- Londa junction is a interesting place.
From Miraj Junction (Central Railway) we move to Belagavi (South West Railway) and from Londa junction (South West Railway) connects to Madgao junction ( Konkan Railway)
Here the Goa trains run in opposite direction so people travelling on this route get stunned when train reverses plus frustrating since it stops for about 1 hour so here are few answers.
Railway Junction and station have a major difference. Even though both are stations.
Junction usually have many more platforms but importantly a track or tracks which travels in a seperate direction.
A train from Pune travels forward from Belagavi to Londa junction then reverses to Madgaon then again forwards on Konkan Railway track towards Kerala.
Why it stops for 1 hour? Engines are shunted and put at the other end. The air pressure in the braking system is released and has to be charged again which takes the maximum time. Bogies / coaches need to be inspected for missing or broken parts of undercarriage. The bogie brakes need to cool down since Londa to Margao is a downhill ghat section.
At the same time 4 - 5 trains easily pass coming from Tirupati or Mysuru since the engine orientation is already correct and dont need to travel downhill from steep ghat while going to Belagavi .
The station roof height is low on all these stations because from Miraj to Margao / Vasco it was a meter gauge rail line, nallow smaller trains till 1990's but the stations were not demolished till recently (which is happening now) so the look of a tiny station.
Do note that train tickets on Poorna Express which starts from Ernakulam to Pune always has tickets available or artificially in waiting list because no one wants to travel on them due to odd hours like day journey and reaching at odd hours at night.
But all said and done train journey is much safer and more convenient then bus journey where you are thrown in a washing machine for 5 hours in the ghat section.
Regular train traveller's do not eat anything from the IRCTC catering employees who pass 100 times with food and drinks. Will make a video on it sometime.
Very beautiful video and this happens to be my old native Place where our parents built a Huge Bungalow known as the COELHO BUNGALOW which was in the forest area near the Outer Signal in which the train goes towards Hubli direction. It used to be a very hectic and busy station but over the years after the introduction of Diesel and Electric trains it has become very silent. During the years while I was there, this station used to have plenty of Goods train wagons and a Shunting Engine that it used to be worked by steam and those Drivers were Lakshman and elderly man and another Pandu somewhat younger. But Lakshman was a very nice man and he used to take us on the Engine while we were returning from school with our heavy bags of Books and used to drop us very near to the Outer signal and from there it was a short distance to walk to our house. In those days it used to be Metergauge and Steam driven trains that used to pass by our house. Now this station has been extend after Broadgauge conversion but it's very quiet and not so active.
