I have purchased A LOT of knives over the past two years, MANY fixed blades, and not cheap ones. ESEE, TOPS, Beckers. And this guy was one of them. This is such a GREAT blade! A "Go To" in a blade this size. The thing fills the hand, is VERY tough, and works well in all situations, for me. I absolutely LOVE the Cochise!
Thanks for watching.
My family were pioneers in AZ. We have a cabin is Sedona Mts. I Loved Rock Creek Mesa so much I painted it. Nice size knife, I am not a knifezilla fan. People forget primitive flint knives were about 2” and man did everything with a mini-blade.
Great comment. Question do you have a site where your art is posted for folks to view online? I would love to see it.
Great review. I’m thinking about picking one up. Awesome scenery too.
👍🏻👊🏻
awesome video! thanks for the great details and demos!
+BearHart Outdoors your welcome.

Sweet knife and video. I'm definitely going to check that one out. Also, I hope you saw those elk you were looking for. On our trip to Colorado a couple year ago, we drove around for about 2 hours looking for them. We were on our way back to the place we were staying, when we turned this corner and there saw 2 HUGE elks laying about 20 feet from the road. It's was amazing and definitely worth that driving around.
👍🏻👊🏻 Thanks for sharing.
Man you look like you were having fun! Thanks for sharing.
I was! I love exploring new places.
Me too. And that looked like a good area.
Nice look at the knife and beautiful area. I'm with you on the elk.
👍🏻👊🏻
Can we expect an update video soon? I've been interested in this knife pretty heavily as of late. I'd love to see more footage of it.
It's in the cue but not for a few more months.
@@Wingman115 Year now gotta link lol
It's good to get a bit dirty out there in mother nature. Nice knife & great review brother. Take care & keep enjoying the great out of doors. - Marco

As always awesome review, and I think this knife is great. I may pick one up for camping.
👍🏻👊🏻🇺🇸
Best video I've seen about the Cochise, thanks. I'm on the fence between the Cochise and the BOB. I carry a small axe so I'm leaning towards the BOB to save on weight. The Cochise looks awesome though.
Thanks for stopping by.
Which one you buy?
If you ever want to see elk +Wingman115, drive far up the 101 highway north into Humboldt County. You'll find them lounging around the road, and often right in the middle of it! Plus old growth Redwoods. I highly recommend it.
+Patagonicus Your correct! I've seen a herd of them as I was driving down hwy 1 from Oregon.
Hey John, totally agree with you here man. I've had my COCHISE for years now in antique ivory micarta. You get used to the jimping. I also have been going back and looking at older blades....and revolvers. Knife use is somewhat different today. We carried a belt knife, a pocket knife and an axe. It's all good though. We have the golden years of knife making now ! Everybody enloy it !......Thanks for the vids.....PAPA DUKES
+john rossi Old School still rules!
Hands down the best review of this knife. Im sold! Question, can you strike a ferro rod with the pommel end of the knife? It looks 90 degrees to me
There’s no sharp 90 deg spine on this knife. Thanks for watching.
i would love to carry the knofe i live in texas so would the blade size surpass 5 in a half thats the limit
I own the Ivory G10 version....my fav camp blade ever.
It is a nice looking knife.
Looks to me to be a pretty nice knife. you can fix a the spine with a file if its that important. thanks for sharing atb John
+Turtle Bushcraft Your welcome thanks for stopping by.
Good looking knife for sure. Not crazy about their kydex sheaths but I really like their blades.
Thanks for stopping by sir.
Love the knife, hate the jimping. Awesome review sir.
Thanks for checking in.
Still waiting on your 6-12 month update video 😁
maybe I missed it. is that a full flat grind blade?? beautiful country. love the camo look.
+Tony Dowd It has a Saber grind.
Hey @wingman115 ... Let me first apologize for this question since I swore I would never do this. However, you and I seem to have similar tastes in knives so I could think of no one better to ask. I have a Steel Eagle as my main knife. When I buy a knife for my bag or SHTF I want to make sure it lasts. I'm looking to add a smaller profile blade and I love the Cochise design with the finger grooves. I have never seen one in person, nor any of the other knives I'm considering. Considering Cochise, Esee 4, bk16, Tops BOB. I am just curious since you have worked with the Cochise and the Steel Eagle, would you consider the Cochise complimentary to the Steel Eagle or would you go with a BK16 or something else. I really like quality and when I buy something I want to make sure it won't fail me which is what lead me to the Cochise and the others on the list. Would appreciate your feedback since you have specifically used these knives and probably seen or handles the others. Definitely open to other options but would love to hear your thoughts. I don't get to go out as much and use my tools as much as I would like, so it's great to have folks like you providing your thoughts to help guys like me. Stat safe and keep up the good work.
The Cochise is a great knife. I would recommend it.
did you baton anything with it?
+MrK2hoss No I don't like to baton with my blades but with TOPS heat treat it won't be a problem.
ok. thanks brother.
Your welcome.
We have that knife and we love it! That is so true about how the new trend is to beat the crap out of knives and to use them in ways not intended for knives. LOL!
+ThunderMountain Tactical Thanks for stopping by! Hope you folks are doing well.
nice review. subbed.
I like the knife and the sheath. Without a 90 degree spine, I guess I will have to improvise to strike my fero rod. That is what bushcrafters do anyway, they improvise. Don't they? Actually, I would file the spine flat for my fero rod, just like on my Tops BOB. Thanks for showing this great looking knife.
+csh 62 Your welcome thanks for stopping by.
