This song is difficult for his voice, especially the intro. He worked hard to make this beautiful tribute to Andrew, I believe that Ament and Grossard must have been happy.
He might have been better able to sing it 10 years before this show, but I don't think he (and maybe Stone & Jeff) was emotionally ready, Eddie in the sense of "getting" Andy's legacy, Stone and Jeff in the sense of having lost so much when he died.

McCreedy, Gossard, and Ament miss Andy a lot and Eddie knows that it's his spot he filled when everyone thought once Andy passed that their careers were over. I've been a MLB fan since about '89. So much so that I named my firstborn after this song. I've seen Pearl Jam in concert more than any other band, but haven't followed them much in more recent years. This is a good version though. I feel like Eddie really put his stamp on it. Gonna share it with my daughter as she's fans of both bands as well.
You ARE aware that Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament were members of Mother Love Bone, right? I think that gives them the right to retain privileges, since, you know, they own the songs. Andrew's death (rest his soul) led to the formation of Pearl Jam.
Eddie met them on the Temple of the Dog album with Chris Cornell , this was the Andrew Wood tribute album , and Mother Love Bone Became Pearl Jam with Eddie then! So yes Pearl Jam is what Mother Love Bone became , they have the musical rights to play all of the catalog. Still never be the same with out Andy!
@@DrakeSpidey jeff and stone were the only members from mother love bone. Jack irons recommended Eddie as vocals when they decided to form a band after Andy's death. Great music never dies, it lives on through others. Music is to be shared. Im pretty sure Andy, like the great musician he was, would want his music to live on. And who would fit better to pass on this musical masterpiece than the band that rose from the ashes of mother love bone? PS. If anyone has the right to play this song it`s Pearl Jam, and they perform it in a great and humble fashion as a tribute to Andy.
Love how Matt was singing along at the beginning of the song before the drums kick in. These guys all have respect for and loved Andrew, and it shows in this performance
Dude you've done such a great job editing this video together. I'm surfing around old stuff while bummed out thinking about Chris, and it led me here. I'm thankful we still have all the guys in PJ and hope nothing but the best for them.
Eddie, working at a club, became friends with a drummer in a band that was performing , Jack Irons. One time few months later, Jack plays A tape of a band that’s looking for a drummer, he declines but mentions to ed they are also looking for a singer, so ed takes the tape of demos, goes off and surfs a bit, and then writes a song called Alive. The rest is history.
those lessons never learned, she's always been given...Times like this must die. He who rides a pony, must one day fall...Listen on..I forever love him.,.
I wonder: ''what would happen if Andy were alive?'' Would Stone and Jeff meet with Eddie someday? Would MLB playing today in any stadium around the world? Maybe yes, or not. So, at the same time, i say ''thanks'' for Wood's sacrifice, what brought us PJ. And i almost kinda cry, because i would love to hear Andy's voice.
As much as I love this song,I don't think MLB were good enough to become successful and eddie would probably be the oldest roadie in san diego. It kinda all fell into place.
Pearl Jam HAS had several charting albums. Idiot. And no, Eddie was given an instrumental tape from Jack Irons of some songs and wrote lyrics to them, and they flew him out to Seattle, from San Diego, where he was already in a band, Bad Radio. Don't speak about shit you aren't well versed in. Pearl Jam has a shit ton of amazing songs, and they are still going since 1990. Grunge was NOT popular when PJ formed either. lol. Smells Like Teen Spirit didn't blow up til late 91/92. Which got the rest of the country and world into the genre. Pearl Jam was already a band for 2 years. lol.

I've seen Pearl Jam in concert more than any other band, but haven't followed them much in more recent years. This is a good version though. I feel like Eddie really put his stamp on it. Gonna share it with my daughter as she's fans of both bands as well.
To anyone who says Eddie can't sing anymore... This is perfect
+Zillaman67 I agree...this was really a great tribute to Andrew.
+Hunter Woods Anyone who says Vedder can't sing anymore needs to have their ears checked. And possibly make an appointment with a psychiatrist.
+Bryan Downey who says that?? I want names!!
