I liked the Karen character until she started smoking weed with her husband’s best friend son who is attending the Naval Academy and then started flirting with him….what could go wrong. Also with the first season I don’t see an astronaut breaking his or her arm to help a fellow astronaut return home because he was having a mental break down. Breaking her arm would have ruined her career with NASA. Then Ed decided to let his friend go back to the moon 🌚…😳

Spoiler alert - I am very disappointed in the slanted season finale for Season 3. Two very strong women with great stories to play out which would be very uplifting for women to watch are killed off (Karen Baldwin and Molly Cobb). This seems so typical of the movie / film industry that you would kill off female characters who can have a more nuanced and intriguing story line, and none of the men. Not even either of the incredibly creepy and tiresome Stevens brothers. To my mind either would have been a slam dunk to axe because there is no real dimension to either character. They are both self-absorbed and one dimensional and no longer add to the narrative. This decision once again marginalizes the role of women in an otherwise more balanced program. Too bad you did it.😟😐😦

I actually like how Molly's character arc ends. She was a woman of action and I can't see her just fading away. It was obvious she was glad to be back at JSC, if only for this one day. When the bomb went off, I can't see Molly being any less of a hero than she was on the Moon with the solar flare, especially since her blindness and years of navigating those halls by memory suddenly became a super-power. I especially love how our last sight of her is her going back to save another person. The front page showing the new Molly Cobb Space Flight Center was the perfect way to show she died a hero. As a NASA junkie since I watched Armstrong walk on the Moon, and having been to JSC, renaming it after her is massive!
I'm closer to agreeing with you on Karen. Her ~30 year arc of Astronaut Wife, to business owner, to CEO of Helios was compelling. Then there's that scene with Molly at her easel. It's pretty much establishing Karen and Molly similar elemental forces of nature. They both died as heroes in the same terrorist attack, both trying to save others. I can still see where her arc could have gone in Season 4; that's why her death is the gut-punch it is.
Danny and Jimmy Stevens have been plot devices, with Jimmy getting no real character development at all. Season 4 will center around the next generation. Danny's a lost cause, as it is completely established he's always been an entitled prick. I really hope we find out that he goes as crazy as his dad did, and Ed isn't there to save him.
I do want Jimmy to get at least a small redemption arc in S4. Not much, but I want to see him knowing that while he was played like a fool, he needs to atone to Karen, and pull his head out of his ass. Yes, he's barely fleshed out, but he's a kid from a broken home that was orphaned when his parents became national heroes. Not much. I'm thinking about a death announcement he only gets because of who his parents were, and his key testimony convicting all of the terrorists, when he dies an otherwise mundane death.
