I just watched that myself. Its been a great week over at win wiki. Travis, Rabbit, and Christopher Michaels all in 8 days. Undeniable best three story tellers on RUclips.

It's much less profitable than actually selling the cars. Ed Bolian talked about this in a couple of his videos being that he's had many transport headaches also. After you consider the cost of the truck, maintenance, fuel, taxes, and other expenses, you'll have to drive full time in order to recoup your costs. Then it comes down to whether it makes more sense to spend a week on the road driving to make $1000 vs. spending a week at home flipping cars and making $5000.
@@acrvids its more about reliability and controlling the chain of custody as far as im concerned. If you can put a few extra dollars in your pocket as well as protect your investment it would be worth it for the bottom dollar. Only transport your own cars through a seperate LLC and keep the $$ close.
@@FODteam In theory, yes. That makes perfect sense. But in reality car flippers would do it if the numbers added up. We hear these horrible stories about transporters all the time. But at the end of the month when they reconcile their gains and losses, they're still coming out ahead. And until they get to a point where they say, "I lost X amount of money due to a transporter screwup, and that's too much to lose." dealing with the headaches is much cheaper right now
I love listening to this man! Now he is telling god and all the angles his funny stories! ❤❤ I’m enjoying twice as much I did the first time listening to his videos! God bless Mr Rob Pitts Family ❤
When you said it's not looking at Matt's white legs I just about choked up on my whiskey, love those jokes of yours I'm rougher than 364 days in jail, but your content and your videos give me hope to help as many people as I can.
Still waiting on the transporter to admit the dings on my Datsun. If you can’t get them to admit fault and pay for the damage on your dually, it makes me feel not so bad about getting nothing out of the transporter for damaging the 280zx. Keep them coming Rob.
Ha, your funny. I had a transporter rip a bumper cover off a car, and flatten a tire on the same drop off right in front of me. They tried to blame it on me. It wasn’t even an expensive repair, but refused to pay. Their negative online reviews with pictures still remain 3 years later over $75 worth of damage
I haven't seen one in person for a long time, but I remember almost every obs single cab or swb tahoe you'd see at a car show in the early to mid 2000s had a caddie front clip.
I bought a Boss 302 out of state 3 years ago. Transport guys dinged it during delivery and thank god I was filming said delivery bc I had proof on camera. Still, that broken present analogy is spot on.
This reminds me of how there are some people that you DON'T want helping you pull a car with a tow rope because they don't completely understand the physics of braking. And so when you stop the car in front, they aren't aware that they have to step on the brake, and vice versa, they'll stand on the brake while you're trying to pull or push the car. So with the way that the truck flew off of the transporter I can imagine that they didn't even realize that they caused the damage in the first place.
I hate that for you. When you have anticipation building up and finally, and I mean finally it shows up like that… if you are a true car person, that dents your soul just a bit. At any rate I appreciate the story, have a great weekend.
I recognized that truck from your video tag and I couldn't put my finger on where I seen it then watching the video and you said Sema and then that was it. Sounds like you need your own transport company
I swear almost every RUclipsr that buys cars says the transport is the nightmare of the car business. Sounds like there is a big opportunity for business in this area of car service.
I'm sure it could be done if you charged 3-4 times the going rate with a "no excuses" guarantee. Part of the reason why service providers in general do sub-par work is because they're not charging enough. They undercut their prices to remain competitive. And they don't concern themselves with their reputation because they think/know that's the one and only time you're ever going to ship a vehicle.
No doubt there's a lot of cases where the money is the basic reason. When you buy tools you can get the chinesium, maybe craftsman, or on up to snap on. Lots of guys go the chinesium on transport, hunting the cheapest. That is a good percentage of the complaints you hear. I've seen picks of cars leaving the seller (seller was establishing a record of how/when it left expecting an issue) on a low quality trailer, maybe overloaded, being pulled by less than a half ton pickup truck. It was the cheapest guy they could get. Not discounting the bad actors in the transport business who just don't give a sh!t tho.
