Took this trip a few weeks ago. Watching the moon shining down on isolated homes as we weaved through the Serbian countryside after dark is one of the most amazing experiences I've had. If you take the journey, don't sleep ;)
09:00 from Bar, 10:00 from Podgrodica, 20:07 into Belgrade. Day with my feet up! Connected with 21:50 to Budapest, arriving 06:04, then the 07:10 Railjet will get to to Vienna at 10:12, etc etc...
i was on this trip,beograd-podgorica, when i was in army 94-95 year.... in the end of army service, when i go home, train was so full that i must to stay on my legs whole trip, almost 500 km... but it was easy, because i finished army and returning to home ! :)
Krasan video, hvale vrijedan trud.
Made this trip last month, thanks to your website and videos, and planning many more! Train was stuck at what felt like 20mph for a large part of the way! But with THAT scenery, no complaints at all! When we passed the southbound service, I noticed a new Russian sleeper car attached, new addition maybe! Though, on way into Belgrade, overhead line snapped further ahead, with 4 hour delay, which were spent in bar with Montenegrin guy! Amazing experience, next up is Bucharest-Istanbul sleeper next month! Many thanks and keep up good work!
Done this journey about 40 times. It's takes a long time but I always have fun and love the scenery. The trains are old and the toilets are famous but people love to sit together and have a chat. Great experience.
Thanx for the video. Done this route many times by car & by bike and from down there always wanted to see how it looks like from above - from the train track. The Moraca River Canyon is just gorgeus from up there also ;) Got to travel it by train finally.
I just came back from Balkans...last December ...our journey is fr Malaysia to..Milano, Venice.. crotia.. Bosnia.. Montenegro.. Albania.. Macedonia.. Bulgaria n turkey... very beautiful indeed.
Great video. I'm contemplating on this. Train from Milan to Bari, Italy, then ferry to Dubrovnik, Croatia, then bus to Bar (I live in Barre,VT USA, btw....). (There is a ferry directly to Bar, but it doesn't arrive in time to take this train, so I have to stay over and the bus ride sounds more fun than spending all day in Bar.) Then this 11.5 hr train to Belgrade. After that, a train to Budapest, then via Vienna back to Milan, maybe....
Thanks for sharing your insightful and well filmed video. We film natural sound and sight go pro walks too so it's really good to have others guiding me through a journey I would love one day to go on. I've subscribed and look forward to seeing more.

last year when i was traveling with this train we were passing through the storm cloud when we were really high up in the mountains, it was pretty scary.
It was one of the biggest project in former Yugoslavia. It was finished in middle of 60´s. The trip from Bar - Belgrade have over 400 bridges and over 2000 tunnels. During the building of this road 104 workers missed their lifes. I would recommend to take plane to Belgrade, stay their over weekend, great night life and shopping and then take train to Montenegro. But remember the train are same from 60´s, its old, forget luxury and wifi, it dont exists.
Sir you have been to so many countries and traversed so many routes. Would you please share top 5 of your favorite routes. Someday I will follow you. Thankyou
Thanks top class. I will be doing this trip in March. Any tips? What did you think of the rolling stock? Can you buy tickets on the day? Good places to stop off. Cheers David
I have traveled this railway several times, the areas south of Valjevo all the way to the sea are amazing. I'm sorry for thhorse, I don't believe it happened. The owner did not take good care of him.
Good thing Serbia is at the moment in preparation for upgrade of this rail line, Russian state railway company (same that is working on Belgrade-Novi Sad high-speed line) is already working on the project and work should begin in 2021, they already finished upgrade recently of the first 77 km from Belgrade to Valjevo on this Bar-Belgrade line. At the moment rest of the line from Valjevo to Podgorica is in catastrophic state, most of it running under 50 km/h.
Hi everyone there, i ve heard the. ticket can only be bought at the station. could someone help with me that if the train still goes from bar/kotor to belgrade?and there are 2 different choices: high speed without sleeping cabin and the old slow one with sleeping bed, right?
There is a daytime train and a night train with sleeping accommodation. The daytime train only runs June-September. Tickets can only be bought at the station. If you want to travel to Kotor, you will have to take a bus from Podgorica or Bar. I wouldn't count on a same day connection.
Nice video, very helpful your web site is, I have visited your web site thousand times, 1st time I found out your youtube video. Anyway can Ii buy ticket for belgrade to podgorica in advance online, I am from UK

@@anckO. Tram 3 normally runs between Topcider and the City centre but it wasn't running in May when I was there in May. Not sure if its going again now. You should be able to get a bus instead.
@@SunnyFLBoy Mark's website suggests tram 3 is running again now. I didn't have this exact problem as I travelled from Topcider to Montenegro. When I visited to buy tickets the day before travel a bus luckily appeared just outside the station which took me into town. No idea how late it runs or indeed if that was some kind of tram replacement service. Getting a taxi to Topcider is cheap and easy but going the other way might be trickier. There's very few trains that stop there and its in a leafy area of parkland with not much going on so there's no taxi rank. If all else fails I'm sure there will be fellow passengers alighting there who you could follow to a bus stop or even jump in a taxi with. Enjoy the epic journey!
For the first time this year I was in Budva and I will tell you honestly, without insults. If you want tourists in the future, keep a little more culture. The highlight was the disgrace of the primitive attitude of one of your fiancée landlady to a local, who behaved impudently with certain guests which I thought they did not have a lot of money.I think that the Serbs were the guests anyway, but that night I was horrified and I told myself "here you will not see me again." I did not know that the Montenegrins are so insolent and unkind. They smile to you on the first day only when you need to give them the money for the apartment, and on the second day you realize that they are ordinary euros for them! They have no human relationship to make you feel pleasant and beautiful and the beaches are a disaster. what he did during communism that's all. Zero for Monte Negro!
