic interview, props for asking great questions!
This was a spectacular interview! Interviewers, take notes!
Honesty. Through and through; Heart on the sleeve. I enjoyed this very much, thank you for bringing this to all of us. Take care and rock on
I love listening to what he has to say and I have never disliked anything he has done. But every time I’ve met him I’ve spoke so much shit because I never know what to say..hope he is working on new stuff I’m sure he is he loves it and as for his voice I don’t think he realises how brilliant his vocals are now it’s not power it’s hypnotic and fits so well .
This interview was incredible, amazing job!
Phenomenal interview on film. SW is a phenomenal character that thinks very philosophically and tells the truth and this interview brings that out perfectly. The interviewer has done the homework, which very few interviewers of musicians actually do.
Great interview! Some really good questions - providing insights into Steven Wilson's mind and music.
Watching in 2022, Steven's confidence at 45:00 is pretty hilarious
Fantastic interview and one conducted by someone who clearly cares about his craft! Loved this!
Am avut șansa imensă ca sâmbătă 29 iulie 2023 să-l vedem live la ArtMania Sibiu , concert colosal al trupei Porcupine Tree .... restul au părut lăutari pe lângă show-ul lor ! Fabulos !
Such an amazing interview, and thanks a lot for the last question!
A entrevista mais interessante que já vi do Steven,
O entrevistador é muito bom!
parabéns!
"Nothing, I've always been like this" what a substantial answer.
This was a very good interview, thank you for sharing !
I like listening to Stephen speak as much as I like listening to his music.
I truly enjoyed this. Absorbed the words like it was my language Steven is talking in.
damn, that was so epic.honest and straight to the point..love and respect
I love to listen to Steven. Very wise and intelligent
There are some Jeff Buckley moments on this album with guitar progression, for sure. Loved he mentioned Jeff here in interview. Amazing interview, loved it!
As much as I'd love another Porcupine Tree record I respect the honesty of his answer. I'd still love to hear him collaborate with those guys again though is some capacity because they're all great musicians whose particular imprint helped make those albums so good. Gavin and Richard especially have such unique musical voices that worked incredibly well with Steven's writing. I miss those amazing soundscapes.
Naruhodo,
A reasonable explanation of "The Sound of Muzak".
Once again, thank you for the insights, Sir.
Such words of wisdom! Kudos.
Proper discussion on "Real" Music.
Amazing interview, but the final answer about Porcupine Tree broke my heart again haha 😢
Brilliant Interview, well done. Guess we'll never find out where the name Porcupine Tree came from though!
Excellent interview and a very prepared interviewer (although, sometimes his enthusiasm of interviewing Steven Wilson is funny)
Fantastic interview!
' I don't know about your hairdresser' lol
What a good interviewer
Very interesting about "paralysis" in James Joyces Dubliners...read them bc of that mention...Ty SW!
i didn't know Colin Edwin interviewed SW a while ago.
Wow , that's one hell of an interview ! The only ones comparable to this , are probably the Face Culture ones . This is the way interviews should be done !
I love you
I'm glad there is an audience for real music. In the era of troll rap and fake instruments, it's good to know. Ghost of the universe is coming I promise. With music from the heart and no where else.
What is the song playing in the end credits?
"One of the British artist you've never heard of..." Jos pălăria!
can someone compile the 10 best SW interviews of all time into one video?
I'm feeling that the definition of Steve's success is the reason that he isn't the big success he wants to be.
Who is the interviewer?
His name is Cătălin Ștefănescu and he is one of the best TV hosts on the Romanian National Television (public station, not private). His cultural show, "Garantat 100%" ("One hundred percent guaranteed") is in deed a gem, because it's not about a certain theme, it's about people from a lot of fields. He had on his very longevive show a lot of interesting people, artists, athletes, writers, psychiatrists, actors and many more, most of them Romanian, but also internationally famous people, including Armand Assante, Joe Cocker, Sarah Brightman, Nigel Kennedy, Steve Vai, Duke D'Argyle etc.
@@lucullus_FR Nu gasesc interviul cu steve vai nicaieri..........e pe undeva?Stii ceva?
@@TheMaster4999, nu am găsit nici eu. Dar am văzut emisiunea. A fost în 2011.
And for those still asking about Porcupine Tree, I think it was pretty clear....
I partially take back what I said. The answer he gave to the last question was a revelation to me...particularly his opinion on PT's last album. I agree with him. It was a backward step. I liked it for a few weeks but then eventually gave it away. It sets off and ends up nowhere which is ironic given its title. Fair play to him moving on....I prefer Bass Communion to all his other stuff anyway.
Anybody know what music that was playing at the beginning when it was showing the 2 chairs across from each other? Or is that just music they play in all the videos?
Twilight Coda, from his Insurgentes album.
I loved this interview, but what is up with that camera work?
I was born in 67, the year of Sgt. Pepper's and Are you Experienced.
Genial
15:57 "I was born in 67... the year of Sargent Peppers"
44:35
the spinning camera must have distraced steven a lot .....^^
The same thing about music happened with Classical music.....
I counted 7 YUPs
Love Wilson's philosophy but like any other great man, he can be wrong. Floyd and The Beatles are defo NOT POP. They are popular tho, which is not the same. Early Beatles yes, pop group but no pop band writes an album like Abbey Road or Revolver, total different Universe and way beyond the talent of the greatest of pop "artists". Let's give rock artists their due respect please
Revolver is a pop album sprinkled with psychedelia
O emisiune de înaltă calitate...o oază în deşertul acesta de nulități...