Right I don't know why at that point it's such a no-no just to drive it I would imagine a lot of sales are less than a thousand miles and with the amount of damage some of these rides are incurring during transport I'm sure you could baby a car on a trip@@GK-ju7ux
Lol it was easy to read the level of aggravation you were having that day just listening to you. I always tell guys if you're going into business for yourself you need to learn how to eat sh!t. Some days that will be all you seem to do. The good days will make up for it if you learn how to eat it and bite your tongue. Sucks it was your personal truck. Good chance I might have made the transporter feel "unwelcome" let's say. Thanks for sharing
Thats Rick Ross - The Boss ;) sucks about the timing of the truck, that thing is bad ass! Really does look clean with the second gen escalade front end on it
Well I know you reading this may go as good as me telling my old lady things that are important lol. But I'm a truck driver been OTR 3 yrs now but 20 yrs local total if you decide to buy a big rig transport id be your huckleberry. And literally less than 2 hrs of that from ya. Just planting seeds
Mr. Pitts I work in the transportation profession. If you would care to take some advice and you have the time let me start off with this question. When you were trying to set up an automotive transport what are you going too? Meaning are you looking at the semi truck companies mostly?
Transport be even more of a headache if transporter swap to EV crap stopping every couple of hours to charging for 2-4 hours That truck does look awesome
My mom's old man bought a collector truck (supposedly 33k for a 1970 f250) and it was delivered with some "imperfections due to transportation" chrome pieces knocked off, scratches, ect. Needless to say it hasnt moved since it's been parked since rolled off the trailer. My mom's old man got skunked on
So, so, so..."Neat LITTLE truck" Yeah, Rob, Idn't that a F3fitty that can handle a full ton of weight on that rear axle? -oh well; small compared to kenworth, I suppose
Sancrest trailers in republic mo they are good car haulers that go all over the US and haul oversized vehicles on a regular basis basically if reliable can't haul it they call sancrest
Don’t know how you kept your cool and not slam one of their heads into the fender of the truck… you showed restraint probably for the best tho, but no prob with bail money next time. just sayn’ Rabb. ya got us subs to pool together. we got ya back bub.
Sounds like a dishonest hauler. I haul new cars everyday and if a mistake happens I own up to it. Super long and low needs extra attention and usually some wood and rubber mats.
Rob you are owners of a truck shop, you have experience with transporting classic cars. Why wouldn’t you just start your own and control it it would make you a happier man.
All states vary on needing a dealers license to purchase and sell vehicles. Look into your state dealer licensing on what you require. The basics youll need are probably a bond, insurance, a physical location that can display x amount of cars, and of course equity to maintain everything. Not easy to start up but if you're willing to really never have a day off its not a bad gig to buy ,sell ,trade cars. A couple more tips would be to look up your state lemon laws, warranties, state inspections, and emissions if applicable. And always have paperwork copies to cover your own butt! I hope this helps you and whoever wants to start up selling cars.
I wouldn't have paid them I was owner operator and I would have been on time and done everything in my power to make sure nothing happened to vehicle and if it did cause things do happen sometimes I would have made it right I mean that's what insurance is for
I had a transporter rip the exhaust off of another car while unloading mine. Just after explaining to me how much I should tip him for his trouble, he asks me if he can borrow my sawzall so he can get the car with the broken exhaust back on. I tipped him and let him use my tools, but come on!
Ever considered just hiring a guy to do your transport for you? Not sure how much inventory you go through but it would be better for accountability and convenience.
The main issue with transport guys, they are completely clueless, dont give a rats, and trying to squeeze 10lbs of you know in a 5lbs bag. It gives a bad name to the guys who properly know. The guys that know are having to bail from the industry thanks to those who undercut and haul cheap. Its sad. To why i quit before i started. I was ahead of the game and still am as i heard rates are in the trash.... Time to get yourself a couple guys, trucks, and trailers to haul with.
Every time I hear one of these guys complaining about transport it really makes me want to make a transport side business that only works for them... How hard is it to make a reliable transport business that people don't bitch about, seems impossible from all the stories, lmao.

If I had a bigger trailer I could have gotten it 😂 sounded like a nightmare!
My birthday is July 27th too, also born in 1979.
I really liked that Dually too. I own a 88 c3500 ext cab 454. I love that truck. Always wanted to make it a Cadillac
