“I think being a mom is the most important job in the world-and I’m not joking,” says mother Claire Kenny, whose big family stars in the first episode of Mormon Channel’s brand new series, “Happy Families.”
In the video, we get a glimpse of a day in the life of the Kenny family. With six kids under the age of 12, mornings are a busy time in their home, but Claire has a few tricks for keeping the chaos in check. First, while everyone eats breakfast, she reads aloud from a children’s magazine.
“It’s a great way to start our morning with a nice quiet moment,” she says. “Their mouths are full of food, so they can’t talk back.”
Then everybody tackles their daily chores, which include getting dressed, making beds and cleaning up. Reminders they call “tags” hang on the wall to let the kids know what is left to accomplish. Though her kids don’t always work as quickly as she would prefer, Claire finds humor and happiness in their efforts.
“It’s great. They crack me up. And they also infuriate me sometimes,” she says with a laugh.
When everyone has made it out the door and into the car, it is time for a Kenny family tradition. Claire leads her kids in singing the song “Make it a Good Day” on the way to school. The lyrics are simple and sweet, and they hold valuable lessons.
Make it a good day
Make this one glow
Fill it with learning
There’s much to know
Make it a good day
Look in your heart
Build on your heritage
And do your part
It’s easy to see that this is a happy family, but Claire says it is a challenge to keep up sometimes.
“That is a hard thing-feeling a little stretched thin in my abilities to take care of everyone at the same time … and hoping that … I’m doing a good enough job in all of those areas,” she says.
“I look around me and I see so many of my friends. Their kids are dressed so nicely, and I’m coming with my kids, like, ‘Whatever, they picked out their own clothes.’”
Regardless, she knows that no matter what the day brings, they can make it a good one if they work together.

Lol, I wonder the same thing about the 40min process of getting dressed in the mornings :)
This is my cousin and she is amazing!! Such a sweet family. I love how real she is about the stresses a mother feels so often in her roll. A great example to us all!
When my kids (6) would dress themselves, they came up with clothing and pattern combinations that were pretty outlandish. So that people would know it wasn't my fault, I created badges that said, "I dressed myself!" The kids were so proud to wear them, and I was off the hook.
xD
That little guy just chilling in his chair was awesome :-)
Is the baby a boy or a girl
yeah the baby's sneeze is so cute I love him
He was so cute
Lovely, obedient kids. Dad was obliging, patient & calm.Good job!
I wish that when I get older , I will make a good family's like this family's . ❤😊
I am a little older. I was able to shower and be ready to go out the door in 7 - 10 minutes before this year. I now need over an hour to dress. That's part of life. I am like the baby falling asleep in the little seat. They are so normal, maybe a little organized than I am. 😆
This is the only video in this Happy Families series that I can relate to. Thank you for sharing your experiences! It makes me feel so much better about my own chaotic family with so many small children.
I've just watched this video for the first time. I'm kind of blown away because we are a family from Australia and have 6 children too, namely, Sarah 21, Thomas 19, Ethan 16, Lydia 15, Emma 11 and Anna 10. I also have a nephew named Daniel 15 (currently living in Provo) and James 7 from a different family. Thanks for this cool video, it's always great to see other families trying to live the gospel as best they can 🙂
My mom has 8 kids and were a realy happy family! :) :) :)
The video series "Happy Families" is a great idea. Professional athletes have coaches, businessman have mentors and graduate students have advisors. What's available for families? Other families. I know several families who just have it figured out. I want to learn from them. Thank you, Mormon Channel. You can't be too detailed.
The best is Isaac just chillin with with his mommy

I grew up with 3 bros and 2 sisters. And it was awesome...except for when it wasn't but it was more than not 😄
My mom and dad were awesome. I remember doing fun things like wrestling with the kids or having pillow fights and pulling them on a makeshift sled. Thank God for the light he's given us to know how to have happy families. Yay! 😄

I think that is wonderful - what a responsibility it is to have 6 small children. Bless her heart..she is a great example of what a Mother should try to be. And she does it with a smile(probably not all the time) but that's okay.
Great example! Thank you! Greetings from Uruguay!
I too hope to have a family like that one day. Thanks for sharing this beautiful video.

A great family! Would you also read the Friend or scriptures too? Do your children pray and read scriptures in the morning at first? Just wondering what I can do in the morning. Thanks!
