I can’t believe you released this video at the perfect moment. Japan wins hands down for value even if the price is slightly more expensive. We only want to stay in Asia from November to March each year and Da Nang is so much better than anywhere we went in Thailand. I could write a blog post comparing the difference on why Thailand is not as good as people think it is.
I personally think Thailand has it's pros and cons. I used to live in Bangkok every winter and the city is one of my favorites still. 15 years ago I fell in love with SE Asia after my first holiday in Thailand. I wouldn't live in Hanoi or Saigon long-term, but Da Nang definitely feels like home by now. It's not perfect, but I gave up on "perfect" and learned to appreciate what I have :)
@@OlgaProGoingPlaces I was shocked how poor Hanoi is compared to Ho Chi Minh. Ho Chi Minh has some hope in the future to become a modern functioning city on par with Bangkok, but Hanoi with its awful city planning has no hope unless they just start again which is completely unfeasible. It’s not like Europe or Russia with organised city planning.
@@ChrisLivingInYork You really want to know why Hanoi city is poor compared to Saigon. Vietnam is a country cursed by wars for centuries. It should be noted, however, that the mentality of the Nordic populations is that of warriors who only think about waging war and despoiling other people's lands. South Vietnam is inhabited by a more peaceful pagan people. Instead of thinking about waging war all the time, they focus their efforts on building and building, which is not the case for the Northerners who devoted their budget to the war effort against South Vietnam particularly in 1940 to 1975. This is why Saigon has more high-rise buildings. instead of small dilapidated houses in the North. As an unfortunate consequence, Democratic South Vietnam lost the war against communist North Vietnam and with it the tragedy of the thousands of boat people perished in the South China Sea in the 1980s.
Olga, I love your videos. They filled with so much information. Thanks for showing each product and prices in the Supermarket The comparisons to prices where we live are convincing. I need to move to Vietnam ASAP. Cost of living in my country is “HORRIFIC” I can’t wait to visit Vietnam. Love and Abundance be yours.
Thank you for your time and posting. I'll be checking out Vietnam in November, I may retire there if all works out. My number one requirement is very nice people. Thank you again.
For having travelled all over the world, I can say that whenever I got food poisoning, it was from a restaurant, and not from a market stall. And I think I know why: in the market the food is freshly made every morning from freshly bought produce. So its not very fair to say that market food is less hygienic than a restaurant. In a restaurant the hygiene can be lacking, the food stored too long in the fridges and get contaminated.
Yes, there are risks in restaurants as well. I usually try to avoid ones that look empty :) And the last time I had food poisoning I was eating at home all day. You never know 😭
@@kevinm-fr4wl mine wasn’t very serious and I was ok after a day. But it really depends, some people get very sick. Overall I hear about people getting food poisoning in Vietnam much less, then, say, in India.
Never been in Vietnam. I am really considering it. I normally do European tours often. I have visited Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo, Kyla Lumpur, Phuket so far in Asia. Next up in Asia definitely will be Vietnam.

