your painting has grown and changed in leaps and bounds! Judge is looking awesome. Combining techniques has really paid off! I DO miss some of those old sprue goo videos though. Or when you'd build stuff right out of sprues themselves. Ever thought of combining your old techniques with your new ones? Make some panels out of sprue..but then add 3d printed greeblies? Then paint in these new fun ways!

I've switched from slap chop to buying an airbrush and zenithal highlighting. Absolute game changer. I use primarily speed paints with acrylics for edge highlights, dry brushing, eyes. Great channel by the way Waffle King. The waffling is awesome - makes the audience feel like they are hanging out with you in the room while you do your thing. Keep up the fantastically entertaining content mate.

One of the things I have been doing to "upgrade" my slapchop approach is to prime in grey, dry brush white, which gives a brighter starting point for contrast paints. This partially fixed the "too dark and dingey" issue with slapchop. I have also been experimenting with adding a bit of color to my prime/base color. I am also starting to do a Post contrast highlight as well. It feels like we all will end up at the prime. base, wash (for shadows) and hightlight way of painting eventually.

Try basing in dark purple or something besides black for enhanced values, as human eyes perceive value more than shade.

great result as always. I've find that when I dry brush my mini's it's not entirely a dry brush but its more a damp slight wet brush so if gives a slightly softer edge to the mini then the pure white. but I build it up in stages. and that seems to work well. also a little side note I know a lot of people myself included always says Dredd never takes of his helmet but that's not completely true there are panels in the comic where his helmet is removed but his face is never fully show and is always in shadows or blocked someway

My first schlop attempt came out really dark and I had to add in highlights anyway. So since that first time, I've seen schlop as another tool in the toolbox box.

When you drybrush white, let it dry and then drybrush white again as that might make it a little lighter 😊

"...This hobby, is all about having fun..." You know that philosophy can really help me when I start a new project, look up and see if there is a tutorial on said project, try and follow along, and lament and cry when I feel the need to buy/color match every paint the instructor uses, that I clearly do not have, because I do not have a bottomless bank account.

    • @MiniatureHobbyist
      @MiniatureHobbyist  12 дней назад

This hobby is all about having fun and buying only what we can afford and then have fun using, the biggest thing I learnt from watching others was to not worry about copying them with the paint they have but to have fun watching them and painting with what you have and being happy 😊

I'm seriously considering painting my HeroQuest minis using slapchop thanks to your videos, but a word of caution I always hear is you need to be very neat because unlike acrylics, mistakes with speedpaints are harder to fix. What would you suggest?

So my recommendation for anything that you're going to use as a heavy dry brush is to go with the golden brand heavy body acrylic professional artist paint. It comes in like a three or four oz tube and it's about 20 US dollars but you get so much more paint than you do buy anything in one of those little hobby pots and you don't even need to squeeze out of the tube you can literally draw all the paint you need to dry brush your project from the inside of the cap I would use the titanium White as opposed to zinc White for dry brush base coats

Thank you for your videos mate! I have watched a few now and im super excited to 3d print some figures and get started!
I only have acrylic and tamiya enamel paints, which i have struggled with in the past (plua cheap brushes) but i am hoping to get some good primer, paints and brushes and give it a go!
Also, how do you apply the primer whilst avoiding filling in small details with too much prime paint?
    Thank you

I like it chalky but can get it smoother by being damp like you said or when drybrushing do it in circles 😊

I did post a comment previously, it did not show up. It could be due to a link., I posted to Papsikels Minatures. It was their Law Upholders Judge Dredd style 2012 minis.
All I was going to say was, that I have the stl for Eastman's Judge Dredd Bust in my pile of shame/opportunity. I have collected not only the Judge Dredd Complete Case Files, but also Judge Anderson, Strontium Dog, Rogue Trooper and Nemesis files.
And that it is my birthday on 11th June, I ordered the I Am The Law - Judge Dredd Miniatures Game. I have in my pile of digital shame/opportunity files for the Law Upholders by Pasikels Miniatures. I am hoping that in my collection that I have suitable terrain.
I am looking to print out alternate minis in the Dredd (2012) style. So I have lore accurate and movie accurate minis.
