    4:33 firstly those columns are lightning jars (a form of capacitor) and I'm worried you might be damaging them at least with some homemade wimshurst machines when you do that it blows a capacitor because instead of discharging the capacitor your overcharging the electricity goes through the dielectric and destroy the dielectric which is an essential part of a capacitor

    You can get larger sparks if you try to get the arc from the small ball of the one discharger to the big ball of the other discharger. Furthermore the position of the neutralizer have an effect to the spark-length: are they nearly turned to the vertical line of the machine the voltage is the maximum, the spark will be longer. Are they nearly horizontal, the current is at maximum, but the sparks will be smaller.

    This is creating around 30000 V I guess. Would be interesting to know the energy stored.

    • @WarpedYT
      @WarpedYT  7 лет назад

      +Muck2014 yes I calculated about that .

    • @Muck-qy2oo
      @Muck-qy2oo 7 лет назад +1

      You should be careful with it as you felt a shock through your chest when it touched your hand. I estimated the energy pulse to be around 500 to 1000 mJ which is way beyond the maximum 350 mJ thatare considered harmless. Hrmless only considering long term effects or damage to health and body.

    If you could you should go even a little slower to watch the spark traveling, i know it goes almost at the speed of light but try to do it with really low res but huge fps ;)

    • @WarpedYT
      @WarpedYT  7 лет назад +1

      +Lino Gonçalves nah... Don't work. We tried with the V2512 at 640k fps. The spark actually travels at the speed of light but what we are seeing in the plasma created when the molecules of air vaporize. We will film a variation episode later . Thanks !!

      +Grég Achard well we have filmed a stun gun at 400,000 fps and surprisingly it looks better at a lower frame rate and fine tuning the camera settings. This thing has a longer duration spark vs a stun gun but I'm unsure as to why. Maybe some viewers here can chime in. Thanks for watching !

    • @fzigunov
      @fzigunov 7 лет назад +3

      Although the spark "looks like" it's turning on and off only once, it's actually oscillating (blinking) several times before dying. That's because the circuit has both capacitance and inductance, therefore being an oscillator!