I've watched some of your videos sharing about life and living costs in Vietnam and also read quite a few comments from foreigners. Many comments praise, many criticize the increasing living costs in Vietnam as well as issues of environment, traffic, food hygiene and safety. In my opinion, such a comparison is quite unfair to Vietnam because our country is only a developing country and cannot be compared with developed countries in Europe, America or your homeland. When you choose a country with lower standards than yours to live long-term, you have to accept the bad things about that country but in return with a low or moderate budget you will have a good quality life, freedom, comfort and freedom from the pressure of living costs compared to the homeland. The rising cost of living in Vietnam or any country in the world is obviously normal because the world economy in general is going through a period of recession and inflation, so prices are increasing steadily. Surely the price will never be lower or equal to the price ten or twenty years ago, you have to accept that. Instead, we must find ways to earn more monthly and yearly income to make our lives more stable. We cannot have a better quality and more stable life with just $1000 per month for the next 10 or 20 years without our income increasing. I am very happy that many foreigners choose Vietnam to live long term. I hope everyone will have a happy and joyful life in Vietnam.
I agree with what you say. We can't expect things to be perfect when people in Vietnam have been through so much in the last centuries. I personally think it's amazing how resilient people are and how much progress is there in the recent years. Some of my friends who know nothing about modern Vietnam are amazed to see what Da Nang is.
There is a huge economic shift going on in the world and eventually ASEAN countries will be more expensive to live than in EU... the economies are rising in GDP faster than the west and more consistently.. am headed to SGN in 3 weeks and can't wait.. might pop up to Danang so maybe see ya around!
Banh mi Ba Dao egg is also my almost every day breakfast. But since I am not all that social in the morning, ordering via Grab! Saw your video on Nha Trang. Which city do you like more? DN or NT?
Here I talked about monthly budget, it is approximately the same now Cost of living Da Nang Vietnam | Apartment tour, bike rental, food ruclips.net/video/5r3XmDCnHDM/видео.html
Based on your experience what would you suggest for a first time traveler heading to da nang for three months, would you rent apartment from airbnb for say a month then go look for better or cheaper apartment once there or book through airbnb say rent for two weeks and walk round looking for apartments to rent for longer period.. Would you get better deal by renting once out there then going through airbnb
I have been to Vietnam many times. I always seem to want to use the bathroom and end up back at my hotel using it. I’ve seen one too many horrid ones! I have never seen public toilets, are there any there? For instance, what about at the Supermarket, are there public restrooms there? That’s one thing I think Vietnam needs to improve for tourists, clean free public amenities. Can you tell us if there are?
Thank you! Check out this video for more details ruclips.net/video/juwBA0jLpy0/видео.html We often found apartments by walking around. In the guide I recommend Top5 and have many more pinned on the map 👉 olgapronkina.com/danang
My main concern is public restrooms cleaniness. I don't know if I can handle a hole on the ground that I have to squat and stinky smell that makes me sick.
Public restrooms on the beach in Da Nang are not a hole in the ground and they smell like you would expect from a public WC in most countries:) In shopping malls they are quite good and clean, well maintained. As well as in coffee shops and restaurants.
13:47 in your experience, and knowing how cheap food is in Vietnam do you think it’s cheaper to eat out or buy things to cook at home? I think it’s cheaper to cook out especially if only single or two people. Bigger families will benefit more from cooking large quantities at home. Thoughts?
Eating local food in a simple place on the side of the road is the cheapest option. If you want a nice restaurant, or Western food, cooking is cheaper for us.
You make a powerful argument for Danang, but could you discuss how expats from the West handle the high heat and humidity? How does it compare say to Miami, Houston or Central America with regard to heat and humidity??? And how does Danang compare to Dalat or Siem Reap or Koh Samui? And to Nha Trang?
SE Asia overall is all about humidity, but Da Nang and Vietnam overall is one of the places where it’s easier to handle for me. If you’re considering relocating, you can benefit from joining our Da Nang whatsapp chat that comes with a guide. I made It very affordable so it’s worth it even if you’re not sure if you want to come yet. There you can ask me questions specific to your situation, that I didn’t cover in the video :) olgapronkina.com/danang
@@OlgaProGoingPlaces Thanks Olga. At this point I am trying to get a fuller picture. When people are over 60 it's not all that appealing to think of traveling so far to a part of the world with the cultural differences PLUS the issue of the climate. Unless it were a Plan C just to get away from the crazy Woke situation in the US and Canada!
How is the overall infrastructure of electricity, plumbing, water, sewage system, Internet, etc. compared to the West? Blackouts? Walkability and roads?
@@HoangLe-ht5fo Great, and the other infrastructure I mentioned? The two spots I am most interested in are Da Lat and Da Nang because I can't imagine living in high humidity, noise, high buildings, congestion, etc. of the big cities!
@@dovygoodguy1296 other infrastructures are also okay if you live in the big city as Da Nang and Dalat, but keep in mind that no where is perfect. The whether in Da Nang is almost humid around the year and storm sometimes and cold in the winter. In the opposite, Da Lat is cool all months and it rains a lot in rainy season. Both city are beautiful but Da Nang is developer, when you live in Da Nang you can travel to other tourist hot spots like Hoi An, Hue... Da Lat is the city of flower and located in the central highland, it's a romantic and safe city, if you are single, you would feel lonely mate.
@@Keyonvu2609 I'm married and in my 60s. I have some difficulty contemplating traveling half way around the world with so many challenges , especially if it's like living in a sauna!
@@dovygoodguy1296 If you don't want to live in a sauna, then you might like Da Lat better as it's in higher altitude. Of course that means it's colder there and no beach. But there's a ton of stuff to do in Da Lat. Internet is great all over Vietnam. Many Westerners mentioned over the years that they get better Internet there than in the US (even in the remote mountain regions of Vietnam). Infrastructure won't be as great as in the US, but Da Nang is modern so it's better than the bigger and older cities. Lots of digital nomads used to live in Da Nang before covid (then they forced to leave as they were basically working there but weren't paying taxes). Noise...that's gonna be all over Vietnam. It's not a quiet country. Same for congestion unless you move to a much smaller town.
Cheap foods that sound good, but will the foods safe for your body?. A lot of foods are not safe in Vietnam. A lot most of foods are related with a lot of chemicals that will harm your body, not including your stomach, diarrhea often happens to me when I travel in Vietnam. My suggestion brings some anti diarrhea medicine.
During a year in Vietnam I didn’t have a serious food poisoning yet. Although being careful with food can be a good recommendation for traveling in all SE Asian countries. Out of the countries I’ve been to I think food safety in touristy beach cities in Vietnam is similar to Thailand/Malaysia and better than in the Philippines. I haven’t been in rural Vietnam, so can’t say how it’s there.
My advice is only eat seafood at ocean towns so you can be assured it hasn't been heated by sun, refrozen etc etc I have only been sick eating seafood in Dalat, P.leiku, Hanoi and Saigon

