He is a cool guy. I met him in a dive bar in Mobile Alabama when he had long dreads. Saw the show and he gave me a bunch of incubus stickers. Very humble.
He's still that way. Met him at a farmers market not long ago. He and the band still drive themselves around in their own cars. Their cars aren't gawdy. Quality but not crazy.
Finally, an interviewer who asks meaningful questions and properly engages! She knows her stuff and was just so natural in the interview. You can tell Brandon actually enjoyed answering these questions and had more fun in this interview :)
Brandon is such a nice guy and an incredible singer and songwriter. I love Incubus since SCIENCE, my favorite record of them is Morning View, since i was in high school, they are a big reason why i'm a musician.
What a beatiful story about pocket knife and the continuous fall. My pocket knives in lucid dreams, once i actually realize that i'm dreaming, which doesn't always happen, are: staring at the moon, rushing open a scary door and facing what ever monster is behind it (and there never is a monster, even when there was breath or knocking to be heard behind the door before) or jumping down an abyss and literally start flying away. All of those let me control the dream but also eventually wake me up. And i found out just by trial and error when i had one of my luckily very few actual nightmares in my life, i was very young and wanted to actually escape the nightmare.
I remember buying S.C.I.E.N.C.E. at Walmart in 97. I was like the first kid in my High school to bring Incubus to everyone's attention and that CD got passed around and ripped so much! Then make yourself came out my senior year, such an amazing time in music and pop culture in general!
Tremendous interview. /Brandon is definitely on my short list of favorite singers. His voice and style is just interesting. There's a sort of technical playfulness to it. I always appreciated how he was somewhat unique to his era in that he still had the same power and emotion in his style like the other big names of that period, but where many had more of a gritty, distortion-like vocal style, Brandon has more of a clean, crisp rhythmic drive to his vocal style. It has the same elements that I loved about that whole musical period but his approach to those ends is rather unique.
Brandon is my favorite artist - solo and along with Incubus, and he's frequently amazing me with his deep answers for deep and meaningful questions as well. The interviewer is also such a nice woman, I laughed out loud with these both. 😂 Great interview!!!
One of my favorite artists! He has a beautiful mind, spirit and soul - true to his uniqueness! His mom embraced that and encouraged him in such a brilliant way. He was so fortunate to have that support!
I love that rage against the machine was his best show. I agree! I was lucky enough to see them in 97 and still my favorite show and I have seen Incubus, still much love
I saw primus is 91 at this small club here in Cleveland. The place probably held a few hundred tops and I wouldn’t doubt if there were close to a 1000 people in there. The floor supports gave way and causes enough structural damage that the club had to close down.
But they did though, they still sell out concerts all over the world, and it's better they are not "main stream" because if you know, you know! They are THE most talented people ever and I'm glad they are not all over the place, because we appreciate them all that bit more and it makes it much more special, intimate and you can appreciate them that little bit more., but those who do follow, which is just enough, will always adore them. There's also those peoples children who are now attending concerts and they are the next generation of incubus fans. You don't get that with any other band I can think of.
@@russellward4624 The hall of fame is redundant to musicians of this caliber. It’s what makes these artists much more loved over longer periods of time. You’ll notice a trend with pop artists, they shine big but burn out rather quickly. When artists like this resonate on a much deeper level with people. Ultimately, finding themselves more widely adored, and remembered longer than a pop artist who shined much brighter momentarily, but have flickered away decades ago.
Speaking of drum 'n' bass, the song "Nowhere Fast" on Make Yourself is a great example of that. That was my favourite song on the album for a long time. Make Yourself had this aquatic sound that I just hadn't heard anywhere else at the time. I was listening to Metallica religiously in my mid-teens and Incubus was quite the breath of fresh air. Damn I'm so late to this interview!!! >_
I moved as a teenager from my homecountry Venezuela to Miami, did middleschool and highschool and Incubus became my favorite band, and Brandon was a huge influence and role model, its so nice to hear from him again now in the present, such a smart and cool guy, loved the interview, thanks for all the music Incubus and Brandon :)
That show was RHCP, Smashing Pumpkins & Nirvana. Nirvana got kicked off the tour and replaced by Pearl Jam. I saw the tour with PJ. 1991. Unreal. I have 4 years on Brandon but he and I lived the same concert life. That gives me peace.
Suuuuuuuuuuuch a GREAT interview 😍 completely satisfied what I was craving in this moment, 2021 ending (enough said) In the depths of battling Late Stage Chronic Lyme Disease with “pocketknife” on constant repeat. From a BBoyd lifelong admirer…Thank you!
SUCH a good interview! Great chemistry and insightful questions. You have a great ability to make your interviews feel like a conversation with an old friend... which is awesome because artists like Brandon have spoken to people more through music than many people's friends. Killing it 🤘❤🎵
First of all: thanks for the Content guide, that really really helps. Second, great interview. Some new insights on topics that are asked about all the time, that's an achievement!
I was at that RHCP, Nirvana and Pearl Jam show in L.A….it was at the Sports Arena. I must have seen RATM around the same time. I saw them right down the street from at the Palladium
This was an amazing interview! My high school was obsessed with make yourself when that dropped. Side note: It's surreal how much Brandon Boyd looks like Mark Holcomb and Steve Vai...
I love how passionate and deep into the music scene you are knowledgability wise, it really shows when you connect with the artists. Thank you for bringing these great interviews to life.
I have waking dreams from time-to-time. I was working on my house one day and sat on a floor joist, started to rest a little then the landscape changed. Now, I’m sitting on a desert plain and I’m looking out at the heat mirages. From them, a white rectangle appeared followed by a leopard walking around from behind it. It walked to the center of the rectangle, and rested in the same pose I was in. We stared at each other for a while then I was back the normal landscape. I’ve kept something of a journal for them perhaps to use creatively.
I went to ozz fest when Page and Plant played maybe incubus to so long ago can't quite remember but if I had a time machine I'd go back to that night 🎸🎸
yes, morning view was after make yourself came out in 1999 and morning view came out in 2001. I remember seeing them after make yourself but before morning view. i THINK it was with with taproot, onesidezero, and Deftones. I think. I could be mixing up two different concerts.

