    Dear Frugal Chef,
I was excited to see this recipe as my husband is from Germany and we have a small German bakery where we live however they charge an arm and a leg for this. I followed your recipe and had great success. My husband said they remind him of his Mom’s and she is a wonderful mother in law so the compliment was great. Thank you now onto your brownie recipe

Beautiful German cookies. The method you described of lining a tin with a greased brown paper bag is what I used to use years ago when I couldn't buy parchement paper for my xmas cakes & it always worked well. Thank you for another lovely recipe. Your daughter & grand daughter are gorgeous! Cheers Mary Ann.

What other kind of jam/preserve/marmalade can be used besides apricot. I can't stomach apricots. Thanks so much. 🎄

Jan Silversides Hi Jan! You would be surprised at the fact that you can't even taste the jam in this recipe. However, I guess you can make these with raspberry or strawberry jam. Thanks!

Hey! I am German and these cookies aren´t really considered to be christmasy (but they sure are delicious) which is actually a good thing because it means you can eat and buy them all year. And yes, you kinda butchered the name a little but it´s really cute :)

If you can't find either parchment paper, AND you can't find a brown paper grocery bag, you probably should move to an area where there is an established civilization.