There's 100 million people in VN and most of them make very little money. So the country will always be cheap. Saigon now you can find very expensive everything, and you can find very cheap everything. That isn't going to change. It's simple socioeconomics

I doubt the hygiene up to par. The reason is the lack of clean water. The temperature is hot. So raw meat or raw fish spoils very fast. It’s great to enjoy the beach. But the water ‘s not clean in some areas. It’s a good idea to bring medication for diarrhea and update all immunization shots.
Up to par with what? I lived in Asia 20 years, was more sick in USA and Sweden Raw meat isn't left out to spoil, do you think the people who live there are less intelligent than people in your country?
Since a lot of your viewers, like me, are NOT from USA I appreciate if you can please mention VND prices so we can convert to our own currency. I notice you do mostly but sometimes you revert to only USD. Thank you for the video. I loved Danang and would live there too!
thanks for the feedback 🙏I do understand that most of the viewers are not from US :) And I agree that prices in VND should be mentioned too. but if I’m completely honest doing voice overs and editing all by myself is very time consuming, I worked all week and sacrificed my weekend to finish this one and worked till 8pm on Sunday 😭 As soon as I can afford to hire an editor, I promise the quality of editing will be better with conversions and prices in both currencies on the screen. For now I decided that USD is the currency most of the people know the value of. And sometimes I just forget to mention VND, and there is no time to record it all over again or put every price on the screen. I hope you understand 🤗 You can help me get closer to hiring an editor here, I would appreciate it www.buymeacoffee.com/olgapro
The problem with food in VN is the quality of ingrediants. Sugar, MSG and people should ask how it is possible to buy a steak for 60k vnd, VN doesn't have stringent food laws like Europe, so you are essentially eating dog food. Obviously more reputable places use better ingrediants.