Incubus been my favorite band since 97
I grew up with Incubus and later discovered Alice in Chains who are now my favorite band of all time. So cool to hear Brandon reminisce about them
I remember buying S.C.I.E.N.C.E. at Walmart in 97. I was like the first kid in my High school to bring Incubus to everyone's attention and that CD got passed around and ripped so much! Then make yourself came out my senior year, such an amazing time in music and pop culture in general!

He's so precious 🥰
man , she asked the greatest questions I've maybe ever seen, very cool " unabrasive " I guess, questions he wants to answer , it seems to me...
Classy man, is aging very gracefully. Kudos to the interviewer too, very smart, funny and respectful!
"You like to take your shirt off, be the singer" is the best line I've ever heard. Lol sums up a singer to a T.

Listing off all the bands that shaped my musical tastes at that age, too. Ugh, the music of the 90s when I was a teen was amazing.
Seriously - as he was listing bands off I was like "yep, yep, yep, double yep." That was a very special time for music!
brandon is a goat. so chill for someone who changed the game.
He has always been a great guy.
I love that rage against the machine was his best show. I agree! I was lucky enough to see them in 97 and still my favorite show and I have seen Incubus, still much love
I saw rage against the machine at some college campus in Arizona for Some Socialism benefit. It was amazing
@@stuartewoldt1513socialism and raging against machines don't really go hand in hand.
Pretty cool they played at ur school though
13:23 when he said he wanted to be that in 1991 , he was probably watching Mr. Bungle or Faith no more , Boyd's singing style resembles Mike patton
Interesting....I don't hear any similarities between them and Faith Angel Dust blew my mind when i was 16
A member of Mr bungle just killed someone
I hope that Incubus comes to the Pacific Northwest soon, I've been dying to see them live 😸 Brandon has always been somebody I've looked up to.
Wow. Seeing Incubus and Primus at the turn of the century. Wish I could've been there, sounds like a night you would never forget.
I saw primus is 91 at this small club here in Cleveland. The place probably held a few hundred tops and I wouldn’t doubt if there were close to a 1000 people in there. The floor supports gave way and causes enough structural damage that the club had to close down.
I saw their tour with korn and a few months later with system of a down. They were both opening for someone I've forgotten maybe fear factory
Incubus didnt get all the credit they deserved because they came out at the same time as soo many other bands and singers.
But they did though, they still sell out concerts all over the world, and it's better they are not "main stream" because if you know, you know! That very song has been in my head all day. Listened to the album this morning
I've seen Incubus live quite a few times one of my favourite bands amazing times 🎸🎸
WOW!!!! Did not expect Brandon to place Ustaad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan up there... WOW!!!! Strange cool feeling!

that's a very entertaining interview!! wooo Hooo!!!
I love when an interview starts from square one and digs so deep down into the history of these artists. Another incredible conversation!!!
Ha de ser increíble tomarse un café y platicar con Brandon de música y de arte .
Mad props to Brandon to giving some love to Ms.Ani DiFranco!
Was singing Incubus songs in my head throughout interview . You can hear the unique tamber of his voice without the songs playing.
The singer he was talking about in the Mt Rushmore segment is Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Brilliant devotional singer :)
Great questions, and great answers. Love the dream talk

Really good interview, had that man thinking. Had my mind blown away.
amazing interview! thanks for that
Drive will forever be my favorite Incubus track💯 Great interview! Cheers everyone
Excellent, new questions! She let him talk too...It gets so old seeing interviewers talking all over their guests but not here!

Great interview, thank you so much!
Thank you for doing the labeled time stamps in the description. Million likes to that
Forgot to mention has done chidren's books (which I love), and body art for a while.
I can definitely hear that old Primus influence on Incubus's early works like Fungus Amongus and S.C.I.E.N.C.E.