Eeddie's voice gets keeping better with his age. it get's warmer and deeper.
richard tuin eddies voice always had such a pleasant sound
You ARE aware that Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament were members of Mother Love Bone, right? I think that gives them the right to retain privileges, since, you know, they own the songs. Andrew's death (rest his soul) led to the formation of Pearl Jam.
Yep
Eddie met them on the Temple of the Dog album with Chris Cornell , this was the Andrew Wood tribute album , and Mother Love Bone Became Pearl Jam with Eddie then! So yes Pearl Jam is what Mother Love Bone became , they have the musical rights to play all of the catalog. Still never be the same with out Andy!
@@DrakeSpidey jeff and stone were the only members from mother love bone. Jack irons recommended Eddie as vocals when they decided to form a band after Andy's death. He was down there to start work as the new band that would become pearl jam. Temple of the dog was chris Cornell's tribute to Andy as chris and Andy were room mates and they invited Eddie to join in the tribute.
Amen
The whole band of PJ are all former members of MotherLoveBone so they Get the right to sing this beautiful song
Ed is an extremely respectful man and a hell of a good musician him and Layne are fabulous and irreplaceable peace out to grunge best era in music👊🎙🎸🥁🎶
Tears streaming down my face.
💙💙💙 So beautiful... So emotional!... Beyond Time...
I'd love to hear Eddie circa '92 singing this.
gmon78 WOW YES
FuckingA
My youngest daughter.. I named her chloe. I took her name from the song. Beautiful beautiful song. I didn't know that it was going to foreshadow what was to happen. My god. This is one of those songs where if I listen to what I end up in tears. I have reasons for that but nothing I really want to share on here. I love watching Pearl jam perform this. That and yellow ledbetter. Speaking of yellow ledbetter.. if you watch them do live performances of that song Mike McCready does different guitar solos every single time. Anyway thank you for reading my rant. Stay safe and God bless.
Beautiful tribute
Beautiful tribute to Andrew Wood Mother Love Bone,, pioneer of Grunge. Much Love, miss them dayz.
Beautiful song, beautiful interpretation
Good job guys! Killer!
Amazing job Eddie, awesome as always. Andy's voice however has a very special place in my heart ❤
God I adore this man, please God continue to protect this legend. He's all we have left 😥
Love you Eddie!!!!
Stunning outstanding performance. Brilliant beyond words. The way they communicate with each other, without words. Moved to the core. Wow times a thousand. This band of beautiful brothers.
And thank you so much for posting this.
2021 and it's still one of my favourite songs from mother love bone.
That's an amazing cover... obviously more of a tribute than a cover. Crazy how things work out. Andrew became huge... just in a different way.
Nice job on the g solo. Love the blues-y feel of it. Nice to see eddies emotion when singing his friends music
Best cover ever. Perfect
Love love it. He did a great job. Andy would love it
WOW so moving ❤
those lessons never learned, she's always been given...Times like this must die. He who rides a pony, must one day fall...Listen on..I forever love him.,.
Beautiful...Ed always serves it up. ❤
I love these guys long time!
I was there that night so grateful it’s been posted so it can live forever
Eddie's voice and vocal patterns
This made me cry. I’m not sure music has ever made me cry.
Just Beautiful. So blessed to have been there.
Brendan d I'm soooo jealous
*I heard this song in the movie Singles. Now it's on my playlist.*
You're remembered Andrew Wood 🎤☄🌟
Hell yeah!
Yes.
Oh my goodness this is so good. This song moves me so much.
Birth of grunge music , this song gives me feeling of being 21 again
i started crying! i got chills as soon as he started singing Andrew's words. We love and miss you L' Andrew.
And i almost kinda cry, because i would love to hear Andy's voice.
srujan00 gay? We got a 5 year old here. Why don't you go listen to beiber I think k he's more treated to your age group.
As much as I love this song,I don't think MLB were good enough to become successful and eddie would probably be the oldest roadie in san diego. It kinda all fell into place.
I think wood would still die. He is one crazy man.
Blaze_razgriz1 fate's strange ways...
Pearl Jam was already a band for 2 years. lol.