Cám ơn bạn..Tôi chưa đi thái land..nhưng nghe mọi người đánh giá tốt hơn việt nam...tôi muôn nghe ý kiến của bạn..
Japan? Really? Lived there for years. It is definitely not bang for buck. Japan is as expensive as usa. Not even comparable to Thailand or Vietnam.
Great video. Thank you for all the hard work Olga.
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching
I really enjoyed your video.😊 Very detailed. Thank you. 🙏
Heading to Da Nang in a few months...excellent video and very informative! Thank you very much!
Glad it was helpful. Have a great trip!
When do you go to DA Nang?
Olga, I love your videos. They filled with so much information. Thanks for showing each product and prices
in the Supermarket
The comparisons to prices where we live are convincing. I need to move to Vietnam ASAP. Cost of living in my country is “HORRIFIC” I can’t wait to visit Vietnam.
Love and Abundance be yours.
Great detailed Information
Thank you for your time and posting. I'll be checking out Vietnam in November, I may retire there if all works out. My number one requirement is very nice people. Thank you again.
You are welcome! I hope everything works out. I hear Vietnamese government is considering a retirement Visa for foreigners.

I love these videos when they give the price.👍
Great video, thank you for sharing ❤
For having travelled all over the world, I can say that whenever I got food poisoning, it was from a restaurant, and not from a market stall. And I think I know why: in the market the food is freshly made every morning from freshly bought produce. So its not very fair to say that market food is less hygienic than a restaurant. In a restaurant the hygiene can be lacking, the food stored too long in the fridges and get contaminated.
Yes, there are risks in restaurants as well. I usually try to avoid ones that look empty :) And the last time I had food poisoning I was eating at home all day. You never know 😭
@@OlgaProGoingPlaces Was your food poisoning like sitting on toilet and being sick or was it more serious like going to hospital..sorry to ask ?
@@kevinm-fr4wl mine wasn’t very serious and I was ok after a day. But it really depends, some people get very sick. Overall I hear about people getting food poisoning in Vietnam much less, then, say, in India.
@@OlgaProGoingPlaces thanks for replying ..great video btw just subscribed
Hi.
Love your video. Very informative. Just booked my flights ✈️. But im undecided between Nha Trang and DaNang
$10 meat plate is amazing 😮
same here in Thailand as well as in The Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia the prices condos now are in skyrocketing.
Never been in Vietnam. I am really considering it. I normally do European tours often. I have visited Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo, Kyla Lumpur, Phuket so far in Asia. Next up in Asia definitely will be Vietnam.
Fabulous travel vlog. Great work Olga and friend.
I so Like watching your videos! Just honest content. Keep going! I like watching your videos
Maybe you could some apartments viewings too and show some prices ?
Just a idea, would like to see such content too ☺️
Thank you! I show many apartments that we saw and lived in some of them in this video, with average prices. Or you mean like a full apartment tour?
Very Informative
It's the same in Mexico City and Costa Rica. Eating out in Costa Rica is crazy expensive but housing is affordable.
Hello Olga, I am newly retired and making plans to go to the Da Nang area around September. I tried to buy the Da Nang Vietnam Travel Guide 2024 + Q&A Chat Access, but it got stuck in a loop and it did not process. Are you still offering it along with the 1 on 1 consultation?
Hi Woody. Maybe there was a technical error, can you try again? Sometimes vpn, or an adblocker, or your browser privacy setting can block a payment window too.
olgapronkina.com/danang
Yes, there are 4 guides left at the current price, and after you buy the guide you get access to a chat (with me and others who bought the guide) and a 50% discount code for 1-1 consultation
For a couple, you need about 1000 usd per month included accomodation for quite comfortable living.
without traveling/visa expenses, modest apartment, 1000 could be doable for sure!
There is a huge economic shift going on in the world and eventually ASEAN countries will be more expensive to live than in EU... the economies are rising in GDP faster than the west and more consistently.. am headed to SGN in 3 weeks and can't wait.. might pop up to Danang so maybe see ya around!
Love these videos. Mainly because it is a no Brainer. Inflationary monetary systems will do this.
Thank you for sharing nice vedio
Banh mi Ba Dao egg is also my almost every day breakfast. But since I am not all that social in the morning, ordering via Grab!
Saw your video on Nha Trang. Which city do you like more? DN or NT?
We loved Nha Trang, but found living in Da Nang easier. I plan to do a comparison video i the future.