IDK if anyone notices it but the interview guy is actually using therapy techniques in this interview. He even uses Gestalt at one point with the roleplaying. All of his questions are open ended, even challenging for Steven at times. I think that's what makes it genuine and authentic. Blown away by this.
He creates a dramatic arc, it seems. Very smart.
Damien Ark the thing is, he goes with his qiustions exactlly to the right point.
What an absolutely OUTSTANDING interview! Loved EVERYTHING about it. Thank you 💜
I remember reading an interview with Catalin (the interviewer) a few years ago and they asked him to name a person he admires and he said 'Steven Wilson', I'm really glad he got to interview him.
yes, you could definitely hear the respect and admiration for steven in it. this was a very interesting and fantastically done interview.
I'm beyond proud that the best interview I could find with my favorite artist ever was made in my home country! absolutely lovely! great questions, great answers. I hope more and more people, especially artists, get to see this and experience his work. This man is pure gold. Bravo TVR, bravo Catalin!
Finally a good interview where we can hear Steven not answering the same questions over and over. By the way, if this man is 51, ¿who's getting old in his name?
Loved the interview with Steven Wilson and found Cătălin's questions excellent.
Finally!! Someone managed to make a proper interview to Steven. Thank for this
Well, one of the most engaging interviews with Steven Wilson recently. It's always nice to hear two intelligent men in conversation. Hat's off to Romanian presenter for clear articulation despite interview being conducted in not his first language. And also obviously quite few interesting points made by Steven. Brilliant, well done.
Alot of interviewers out there should learn a lesson or two from this interviewer. This is how a proper interview should be done. Hats off to the interviewer and hats off to you dear sir Steven Wilson...
The explanation of the end of Porcupine Tree is very good. This was a very enjoyable interview, with excellent insight in regards to where music is. Wonderful Steven. Thank you.
That was the best Interview of Steven Wilson I have ever listened to....the interviewer was amazing and had amazing genuine questions...and I loved his approach to a musician like Steve....and I loved how openly Steve spoke about everything..
I just loved it....❤️
Probably the best interview I've seen to any musician ever, daring to question the invitee, kudos to the host
I think that's one of the best SW interview ever, thank you!
Am I the only one hearing that very high awful noise?
No, you're not alone)
Is it the terrible sound of muzak? :D
No.
I don't hear any background noise.
the only one not hearing it was the sound engineer
Surely must be the best interview I've seen with Steven Wilson, thanks to the great host Cătălin Ștefănescu! Thank you Mr. Ștefănescu for such great questions. I have been a fan of Wilson's since 2010 and I haven't seen anything come close to this depth of questions and answers in any of his interviews. Two wonderful human beings in a room can inspire an entire population.
If I was a famous musician, I'd have strong cravings to be interviewed by this guy. It must be a blast to answer such sophisticated questions that go beyond the superficial checklists of absent minds. Steven indeed is the right person to have those conversations with. This interview could have lasted another 5 hours and I'd still wished for more.
Great interviewer. Well thought questions

@@TVRcanaluloficial un interviu mult peste nivelul celorlalte pe care le-am vazut cu Steven Wilson. Felicitari !
Superb interview! Loved every second. Fascinating to get into the mind of SW. One of the best music interview by miles. Kudos to the interviewer for making this a unique un-cliched discussion
*THIS* is how to conduct a great interview!
Eloquent questions and the interviewer was not afraid to challenge Steven at all which actually got the best out of him. I expected the last question to be something else though. That's been answered enough and it's time to move on people. His solo records are equally amazing, if not even better
Best Steven Wilson interview I've seen. Also, I totally agree with him regarding Porcupine Tree. If you listen to the PT discography from start to finish, you can see that they're scraping the bottom of the idea barrel with The Incident. I think The Incident was great, but it just pales in comparison to masterpieces like Stupid Dream, Lightbulb Sun, In Absentia and FOABP. Even the centerpiece, Time Flies, is a really good song, but it simply isn't in the same category as Anesthetize, Arriving Somewhere, Even Less or Russia on Ice. Steven hasn't disappointed me yet, so after all these years I trust his artistic decisions.
I miss Jeff Buckley :(
Everyone does.
Nice interview, good questions and answers that have not been already heard a thousand times, well done. But please Mr. Wilson, PT was surely not only your masked solo thing. It was good to give control to others musicians, in my opinion PT have been that brilliant because the others made good songs great by bringing in their incredible skills. I do like the solo stuff and the current band members, but while see you playing the PT tunes these days on stage, Gavin, Colin, Richard and John are hardly missing... Well, we should look forward, but please honour what the others did to the songs and don‘t always talk about your backcatalog only....
Was there something more to read, just after it says "backcatalog only..."? I imagine that RUclips isn't allowing me to fully read your post?
Cr8Tron No, nothing more to read... :-)
The talk about how people imagine Steven Wilson being a melancholy person reminds me of Roger Waters. He also had that reputation, reflected in things like the satirical (and hysterical!) Secret Diaries of Roger Waters that appeared on Usenet in the mid '90s. But if you listen to the commentary track on the The Wall movie DVD, you realize he's actually hilarious. It's worth listening to just for his impression of Bob Geldof's accent.
Also, Steven's enthusiasm for Tangerine Dream's Zeit inspired me to check out that album, and I have to say, I love it too. I was very pleasantly surprised when I recognized some of it being used as background music in episode 2 of the TV show "The Terror".
This interview was absolutely phenomenal. Thank you Catalin for asking such awesome questions! And bless Steven for his frankness.
This is very good, freaking kudos to the interviewer for being up to the task
Great interview! Stephen is sooo intelligent and honest! Love Tangerine Dream!! Miss Porcupine Tree too...amazing band!!
