This is alternate timeline Gul'dan. The one from our timeline had a bit of a different backstory, but not entirely too far off. The original one was the apprentice of the chieftain of the Shadowmoon Clan, Ner'zhul, who was tricked by the Legion (Kil'Jaedan) into committing genocide on the Draenei. When Ner'zhul discovered the truth, Gul'dan willingly replaced him, and surpassed him as a willful servant of the Legion. Awesome video. Super happy to have you back!
From what I remember from "Rise of the Horde", Gul'dan destroyed his village and then ran to Ner'zhul's clan claiming that it was the Draenei who destroyed his clan. Ner'zhul then took him on as an apprentice, which made it easier for Gul'dan to work in the shadows and corrupt the orcs via Ner'zhul. Plausible deniability, right? As all of this happened before Garrosh appeared on alternate Draenor, it's likely to be exactly the same.
@@l.s.squirrel4226 You are correct, end of WoD through Legion is when they were doing all the retcons, changes, story tweaks etc...(Also the Warcraft Chronicles) This origin story for Gul'Dan is the same for both timelines.
I love these shorts as well. It's how I prefer to get the lore. In-game I usually just look at the quest objectives and skip the text of why I need to go kill 20 bears and return with their arses.
7:08 I don't believe there's any mention of Gul'dan being born with a physical handicap prior to his origin story, but it's very in keeping with his character. The story of Gul'dan's influence on the Horde is not unlike the story of Palestine's influence over the Republic - both villains canonically murder their entire families before beginning a campaign of duplicity in pursuit of personal power. For Gul'dan to conceal his weakness with his abilities just adds another layer to his pre-existing knack for deception.
It's mentioned in the lore for him in the books that he had a small form and extreme hunch, but it never outright called him a cripple like they do here.