OMG ! Good . ❤
Based on your experience what would you suggest for a first time traveler heading to da nang for three months, would you rent apartment from airbnb for say a month then go look for better or cheaper apartment once there or book through airbnb say rent for two weeks and walk round looking for apartments to rent for longer period..
Would you get better deal by renting once out there then going through airbnb

make sure you go to the night market in Ho Ami

I have been to Vietnam many times. I always seem to want to use the bathroom and end up back at my hotel using it. I’ve seen one too many horrid ones! I have never seen public toilets, are there any there? For instance, what about at the Supermarket, are there public restrooms there?
That’s one thing I think Vietnam needs to improve for tourists, clean free public amenities. Can you tell us if there are?
There are public toilets in Da Nang on the beach and in Malls. They are decent. Not pristine, but pretty ok for public toilets
Going to coffee shop (everywhere) for 2$ and use their toilet (every coffee shop has for their customers)
Please provide names of each place in the next video. Thank you.
Hi! You can find recommendations where to eat/shop/bars, including places shown in this video, and much more here 👉 olgapronkina.com/da-nang-vietnam/
Great video! Can I ask how you find those 300 USD per month apartments? Do they include utilities and Wifi? Thanks

We often found apartments by walking around. In the guide I recommend Top5 and have many more pinned on the map 👉 olgapronkina.com/danang
Who work online is best place ever. As local if have change work online I also want to move here.
@@OlgaProGoingPlaces Wow. So glad to hear that. 🙏💜💙💚💛🧡❤️

Have you considered living in Albania for a few months? 😊
I actually did! Tirana, Albania. Daily life, our first 1.5 months in the city (February-March)

If it comes to weather I would say that Da Nang had a lot less humidity than the places you mentioned, plus a very welcomed breeze
You have to leave the country every three months to get an updated visa.
How about black coffee with sugar only.
In your profile, you indicated that you were hoping to eventually find a country to settle in. Are you close to finding that country? Is it VN?
For the last year our homebase was Da Nang. We’re not completely sure for how long we will eventually stay, but for now we love it in Vietnam.

How are the mosquitos in the warmer months?
In the house we don’t have problems, but if I go out and spend time sitting outside, I use mosquito spray.
When are the best months to be in Da Nang?

Can you recommend a good place to buy good fake sneakers in Da Nang? Thank you in advance.
Local markets sometimes have fake brand clothes & shoes, but I don’t know about the quality
How is the overall infrastructure of electricity, plumbing, water, sewage system, Internet, etc. compared to the West? Blackouts? Walkability and roads?
Vietnam has caught up with Western standard. Internet service excellent 👍🏻
Tourists just like companies take advantage of cheap labour and costs.
Please come to Northeast Asia , we have China Japan South korea and Taiwan , you will love it !

It's natural for a country to transition from being poor to rich and vice versa.
There's 100 million people in VN and most of them make very little money. So the country will always be cheap. Saigon now you can find very expensive everything, and you can find very cheap everything. That isn't going to change. It's simple socioeconomics

thanks for the feedback 🙏I do understand that most of the viewers are not from US :) And I agree that prices in VND should be mentioned too. but if I’m completely honest doing voice overs and editing all by myself is very time consuming, I worked all week and sacrificed my weekend to finish this one and worked till 8pm on Sunday 😭
As soon as I can afford to hire an editor, I promise the quality of editing will be better with conversions and prices in both currencies on the screen. The problem with food in VN is the quality of ingrediants. Sugar, MSG and people should ask how it is possible to buy a steak for 60k vnd, VN doesn't have stringent food laws like Europe, so you are essentially eating dog food. Obviously more reputable places use better ingrediants.
its always going to be cheap, except for people who come with $2 in their pocket.