And the Cochise reminds me of my O.K.C. Ranger T.F.I. a little
👍🏻👊🏻
Say Heah John, I really like Top's Styles. Infact I want to steal the Tom Brown Tracker and put it on a Hollow Handle the kind that the treads screwing a treaded hollow handle. I also like IZ and his knife designs the way they feather and are strong splitting kindling. I just pulled the trigger on a knife from Battle Horse, The Attitude, But I'm having it thinned down to 5/32nd" and a High Scandi Grind, I'm also having a slight curve like some of Turley ' s knives are, with that high scandi and his slightly curved knives, I think it will be a good one. I don't have any White Handle Knives, except my White Bone or it even could be a White Buffalo Horn ? Handle, it's in my Himalayan Imports M-43 my smaller version, at 10 X 7m/m it's still a great chopper, Oh, I'm having a Blue Liner also. It's similar to the Cochise in your video, I really like Top's designs, I just wish they would use the 1095 CroVan instead. I do like my Top's Mini Scandi 2.5 which I team up with my Johnson Adventure Potbelly a great combo where the knives really complement eachother. I neck carry the Top's Mini Scandi 2.5 and it's a great little knife. I like the tempering Toshiba uses. But I also like a company with a custom shop. I wish companies would have one, that's why my Fav's is Swamp Rat with their SR101 which is a Busse Technology 52100 Ballbearing Steel and for the money, I think it's the best buy, seriosly, I'm finally getting my RatWeiler which I plan to pair it off with my Rodent Solution, both knives match nicely, because most of my other Rodent ' s have the Lightning Bolt Handle where my RatWeiler has a Seahorse Style which will match my Rodent Solution. Top's and Essee make some awesome knives in the 1095 the way they temper them. I think both Deferentially Temper the blades too. Once I recoup from my most recent knives and a few on my wanna, wanna list, I do like some of the Top knives, like the one I can't think of tge name right away, but it has a pointed tip but not a spear point, It's a large knife with a sawback, I like that one. Anyhow Thanx for sharing the Cochise, I like my Bush Craft Knives in that size. Thanx, John, Great Job and again, Have a Happy Easter for You and Your Family.
+paulie 4x Thank you sir!
John, even though it doesn't look exactly try like my O.K.C. Ranger T.F.I. but it reminds me of it. I'm surprised the Ranger T.F.I. didn't become more popular of a bush craft/survival knife..It's a tough knife almost bomb proof..it's a 1/4" thick and around a 5"+ blade in a full flat but it isn't very deep so there's not that much wood drag, It baton's very good and it's made out of 5160. The initial appearence is very similar to the Cochise. .It's don't know why knives like these don't become more popular. I think 5" isn't very popular. Most go for a 4" blade or they go to 6" and > granted a longer blade spans a logs for firewood better. Like my BK-2 or my Ranger Afghan. Same with the Blackbird SK-5, I have that one too, but it took me a long time to warm up on it, when I found out how good the CM 154 held its edge almost as good as the 1p9t, I started to like it much more and especially on trips where canoes or boats ate involved or simply camping around wster, or if we know it's going to be a rainy trip, I even got a 3 1/2" blade in that steel which I really like it's my orange handle Browning Independence Fix Blade a real good knife that I can neck carry. But yeah, around a 5" blade I don't see that size very lopular. Maybe they should make that size with thinner blades. Even with a 6" blade let's say 3/16th's " thick and a 5", 1/4" thick, I would rather go with the thinner blade. One thing I noticrd, a 5" blade as far as I'm concerned should have a choil, That's what I'm talking about. But, that Cochise is a good looker because I do like that tip style on a knife unless there's a continues trailing tip. I seemed like I'm just chasing my tail, I don't know why 5" blades aren't as popular ?
Tops makes great blades but the jimping looks overly aggressive and I have not found finger grooves that actually fit my hand well. If your lucky you'll some monster Elk this fall Jon.
+shcmoly I will have to make it back there soon.
cool knife ergos thou
A great solid review. As usual. And that spine could be altered in a few minutes with a good bastard file, no problem. ;-)
+Charles Larson Thanks for watching.
what was on your nose!?
+Surago I wiped my face and got ash on it. They had a forest fire up here awhile back.
***** good good, I thought for sure it was like a tick or something. Nasty sumb****es
TOPS fails in not making a sharp knife spine, claiming that with 1095 steel they can't provide that. Which is bullshit. Esee did that on their PR 4 with great success. Recently Mora Garberg Carbon steel showed a very sharp knife spine. Knife manufacturers should focus on use and less on design.
less gymping for sure
haterz reside amongst bushcrafters
suvival
Not sure about the sharpness out of the bag. Tops won't spend the money for a box. I own about a dozen Tops Knives and never as sharp as the Wing man always seems to get. JMHO
As of late all my TOPS have come in a nice box. As for sharp I can honestly say I've never had a issue with it being dull out of the box. All my reviews I use it strait out of the package and no touching up of the knife edge. Sorry to hear you had a less then outstanding experience right out of the box. I do know that TOPS stands behind their products and will make any issue right.
we put a whole race of ppl to the point of damn near extinction, and give a little piece of the land that belonged to them. It's ok though, we name a knife after one of them. lol
Veni, Vidi, Vici. If they want it back, they can quit whining like a bunch of sissies, and come and take it.
+Tactical Butler don't be ignorant
Rewarding success, understanding social evolution, getting behind basic concepts like creative destruction. Yea, I guess it would have been totally OK when the natives pushed buffalos to near extinction, or worse, with their Buffalo jumps, but since whitey did it with his evil, evil guns, we should all feel super bad and wreck our entire culture to "give back the land". The fact that this would make everyone worse off, especially the redskins, we should just totally ignore, because social justice or something.
+Tactical Butler that reply was way better than your previous one lol
Hey it's a knife review not a political agenda being pushed. Give it a rest no one want to hear it.
